Conventions!

Postby neoassassin2078 » Thu Apr 08, 2004 7:54 pm

This thread is dedicated to the greatness that is the anime convention! Never will you find a larger gathering of cosplayers cosplaying, otakus otakuing and a dealers room guaranteed to make your wallet much less massive! Coventions have famous anime celebrities being hounded by fans and also middleaged overweight men in skimpy clothing sadly. But I wish to ask everyone here about what they think of conventions and what conventions they've gone to.

Also, I would like to know if anyone present will be attending acen this year in Chicago? If so, can you hook me up with a room to crash in, Please! My parents will be in philadelphia, its very expensive to taketh train and my girlfiends parents seem to hate me.

Anime Cons!! Yay!! I looooooovvvveeeee anime conventions!! There are shockenly three in my state. And one coming around in June. Last year I went to one close to my house called Yasamicon. It was (IS) the first ever FREE anime con in USA! lol, and it just opened. I had a great time there and there were many cosplayers, videogamers, card duelest, prizes, art, AMVs, ect, ect! But I was just wearing my 'NERV' evagelion tee that day. This time I go I will dreess up as Faust from Guilty Gear XX. Or, Ed from Full Metal Alchemist. Or maybe even Kaimu from X! I am not sure all the way.. But anime conventions rule!!! :hits_self

Never heard of acen, but it's quite likely I'll be at Otakon this summer. It'll be my first convention of any sort! And yes, I do plan on slimming down my wallet while I'm there.

I'm a bit "unconventional" when it comes to cons and the spending of capital. Last year I spent 1.75 in the dealers room at acen. What I bought is not something I can mention here. I am perpetually broke. But there's more to them than just merchandise. The cons I've been to have proven to be very beneficial places for meeting young girls who are single.

Oooooooooo K...moving right along...

I am on staff for Animazement in Durham, North Carolina. This year's convention will take place May 28-30. Once again I am in charge of volunteer work so if anyone plans to attend stop by the central operations room (I'm usually there most of the time). I'd be more than happy to meet everyone. Once again, Yuu Watase (Fushigi Yuugi, Ayashi no Ceres, Alice 19th) will be returning.

I want to go too Anime Expo in C.A. this year. But I don't have a way too get their and no one too go with. I've never been to a anime covention before so I want to go to one at least once too see if I like it. But no one too go with and no way too get their. I have no offline friends that share my love of anime and manga. Well I have little offline friends too begin with. I know my parents won't go with me too such a thing either. They would freak out.

I would love to go to one bu tmost of my friends don't like anime so that narrows downmy choices and the ones that do, we can never seem to get organized. However, a couple of my friends are going to a Con this year but they said if you want to go with us, you have to dress up from a Final Fantasy game (I forget which FF they said). The only FF I've played was one on SNES or Crystal Chronicles and the FF they're planning on dressing up as is one I've never played.

On a more serious note, didja notice that Hawaii is getting its first anime con ever? -->http://www.kawaii-kon.org Isn't that cuuuute? (Or, come to think about it, isn't it sad, considering that it's closer to Tokyo than it is to Washington DC, and yet has never had a con? Don't you feel sorry for those deprived Hawaiian otaku?)

My first convention was Katsucon in Crystal City, VA. It was sooo much fun. I was so proud of myself for not spending all my money the first day. I ended up being able to buy, like, 5 manga for 12 bucks on the last day. :thumb:

I LOOOOOOOVE YOUR AVATAR, ELRIC_KUN!!! *glompdrool* And the Krad mask and all... Uwaahh... *swoon*

Ooh, and Ren_sama, Kougaiji would be possible, but you would have to have you-know-who-the-sworn-Kougaiji-fan's approval, or you could find yourself in great danger at being destroyed for impersonating her darling Pansy Man. We shall see... I have not yet decided whether I will be Anna (SK), Sanzo, Kami-sama, Ukoku Sanzo, or Gojyo (all from Saiyuki. Goodness knows how I love all the Sanzos. Except for Ukoku, but he makes me laugh, so OK.) Tsk. Decisions, decisions.

Lol. That was fast.

We're getting off subject, though. I shall attempt to rectify that.

So... What are your guys' favorite things to do at a con? Certain activities? Certain type booths to browse, etc.?

I want to attend the one in Dallas, TX this year but at this rate it doesn't seem likely. No one to invite to go on the road trip and it doesn't seem like I'll have the money for the motel. So I guess I'll just stay home eating lots of Almond Pocky and drivel in mud.

On the plus side if anyone lives in the San Antonio area or in Texas and wants to go I would be delighted to invite. Oh and for the individuals who do go to any convention please show some pictures.
