I have a friend that doesn't like or understand anime. However, she did watch 3 consecutive episodes of Full Metal Panic with me.

Very similar to what Josie thinks of it now. CB likes Ranma, though, but he didn't like UY ... because of the subtitles. Rrrr.

90% of all people who come in contact of me end up at least liking anime, if not loving! haha.... the last 10% would be a few people here and there and my room mate who does not folw with it.

I haven't had too much success with that. I did get my mom to watch Princess Mononoke with me once. (She likes *some* animation... Disney. About the only "cartoons" that she likes... oh, and "Shrek"... I took her to see "Shrek" and she loved it. I think my mom does see more animation than she would normally just because of me... I can't seem to get her converted over to anime, but I do get her to watch some American animated movies that I love).

I am just beginning, sort of, to anime-corrupt my neices... I lent them Spirited Away, anyway, and they won't let me have my tape back. They're in love with that movie. So am I, but... I just think it's cool that I let them borrow it and my sister's whole family liked it.

I really want to share "The Animatrix" with my sister, but their dvd player broke, and I only have it on DVD... my sister is of the mentality of most Americans that "animation is for kids", so I warned her... I warned her sternly, and repeatedly, and will warn her again that the Animatrix is something for HER to watch, for her and my brother-in-law to watch, and NOT for the kids... in fact, I want to watch it with them when they watch it, or make sure that the kids are off at school or something when she borrows it... I just don't think young children should be in the same room when someone is watching The Animatrix (espeically for "The Second Renaissance" stories... they were my favorites, but defnitely not something for the young). I do want my sister to see The Animatrix, though, because it's really good and because she loves the Matrix movies. I told her of how neat it was, how the (Ren2) stories told about the history of the Matrix, and how there were just interesting shorts... and how wonderful the animation was...

I told a coworker who loves Jazz and Blues - a real music connosueirr... about Cowboy Bebop. He managed to watch one episode on Cartoon Network and actually liked it. I told him that he should watch that just for the music if nothing else, because I knew he'd like the music. Normally, he does NOT like anime. He says that the "big eyes creep him out". He's not a convert yet, but hey... I got him to watch part of an episode of Bebop... I declare a small victory!

I've never tried, but it would depend on the person's objections to anime. For most people, it's probably the feeling that animation is "kids' stuff", so I'd recommend films that I think deserve to be considered serious cinema, things like "Grave of the Fireflies", "Wings of Honneamise", etc.

I converted my mom with I think, Inuyasha or Rurouni Kenshin. She loves it now; but then, she was an easy sell because she's as childish as me. :dizzy: In that I don't mean anime is childish, please no one complain to me about that. :eyebrow: I meant, you have to have an open heart, like a child, to watch anime and enjoy it for what it is.

I've been trying to convert my friend into watching more anime with me...(all she's been watching before that was DBZ...) I've showed her Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Naruto. She likes them okay, it's that she doesn't have time to watch anime. Baaaah....

One of my other friends, if I start mentioning anime, she says that she's gonna kill me. That isn't gonna work...

Another of my friends, I talk about anime and stuff, she thinks it's funny, but never watches it. She did buy a Shonen Jump issue awhile back, though. (because I showed my copy to her, and she liked it... haha...) That's some progress....

I try to show Grave of the Fireflies to all my new friends... It's how I tell if they are human or not...

Grave of the Fireflies, huh?

Does refusing to get all emotional mean they are not human?
;)

Well, I convinced my sister to watch Spirited Away and an episode of Sailor Moon once. She hated Sailor Moon, but somewhat enjoyed Spirited Away. Her two-year-old son (my nephew) actually liked Spirited Away. He likes giant robot stuff, too, because he watched some Patlabor TV with me when I rented the first disc and he's really interested in my Gundam (original series) DVDs. I guess you could say that I'm basically raising him up to be an anime fan. Don't worry, I'll never force it on him or anything.

As for me, I got converted, by some one forcing me to watch...

Rurouni Kenshin, the First OVA (Also called the Battosai OAV). For some reason I liked it

Then I watched the orginonal series, first season, (Subbed of course) and liked it less, then the second season (The season with Aoshi) and thought Aoshi was even an even better warrior than Kenshin.

But to the conversion subject, I converted three people, all with Rurouni Kenshin ;)

You got it! *nods head in approval* You gotta watch anime like a child or you won't enjoy it . . . some people don't seems to get that.
I haven't been able to convert anyone yet, but I actually hadn't really tried. I found it on my own . . .I should try though. There's a girl in my dorm who used to like it, now could care less, so I've been trying with her . . . trying to use Magic Knight Rayearth because she used to watch the anime some and I'm showing her my manga. Also I'm trying to shoe her Ah! My Goddess.
