Cyborg 009

Postby ShiroiHikari » Sun Jun 01, 2008 3:11 pm

I caught this series a couple of times when it was on Cartoon Network a few years ago. I wanted to see the rest of it because I liked it, but it disappeared from the lineup, never to return.

Well, yesterday I found a DVD of the first 8 episodes for $2.50, so I snatched it.

Anyway, did anybody else watch this show? I'd love to see the whole thing someday because I just love the style of it. But I don't think that's ever gonna happen.

I recently found the 2 disk set with 8 episodes for $3.. Sadly, episodes 1-8 are the only ones that have been brought to the US. (Not sure if I can say this, Mods please edit if I can't) but I did find find at least episodes 1-25 dubbed on YouTube, which I can send you the link to. While I'm against torrenting licensed series, seeing as I own all that it going to be released, I personally don't feel it's problem. Let me know you you want the link. =)

Anyway, it's a pretty enjoyable show. The art isn't my favorite, but I can look past that.. =)

I actually like the art. Something about that art style is very charming. (I think it's because it reminds me of the 80s.)

Yup, I remember this series as well as Joshua Seth voicing 009 and that techno ending song by Globe.

Yes, I remember watching this anime. It definitely has a distinctive style. I loved learning about each individual cyborg and the basic storyline. It got a little weird(I remember something about the gods at Olympus), but I was also sad that it went off of Cartoon Network. Don't know if I'd be in the market for it, though, b/c there are a ton of other anime I have not purchased yet.

I have seen two of the three series. The Cyborg 009: The cyborg Solider is one that I stop watching after I moved on in watching other anime titles.

The 1968 version Cyborg 009, this one was 26 eps long
The 1979 version of Cyborg 009, which was 50 eps long
The 2001 Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier, which was 48 episodes and plus one special and a three episode OVA called Conclusion God's War.

I like Shotaro Ishinomori work, but the Cyborg 009 series was something that I felt was okay IMO.

What I really want to see is The Skull Man, which was a manga done by him and become an anime in 2007.

I remember seeing 009 on CN, also and really enjoying it... the animation style DOES have that certain charm for those of us who are old enough to remember Akira, Macross/Robotech, Starblazers and GoLion... ahhh the 80's... golden age of anime IMHO... :)

its a good series, but haven't seen too much past the eight on disk. Would love it if they released more

[font="Trebuchet MS"][SIZE="4"][color="RoyalBlue"]I've seen the 2001 version. It's pretty cool...not something that caught my attention because I didn't see the first episode in it's entirety, but still, pretty darn good!

Yes---I would love to see the whole thing, too. I just ordered one of the movies. The character design really appeals to me, and the character set itself.

The CD, Cyborg 009 Super Best, has become my all-time favorite.
