Why I love Anime: Top 7 bravest actions inspired by love

Hello, I understand everyone love lists so I'll be doing some lists of the reasons why I love anime. The first one is because characters usually are depicted as able to do seemingly impossible feats (either because physical unfeasibility or because it goes against the very nature of the character) when inspired to save or protect others. So here is my Top 7 (some heavy spoilers, do not read if you haven't seen)

7. Ranma 1/2: Nihao my Concubine
[spoiler]Ranma destroys the fountain that could reverse his curse definitely, to save Akane, who was also falling in it, from becoming a man. I like this particular one because it had been Ranma's quest during all the series to get cured of his, uh, "condition" and this was the only time when the real thing was there, just up for grabs (as opposite to the hundreds of flukes and fakes shown in the series) and he sacrificed it to protect Akane without even thinking it twice.[/spoiler]

6. Saint Seiya
[spoiler]Seiya breaks his right arm trying to absorb the impact from a fall of hundreds of feet, saving Saori from a certain death. For a series that totally relies on characters getting severely beaten up and sacrificing their lives to defeat god-like opponents threatening the life of their princess, I found this non-battle small sacrifice the most touching and the most impressing. The way Seiya struggles to hold Saori while trying to cling to the side of the mountain with a broken arm is really remarkable.[/spoiler]

5. Dragon Ball Z
[spoiler]Piccoro stops the lethal blast from Nappa with his body, saving Gohan's life. You may say whatever you like about DBZ and probably you'll be mostly right, but it still doesn't take away the fact that it had truly epic moments like this one. I find it extremelly touching for two reasons: First, the character of Piccoro, the self-appointed "king of evil". Aloof, menacing and cruel he's taught to love by the son of his archnemesis as he brutally trains him for a hopeless fight and ends sacrificing his life for him. Second, in an universe, such as DB's where death is but a small inconvenience thanks to the dragon balls, his death was even more significative, as he was full aware that they would cease to exist as well, the moment he died. It would have been more sensible to let Gohan die and later resurrect him with the dragon balls, but he just couldn't help himself.[/spoiler]

4. Rurouni Kenshin
[spoiler]Kaouru breaks Jin-eh's spell to prevent Kenshin from reverting to his Hitokiri Battosai persona. Ha! You thought It'd be some Kenshin's feat, didn't you? But in some ways, Kenshin never did (in the TV series) anything beyond his own power. He constantly pushed his limits, yes, but even before learning the Amakakeru Ryo no Hirameki, Shishio had regarded him as an equal (as long as he fought with his full Hitokiri skills). Now, poor Kaouru really got few chances to shine, but this one was exceptional. No one ever had broken Jin-eh's spell once falling on it -and he was a seasoned fighter, having defeated hundreds of opponents- but this rather bland and weak girl managed to do it, not to save her own life, but to save the man she loved from going bad.[/spoiler]

3. Tokyo Godfathers
[spoiler]Hana jumps off the building to save Kiyoko's life against all chances and is rewarded with a miracle. There's no much to add here, Tokyo Godfathers is a great movie about how love can be found in the most unlikely persons, really good to reminds us that though God hates sin, He does love sinners.[/spoiler]

2. Slayers NEXT
[spoiler]Gourry chases and clings to the Lord of Nightmares herself demanding Lina back. Slayers Next series finale is one of my favourites, following a monumental plot twist with one of the bravest deeds ever. We are talking here about the most powerful being in the universe, creator of everything and devoid of sympathy for the puny creatures that sprang out of her sea of chaos, but Gourry, unfazedly, wouldn't be taking a "no" from her until she handed Lina back. The moment when he manages to grab her ankle just before dissappearing into the overworld is unique. The mixture of indignation and admiration in her face before Gourry's determination... it would really be so easy to vaporize this insolent pest, and yet...[/spoiler]

1. Aa! Megami-sama!
[spoiler]Keiichi slaves away for weeks at multiple part time jobs to gather enough money to buy Belldandy a ring, knowing that it will probably be a parting gift. This is probably the most mundane of the list but also the most touching. Keiichi, faced with an ever incresingly silent and reclusive Belldandy and with a very obvious objection to their relationship from truly higher powers, doesn't give up but does all he can do in his meekly, earthy powers. Truly an example for us all.[/spoiler]

And for Rouruni Kenshin, although I've pretty much just read the remembrance chapters (Samurai X OVAs in anime), I'd say your wrong.[spoiler]It has to be when Tomoe jumped in front of Kenshin and took the hit, in an assasination attempt that she(mostly) set to avenge her fiance.[/spoiler]

LOL I love this scene. It was right around this scene where, when I was first watching Kenshin, I realized "DUDE THIS SHOW IS AMAZING I NEED MORE."

3. Tokyo Godfathers
[spoiler]Hana jumps off the building to save Kiyoko's life against all chances and is rewarded with a miracle. There's no much to add here, Tokyo Godfathers is a great movie about how love can be found in the most unlikely persons, really good to reminds us that though God hates sin, He does love sinners.[/spoiler]

And this. This is a delightful movie]Meroko sacrifices herself to save Mitsuki,[/spoiler]

not to mention the scene in the final episode of Haibane Renmei, where

[spoiler]Rakka saves Reki from the oncoming train.[/spoiler]

Of course, neither of those are cases of romantic love, but I find them just as inspiring. XD

Wait, when did this happen? Or you mean when they found that utopic land of Pikachus and Ash let Pikachu go, but in the end Pikachu chose to go with him? Otherwise, argh, why isn't this on spoilers?

Hmmm, I dunno I find Kaoru's more impressive because she was a (seemingly) much weaker woman. Still, I was just including the anime TV series there.

As for my own favorite, two words sum up just about everything:

Jacuzzi. Splot.

7. Vision of Escaflowne

[spoiler]When Hitomi goes back to our world, Van goes back to get her - even when he thinks she loves Allen.[/spoiler]

6. Spirited Away

[spoiler]All the stuff Chihiro does towards the end to try to help Haku. She goes up against Yubaba and No-Face, climbs to dizzying heights, and goes on a long journey, all for Haku (and her parents).[/spoiler]

5. Castle in the Sky

[spoiler]Just about everything Pazu does in the movie is because of Sheeta. He's very brave, never giving up no matter the obstacle, and even when he's told repeatedly to just go home, he always tries to save Sheeta.[/spoiler]

4. Tsubasa Chronicle

[spoiler]When Sakura loses her feathers (her soul), Syaoran would do anything to bring them back. I think his bravest moment was when he was willing to give up Sakura's memories of him if she could just get her soul back.[/spoiler]

3. Haibane Renmei

[spoiler]Either when the bird comes across the wall to help Rakka, or when Rakka saves Reki from the train - even though Reki had just told her she'd been using her for her own mental health.[/spoiler]

2. Wolf's Rain

[spoiler]The ending of Wolf's Rain is full of courage, sacrifice, and death, but I think the bravest action in all of that was when Toboe took the bullet for Quent. Quent had tried to kill him and his friends many times, but Toboe loved him anyway, and he was ready to die for the old man.[/spoiler]

1. Full Metal Alchemist

Seriously, this should be in the list of everyone who's seen FMA.

[spoiler]The single bravest moment in all the anime I've seen is at the end of FMA's first anime, when Ed and Al sacrifice themselves for each other. They've lost everything; all their leads have turned up dead ends. Ed has died, Al will soon be nothing but a stone. But Al gives himself up to bring Ed back, and when Ed wakes up with the original body he'd been longing for all this time, he turns right around and gives himself up for his little brother. If that's not the most beautiful, brave, selfless thing to ever appear in an anime, I don't know what is.[/spoiler]
