Having spoken to some Gundam Kremlinologist friends it sounds like, assuming this information's accurate, AGE is an attempt to grab some of the audience captured by cardgame/toy shows in the last decade.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing -- the best case scenario, IMO, is something like G Gundam. Though I'm not too optimistic.

I see a lot of people (not on this site...yet) getting really worked up over the character designs. Many are dismissing the show out of hand because of assumptions about the content of the show based on nothing more than the character designs. I find this to be a bit silly. One person on another forum complained, "Oh, now they have kids piloting Gundams?" -_- Because Amuro and Camile are full-grown adults, of course.

The "card game audience" theory seems to make sense, but, again, we don't really have any evidence one way or the other. Everyone's suspicions could all end up being spot on...or not. People should just watch the show and see, or, at the very least, wait for some concrete statements about it.

Well, Level 5 is responsible for Professor Layton and Inazuma Eleven, so it probably has a good chance of being decent.

People have a tendency to speculate, and if character designs are all they have to go on, they'll go on them. If you want to say something, you might as well use whatever slim evidence is available. Speculation at this early stage is hardly some kind of terrible crime against critical discourse.

(And yeah, 'kids piloting Gundams' is an odd complaint when Crossbone -- written by Tomino himself! -- had monkeys piloting mobile suits.)

Sure, speculation is going to happen, and it's not an issue at all. I didn't mean to sound like I have a problem with anime theorizing. I was referring to people saying, flat out, that they aren't going to watch the show now because these designs mean that the content of the show will be a certain way. Expressing disappointment about the design is natural if you don't find it aesthetically pleasing, but dismissing the show at this stage seems a tad extreme. Of course, I am assuming that people are going to keep their word about not watching...

I'm feeling way to lazy to browse this whole thing, and there's no review of it here, so I'm asking:

Overall, is Mobile Suite Gundam 00 worth the watch?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: It has it's detractors, but I think most of them will admit that at least the first season was decent. It hasn't been as polarizing as some of the previous series like ZZ or Seed. So, yeah, I can recommend it.

Anyone else think that that seems more Gaogaigar than Gundam (especially the launching and retrieval of the rifle)? Not that this is a bad thing in general, but it feels a bit off for Gundam.

Enter speculation: Maybe they are announcing a second show that'll be all Zeta/VOTOMS gritty, real robot, so they can chase the whole super-robot versus aliens thing in AGE. Two shows running concurrently to act as separate funnels for different creative impulses?

That would be nice, certainly. I'm sort of expecting the second announcement to be something other than an anime, like when we were hyped for 0081 and it turned out to be a PS3 game. But I'm very happy to be proved wrong.

I thought I had talked about this already.

A few years back, the Gundam movies came out on DVD with COMPLETELY redone audio. Apparently Tomino thought the original mix wasn't good enough or something. All the lines were re-recorded, some of the music was missing, the sound effects were all wrong, and I think a few people may have been re-cast. The story is the same, but the audio is fricking annoying to listen to. Imagine if George Lucas replaced some of the musical score with something else, and then made all the actors come in and re-record their lines for the next cash grab he does. It's sort of like that.
