i'm rather new to anime, though i've been reading manga for a while, and i would like to know the opinions concercing noir. Obviously, true noir chloe likes it, but does anyone else? please say we're not alone in the world!

I've only watched the first few episodes of Noir, but from what i've seen, i really like it. The story is a bit slow paced and mysterious, but that's one of the things thats cool. I also like the animation of the action.

I think there's some bad stuff in there as the anime goes on.

How many episodes are there to Noir? I'm kinda looking forward to a new anime after watching the endings of all the anime I havent finished during the year in the first days of my holiday. How many episodes are there and is it worth buying?

Personally I liked the series a lot. I enjoyed how it focussed on plot an character development rather than action (although there was quite a bit of that too). Also, the animation was quite good.
BTW, there are 7 DVDs comprising about 27 episodes.

Noir is a very good series. I believe it was made by the same group that did .hack//sign, since the animation is very similar and both focus on character development.
As for "rumored" bad things, here's the dish on questionable content.
1) Violence - it is a series about 2 assassins, so there is a lot of killing. They don't show any blood when people get shot though.
2) Language - I don't remember any bad language.
3) Adult content - Some people think that Mirelle/Kirika/Chloe are lesbians. Personally, I think this is juvenile thinking at best. It ruins the entire subplot of Kirika deciding her place in the world.
My 2¢

I think this is a problem with people getting too jaded (I think that's the right term/spelling).
I had a conversation with my (very secular) mother just the other day about this sort of thing... basically it boiled down to the fact that we usually see the worst, so we're starting to assume it without any facts. Case in point where two women living in a house with kids who where taking part in Trading Spaces on TLC. Without any facts I simply assume they are Lesbians (still don't know what the truth is there).
To keep the subject somewhat OT, I have to say that I haven't seen the series, but it looks interesting... but I don't think I'll be able to start collecting them this year, as I'm in the middle of a job-change and won't know what I can afford to buy now.

Obviously, I've seen the entire series. It's one of my all-time favorite series and I have to agree with Tycho's point 3 in his review, that it's really juvenile to write off everyone as a lesbian. It's got great character development and Tycho has the review down solid.
It's a total package of story, music and art which makes it a quality anime.
And, btw, if you like great soundtracks Noir has one of the best out there. You should buy the first OST, which is red.

My Review on Noir
First off, 26 episodes.
AWESOME music, I own all the soundtracks. Yuki Kajiura is one of the best composers, in my opinion (she also did .hack) (and to gloat, I saw her first concert ever at Anime Expo woot!)
There is NOTHING bad in this series, as far was what most Christians are concerned about. No sex, no language, hardly any blood. If I hadn't seen the series straight from Japan before it was even licensed here, I would have thought it was a strongly edited version of the original.
The story does take it's time in developing.
It greatly picks up after the 15th episode.
The only BAD thing I can say about this, is that you have to accept that Kirika and Mireille have the best aim and that everyone else in the world can not even touch them. (Like the Die Hard type of movies where the good guy can kill every bad guy without a scratch)
That's the only bad thing, in my opinion.
This is a series, I would say, that is perfectly suitable for children who are mature enough to understand death. Because, even though there is no violence SHOWN in here, it is implied.

Hmm, yeah I just saw parts of the first episode and I thought it was strange that people were getting shot with no impact wounnds and blood at all. I suppose if it did show all of that it would make it tedious, considering how many people were shot.

I'm halfway through watching the series, but i'm still not used to people being shot and not seeing the impact. Its just like a hot dog without the tomato sauce. Its alright, but its just different from usual.

Southern Sun, I totally agree with you
-------------
I think Noir would have been better if it were an OAV, showing more blood and violence. But I can see since it was for tv it was better to not, so it'd be suitable for all ages. It's kinda what they did for the new Ninja Scroll TV series, in a way.
Maybe it's just me and my sick taste, but I was hoping to see Chloe rip up some guys with her knives

Huh? Don't know if that's a joke or if you're serious.
You do realize he was referring to Ketchup, right?

Yeah... I remember that from being in Sydney... Ketchup was "Tomato Sauce"
So you don't confuse the Americans here, it's called Ketchup here to diferentiate it from spice-free tomato sauce, which is very different... When it's spice free and unprocessed, we call it tomato sauce here... When it's processed and has the spices (read: flavor) it's called either Ketchup or Catsup depending on what part of the US you're in... I think Canada is the same with that, they call it either Ketchup or Catsup too... Saying Tomato sauce conjurs up bad images in our minds... Of course, thinking of Australian tomato sauce conjurs up bad images in my mind... I didn't like the stuff I had, but I don't remember why... I think it was sweet or something...
hehe, sorry I forgot this was a thread abotu Noir, I've never seen it sorry... Sorry for being offtopic...
OK! Back onto Noir!

Thanks to all for their input, it is always good to hear I'm not anomalous. (I know whereof I speak!) Anyway, I love the ending theme to Noir, but to be honest, I usually skip the opening to get to episode faster. ("Hello, my name is Icarus and I'm impatient.") Enough of those, now wheere waaas I... Oh yeah, to modify the review by Tycho, there is a little swearing, mostly contributed by Mirielle.
Also, I have just ordered the fourth volume. Sure, I could've bought it at another store for the same price, but I wish to show solidarity with my sisters employer. Also, if I do this, I hope they won't object to strenuously to my sitting and reading manga/comic books for hours. The point you say? Please, no spoilers in this thread. Pretty please.
thanks.

I agree, Chloe is awesome. I liked the third wallpaper down, which has Chloe in silhouette. Thanks sskg0tt0.
