Yeah. I dislike watching/reading anything out of order. It make make sense from a chronological perspective, but it's not the way the writer expects you to encounter the characters, although, to be honest, many of the episodes of Trigun could be watched in any order.

Actually, I think most of Trigun needs to be watched in order; it's pretty chronological in development. Well, the Seeds flashback episode notwithstanding. {g} But I recommend not watching that out of order, either. The story is set up as an unfolding mystery: why is the world this way?

Considering that it's only one season, it's a great payoff-to-effort ratio: covers ground more epicly (is epicly a real word??) than what took Rurouni Kenshin two seasons to do, and with less filler. (Not that I won't always love RK more in some ways, but I think I have to admit Trigun is technically better in other ways.)

The one ep I recommend watching out of order, is.... um.... okay, I forget the title (hey, I don't keep them here at the office {wry g!}) The one after "Vash the Stampede" (which is the partial-recap episode after the series turning point, "Diablo"). So find "Diablo", and count forward two eps past it: that's the one.

I recommend shuffling, because its own contexts are clearly out of synch with the rest of the series. In fact, it seems to lead directly into the ep which introduces Wolfwood; so that would be a good place to watch it. (Though personally I prefer to watch it right before the main plotline really begins kicking in with "Diablo": it's the final semi-non-serious ep.)

"For all shall be salted with fire. Salt is good, but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another." -- Mark 9:49-50 (my candidate for most important overlooked verse in Scripture. {g})

"We must
be strong and brave--
our home
we've got to save!

We must make
the fighting cease,
so Mother Earth
will be at peace!

Through all the fire and the smoke,
we will never give up hope:
if we can win,
the Earth will survive--
we'll keep peace alive!" -- from the English lyrics to the closing theme of _Space Battleship Yamato_

"It _was_ harsh. Mirei didn't have anything that would soften it either." -- the surprisingly astute (I might even call it inspired {s!}) theological conclusion to Marie Brennan's _Doppleganger_ (Warner-Aspect, April 2006)
