Trigun

As hard as it is to believe, I have never seen even a single episode of Trigun. What is it about?
Since a lot of you like it and call it good anime, I'm going to assume that it doesn't include anything objectionable. Not that that would stop me from seeing it, but I digress.
So...what do you think of Trigun? Should I see it? Why is it so popular?

Ok thanks. I would still like to hear what everyone has to say about the series though.

Oh yes, objectionable content: There is some, but not too much.
The language is not THAT bad (mostly PG to PG-13 material) but it's there. The characters aren't dropping F bombs or anything like that (at least, not in the official translation, in fansubs, all bets are off), but there's a fair smattering of milder bad language, usually coming from Wolfwood or Vash.
As for sex content, there's no *explicit* content, but there is fanservice in episode 6 (Elizabeth is so exaggerated one would think the writers were parodying fanservice), there's several innuendo scenes (i.e. much of episode 6 where Vash is immediately smitten with Elizabeth, and episode 15 where there's the infamous "I could have. . .five times" bit between Vash and Dominique in their battle-Vash is a perv.) There is also a scene in episode 23 where it's heavily implied that Wolfwood and Milly slept together-but you see or hear nothing of it.
Violence is probably the main ground of objection with the series-although it's not really glorified per se and is a major part of the plot, Knives, Legato, the Gung Ho Guns, and random thugs. Characters do get hurt, do die-in fact, by the end of the series, two (and possibly three, depending on how you interpret Knives) of the main characters die. If you're squeamish on violence, avoid Trigun and stay FAR away from the manga.
The religious content is a sticking issue for many people. To avoid spoilers: If you're a strict fundamentalist who puts much stock in symbolism being used absolutely correctly (in which case you're probably not an anime fan anyway), Wolfwood will offend you so much that you'll probably want to write a screaming tirade.
He's a priest, but he carries a paid portable confessional which is the bit of a few jokes, misuses "Christian" terminology, drinks, smokes, uses the most bad language in the series, kills people as a professional assassin, and is implied to have had sex outside of marriage concieving a child. Oh, and his weapon is a giant metal cross that is a rocket launcher, machine gun, and semiautomatic storage rack.)
Nevertheless, if you can see that the "Christian" trappings are just there to establish the character in the story and that he's not an example nor a slap at Christianity, you shouldn't find Wolfwood that much of a problem as to make this anime verboten.
Well, that's the best summary of objectionable content I can provide. . .

I totally agree.
I was just listing all the "bad stuff" so no one could come back later and yell at me.

Seriously, don't buy from ebay, especially if you're going for collector's value or you don't want to take a risk of never getting what you pay for-or getting a bootleg.
If you just want to see the anime whatever way, and you have cable, watch it when it comes back on TV this December. It wasn't edited too badly, you're not supporting bootleggers, and you won't get scammed.
If you definitely want to see the sub or have it for collector's value, then don't mess with ebay-ESPECIALLY if you're at all interested in the latter. Instead, spend a little more money or buy the volumes separately so you can buy from a legitimate retailer rather than a person who could be a legit seller-but who also could be a con artist.
Auction fraud is one of the top five fraud complaints in the US annually (along with identity theft, home and car repair scams, and telemarketer fraud), and
the top Internet-related fraud complaint, topping even spam-related fraud, including the ubiquitous 419 fraud. Simply put, ebay is like a casino-you pay to play, and sometimes the cost is getting ripped off. If you're not willing to accept that as a possibility, avoid ebay.

Tell us what you think when you're done. Personally I liked Trigun quite a bit. I really didn't like it much until Episode 12, when we get Legato involved and the plot gets more serious. Perhaps this is because it's primarily humor based until then, and I really didn't find it funny. I wouldn't say that decreases the quality of the series.

Will do.
I probably won't finish it for a while though, since I have finals next week, and I have to watch Rurouni Kenshin when I get home. But after that, I will watch Trigun and tell you what I think.

Yeah Tet-chan, my favorite character is Legato. Arguably the most evil character in the series, yet very complex (not much is revealed about him in the anime either) and also IMHO
(where's my bouncing smiley?)

Vash forever, woot!
I actually liked it from the first few episodes... I though it was hilarious, then I loved it even more when it got serious. Most viewers I talk to get uncomfortable with the serious/dark tones in the latter half of the series, but it made me love it more.
I have the series on VHS, dubbed. I've never seen it subbed, which makes me a little sad.
Now that I actually have a DVD player though... um... as far as spending my money on anime anytime soon, I really want to see the rest of Haibane Renmei before I buy DVDs of an anime I've already seen several times through... albiet only in dub.
Legato is cool... all the characters are cool in my opinion, but... Vash is my boy...

