CAA on Cell Phones

((Please note this is just a random idea I had!))

How about we have a chibi version of the forum in WAP format, so it can be viewed on mobile devices like cell phones!

That would make me want internet on my phone even more. XD

I don't know how easy or difficult and time consuming it would be to accomplish, though. XD Probably the latter of the two, but it is a neat idea.

I do like the idea, but in terms of how many would visit CAA useing their cell phone it might be a problem.

=[ You guys, we need to get off the computer SOMETIMES.

Just kidding. Seems like a good idea, but it might entail extra work that Mith doesn't need on his plate..?

The alternate solution to this is to invest in an I-Phone/I-Touch and use the full function browser on it... if you really want to be connected to CAA on the go.

::Growls at the mention of iPhone::

Anyway, I pulled up CAA on the iPhone--the keyboard is too small for these long fingers to work properly, and you have to zoom in really close in order to click links!

Let's take this from a project management point of view.

What is the problem we are trying to solve? Just because something is cute or cool doesn't always mean it's worth doing just now.

Would this be a lower priority than getting the various bugs (like edit times) figured out instead? Would it be higher? With the bugs, we have an actual problem to solve - i.e., the system isn't working properly and it's causing people to have a negative experience (which might lead to lost users).

I'm willing to entertain the idea, but I'll wait until I hear a valid problem definition first.

:D

Omigosh, you sound so much like the business unit directors at my workplace or myself when I get too many project briefs. Hahahahaha! XDD

Basically, this falls under the "nice-to-have" category of ideas. It's not bad - however, I'm pretty sure these are placed below the "must-have"s.

You can't get all the features, but you *can* read/write... Sort of. See the "archive" link at the bottom right? Click that, then click the "pda" link in the upper right to get access to a login screen.

My apologies for bumping this up. Three years later, I am back with my iPhone. I wonder if more members are using their mobile phones to surf the Net today.

If not, that's fine. I'm ok using the full browser version on Safari.

I wondered about the bump. When I saw this I was all, "didn't I reply to this years and years ago...?" XD

I pulled it up on an iPad and it works great. Unless we app-ifyed it, it might be a little difficult to re-skin for iPhone. Then again, Straylight has some mad coding skillz. Maybe he can think of something.

Well, just to answer Mave, I do use my iPod Touch to browse CAA and other sites, but I usually don't have problems with it. I even use the chat with it.

I'd say something if I had a cellphone. But I'll admit when I DID have a cellphone I would have loved to have this on my phone. <3

I'm good on my Droid (The sexy one, with the physical keyboard, that looks like a brick?), but haven't tried chat.

Yeah, it's fine (along with every other vB site that I go to) on the iPod/iPhone.

It's sort of iffy on my Blackberry, but the chat (while I can go into it) doesn't bring anyone up or any chatting or anything...I don't know. =/

I agree it's tricky on the iPhone, since we're bumpin' and stuff. Haven't tried it on the Nexus One yet.

It works sort of OK on my Ipod touch. Haven't tried my actual phone, because everything that I view on that phone looks pretty bad anyway.

I know you can get vBulletin skins which are designed specifically to work with phones. If we were to install such a skin it might make phone browsing a lot easier. It would be quite easy to do as well.

A skin would be a great alternative to a mobile version of the site.
