(I can hear the laughing already ...)
I've seen this anime floating around for a while, but whenever I picked it up, I'd wince, think "this is just too girly girl for me" and put it back.
Well ... I bought the first dvd and watched the first episode last night. I couldn't get over how much I loved it! It was just completely fun!
Obviously, this anime is not for everyone ... but I was wondering if any other brave souls ventured to check this one out.

That's about how I originally felt about Hamtaro. When I first came across it, I thought it seemed more like something little kids would enjoy better; but one day I decided to watch it just because there was nothing else on TV at the time. I actually enjoyed myself and now it's become probably my very favorite cartoon series (not just favorite anime)--good for the young and the young at heart. ^_~
I can't say I've heard of Super Gals!, though it sounds delightfully humorous. I'm glad you enjoyed it, Gypsy. ^_^

I have heard of Super Gals!, and have seen some ads and a poster for it in Newtype USA. What is the basic premise behind it, Gypsy? Is the animation quality very good?

I picked this up last week thinking it might be a good title that my daughter would enjoy. I usually view any series before I show it to my kiddos. I got through the first episode and put it back in it's casing. I am afraid the language was just a little too rough for them. It's a shame that when they are dubbing something like this that they have to go overboard with the speech. Otherwise this would have been a very enjoyable show.
I also picked up "Mao chan: I'll Protect The Peace Of Japan!" Now this is a cute little show that I highly recommend. Very family friendly.

My daughter just had to buy the Super Gals box set when it first came out and she loves it. Her friends come over and watch it. She watches it over and over again - in Japanese. I told her the language of the voice dubs was a little rough; although, she loves the voice actresses of ADV - I think they're the most talented, as well. In fact, I'm pretty easy-going about stuff like that and I really don't mind her watching it in English, because they do a great job, but I sure wish they would have toned down the language.
But, I love the show.
It is so funny. It's just over-the-top weird. The main character, Ran Kotabuki, beats up everyone! She is so mean.
Oh, and I agree with Rev.Doc, Mao Chan is great for kids. The cute little aliens are just so... cute.

Yeah, I'm planning on picking up Mao-Chan at some point in the near future, or at least renting it. My love for all things cute will simply not let me pass it up.

hey, I've read the manga and I enjoy it tremendously! I love all the characters. Many of them are happy-go-lucky, somewhat simple-minded (hey, nothing wrong with being simple minded!) and fun-loving. I think that's the original intention. Granted, it's not realistic but sometimes I need to get away from serious, heavy, mind-boggling topics that evade Anime/manga alot.
Allow me to yak on this one, this series greatly reflects the "Westernization" influence on the younger Japanese generation. Young ones are at the age of 'being cool and popular' and to them, the answer is fashion and glamor. While Ran and her group portray good points, I don't know how realistic that is. Many young girls provide ....ahem, 'service' to older rich men to get money to buy their clothes and accessories. Thank God for this mangaka, she had Ran work hard in legitimate ways instead (part time jobs, dancing contest, running errands for parents etc) to get this money and therefore, produced a manga with girls living in a material/glamor world but not compromising their values (Ex: Gals should have courage and determination! We will not put up with cheating boyfriends and injustice! hehehe). That's why I like this series a lot. This is what I think of the manga so far, and I have no idea about the anime. I recommend it despite the strong glamor/fashion element in it.

I'm sorry, I completely forgot the language factor. Yes, there was quite a bit of swearing in the dub (not the taking Christ's name in vain kind, but a dense amount of "minor" swears), and I apologize if I presented it in the wrong light. You'd think I would know better than that by now ...
Sorry!