I liked both ways, for entirely different reasons. I found it very funny myself...but I liked it when the story became very intense, too. To me, without both sides, you can't possibly understand the different facets of Vash's personality.

Trigun was the... 3rd.. anime that I obsessed over- and when I obsess.. omg, I think my friends get temporarily sick of me. x_x
The story line of trigun was awesome.. 4 of 5
The end was sortof disappointing.. great evil dudes
*snatches doll of legato* HE'S ALL MINE! BACK OFF YOU!
I thought vash was REALLY funny- especially in the first episodes- the way that worked out was effective to the series, because you are so attached to Vash- him being all sweet and such.
Character personalities are GREAT..
I would buy it if I had all that insane cash.. but alas, I simply recorded it from Cartoon Network! *free anime!* shh..
whee! all together the whole anime (according to the almighty dirge) gets a 9 of 10!

Ebay has everything, from legit anime to bootlegged anime. You should be able to tell one from the other.
It IS a bootleg if it says Chinese/English subtitles. It MIGHT be a bootleg if is says All Region.
Look at the cover of the dvd in the picture. Compare it to the dvd cover at a reliable anime store such as
http://www.animenation.com If they are different, either the dvd on ebay is a bootleg, a special edition dvd, or a Region 2 import.
Yes, there are LOTS of bootleggers on there, but there are also plenty of honest people selling legit anime. Whenever I go to buy a dvd or something, ebay is always one of my first places to check.
Do your homework, research the dvd, and read everything in the description. If you are still unsure if the dvd is region 1, then just email the guy and ASK. And make sure that you are able to return it if it is not what was in the description.
If you play it right, you will end up getting good deals and find what you're looking for.
Just take your time when shopping. Don't buy on impulse.

Very good adivice. I buy legit anime from ebay all the time. Like OK said, you just have to know what to look for. And the impulse shopping bit is so true. None of this "I wonder if anyone is selling _____ ... oh! someone is! I GOTTA HAVE IT!!" That's not smart ebay form. Anyway, check all the info. If you want bootlegs, you can find them. If you want legit American releases, you can find those too. Most people aren't going to hide the fact that they are selling bootlegs, because many people seek them out.

Why is Legato cool?
Well, for one, he keeps a relatively stoic attitude during the series. I like that. Compared to Vash and most other characters, who spaz periodically. Plus, blue hair is a plus.
Also, his power is relatively original. In a universe where basically everyone has guns and forms of guns, his is... interesting.

ebay is evil.
I got a tablet for 30 bucks "new" and when it finally arrived in two months, it wouldnt work.
Then my mom was trying to get an SP for my bro, it said it was 16 bucks, and it advertised everything about an SP, but as she was ordering, she figured out it was just a web-browser site.
She emailed the seller and told him that he should change his advertising, and he sent us a virus, that ate our whole computer. We had to delete everything and start this computer all over..
EBAY IS THE DEVIL!!!
Legato rules. Send me an IM on aim for a supah sexy pic of him

Yup, I liked Legato as a character a lot better than Knives; the blue hair is cool, he's a snappy dresser, and he has cool mind powers...and he can always find time off for a lunch break... LOL

Whoever said mentioned their old school VHS dubbed tapes, aww yeah! I have mine too, they're getting old too. I should eventually get the DVD's to replace them.
Don't worry Haibane Shadsie I'm a Vash fangirl! Legato creeps me out. All funky and creepy and making people tear their guts out of their stomach with his mind. Um....yeah

are you INSANE?! thats why Legato ish so coolio :3
and his set-back-ness, and his awesome "I'm gonna rule the world and your stupid"-ness, and his loyalty to knives and such.. he has vash's left arm because vash wouldnt be knives' right hand man.. (that took a while to figure out.. anyone else catch that? it was actually really obvious.. but I'm stupid)
I really didnt like Legato until he *coffdiedcoff* then I was like.. awe man.. cause he made the story all neat..
and for Murphy's sake.. let me bring up Midvalley the Hornfreak.. in my opinion, he's not as cool as Legato, but you've got to admit, he's pretty secure about himself when he's walking around with a pink shirt and naming his horn..thing..
Although I'm not putting vash down, he was a tear jerker at the end of the series.. :E haha.. the first episode when he dodges bullets by crawling away XD and then he sits against a rock and goes "(pantpant) so.. hungry.." haha
((hey, this is my 55th post!!! :E))
