I just heard from my younger sister today that the VA who plays the dub voice of Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist is coming to my city's (Brownsville, TX) Public Library this October for a meet and greet! Wow! And apparently I've been living under a rock as of late, because I had no idea he was a devout Christian who is very famous 'round these here CAA parts. Even more of a reason to get excited!

Anyway, apparently lots of people in her high school are affiliated with a growing "otaku society" here in town that is gearing up to bring anime cons to deep south Texas (aka the Rio Grande Valley). Rumor has it that later this October they plan to have a full-fledged anime con (the first ever down here) at the South Padre Island Convention Center. Pretty neat!

More specific information to come as I can gather it.
