What do you think of the RK DVDs? Anyone have 'em?

I've got the first season, and apparently, the Kyoto Arc is quite violent. It didn't seem all that bad on CN, even if it didn't have the edits. Does anyone else here have the series on DVD? If so, how is the Kyoto Arc and the Jinchuu Arc?

I have all of the dvds. I've watching all of the first two arcs, and I'm almost finished with the final one. The kyoto arc is definitely the most violent of the three, although the violence is not overdone considering the people are fighting with swords, guns, spears, etc. However, the violence isn't too bad, and the story more than makes up for it (Kyoto is the best of the series, in my opinion). I would be more concerned with the emotional power of the Kyoto arc. There are many episodes that have very sad segments, so if you don't like that sort of thing, don't watch. Still, if you like RK, you owe it to yourself to see the Kyoto arc.

Alright, thanks. I've never been affected by sad things. I saw most of the Kyoto Arc on CN. The only thing I was really concerned about was....

[spoiler=Shishio, serious spoiler content in this one!]What happens is that, since Shishio's burns destroyed his sweat glands, he can no longer regulate his body temperature. Therefore, he can only fight or perform vigorous physical activity for 15 minutes before his body temperature becomes dangerously high. In addition to being beaten by Kenshin, Shishio keeps fighting long past this time, so his temperature becomes so high that the fat in his body ignites, comsuming him in flames. It is not gross: he just thrashes around covered in flames. There is no explosion, and you do not see any blood or internal organs.[/spoiler]

Oh, and Gypsy, I have the Wandering Samurai Box Set. I'm going to get Legends of Kyoto, that is, as soon as I find it....I saw it on Discount Anime DVDs.com and it was listed as Legends of Tokyo, even though the box said Kyoto. It costed WAY more than the Wandering Samurai Boxset did.

I didn't think the Kyoto Arc was too violent. It was violent, but not too overly graphic or explicit in my opinion. It's my favorite arc of the tv series, although I haven't seen the Christian Arc(3rd season) of Kenshin. The Jinchuu Arc is actually my favorite one of Kenshin(Enishi!! ^_^), but it was never in the tv series.

Yeah, it's legit, Gypsy. I bought it at FYE. Or was it FYI....oh well, it was one of those stores. Also, does anyone besides me notice that in some episodes or scenes Kenshin's eyes look sorta like Lafiel's (Crest of the Stars)? Those big, kinda glisteny eyes. I hate spelling, lol.

The "bleaper" thing won't work unless it's got closed captions... Also, some DVD players do the same for Subtitle readers, but that won't help you if the language is only in the dub track, and not in the subtitles which were designed to accomodate the Japanese audio track.

Ah well. I saw something on TV awhile back that you could get and edit any footage on the tape...therefore, you could stop the language.

I personally don't even see why it's worth the bother. I mean, you are not the one USING the words, and hearing them every once in a while is probably not going to hurt you, HOWEVER, I am not saying that cussing is OK, I'm just saying you are not sinning by what you may 'hear'. However, something that has a cuss word every other word is a different story, and I personally would approach such entertainment with caution.
