Video Game Reviews?
PostPosted: Mon Nov 17, 2003 5:27 pm

I know this is mainly an anime board, but many people who watch anime also play video games, and since we have a forum for anime reviews, why not video game reviews written from a Christian perspective? Christian game reviews are very hard to find on the internet, and I was wondering what anyone thinks of this idea?

I second that idea! You have a Christian game reviewer right here!

It was the first thing that popped into my head when making my user title, and it may or may not be a direct result of inspiration from Chrono Trigger.

I'll review if it's all right.
Although my reviews will pretty much be on classic PS1 titles, not new games. -^.^-

To everyone involved--I've gotten your PM's and such, and it's being put before the other admins and mods. We'll let you know soon.

Do you know what I'd love to do? Review Atari, Master System, and NES games! Not just review them, but do a show about them, ala x-play only for old games... And maybe 80's myself up somehow... A flock of seaguls, maybe? Yeah, that would be great! And I could go all the way up to PS1 days, and finish it off with a review of FF8!
Just a thought.

The main reason for suggesting a seperate forum for game reviews is because, if they are posted in the gamer's galore forum, they would get buried under all the other topics, and in a review forum, they would be all archived together.

Here are links to the ones I posted:
Fire Emblem
RS 3
Freedom Fighters
I'm working on two more reviews: Prince of Persia -Xbox and Viewtiful Joe -GCN (I'm renting both currently, but I wished I had bought 'em.)

I'm a game reviewer myself as I have written a few reviews elsewhere. I can help review games here if a video game forum gets established.
I have PS1, GBA, PS2, GCN, and PC, so I could review stuff for all of the most recent systems except X-Box. RPG's are my specialty...

Thanks Link.... I did a "show all threads started by this user" off your profile and didn't find those posts... I think someone else mentioned this problem before, oh well....
BTW, good reviews, I might just have to see about picking up Freedom Fighters for the XBox once the price drops.

Well you can find walkthroughs just about anywhere by doing a google search, or just by asking around. I know people in the past have posted about where to find such-and-such walkthrough, and people respond in kind. Still, we'll consider it, ok?

I wouldn't mind doing any Video Game reviews at all. I own a PS, PS2, Gamecube, a PC, SNES, N64, and NES. Sorry, I do not have a XBox. I wouldn't mind doing some reviews to and fro, but it might take awhile, seeing as how it takes me a little while to beat games so...
But yeah, I would love to do some reviews. I could get started soon, maybe.

Alright, this is a pretty old thread, but I had heard something about this and really wanted to do it. Is it still being discussed among the Mods and Admns?
I have many reviews I could do (some old, some new) and I, along with many others, I'm sure, would like to see this become a reality here.

Yes, it is. It's on Mithrandir the Awesome's to-do list, but he's a very busy man. Trust me though, he's still interested in this. ^^

HI! Great idea! Let's review some christian games!..
- Sacred (Ascaron)
A Diablo-style RPG where you can choose between Seraphim, Battle mages, Wood Elves, Dark Elves or Unholy Vampires as characters. Definitely good for angel or adventure-lovers. There are two expansions available and new characters to choose from.
- Diablo I and II (Blizzard)
Having played through 1 and 2 of this Demon-slaying epic, I have to say this is one of the best PC games I've ever played - in fact, if Diablo was the only game available on PC, I wouldn't mind at all. There is also a Battle Edition, two special editions, guides online, expansions, patches...everything you need to get totally engrossed.
- Pilgrim: Faith As A Weapon (Infogrames)
OLD PC game. This might take some looking for - and how do you get fullscreen mode? A Knight Templar bring back a manuscript from the Crusades and is pursued by Simon De Lancrois, the main character, a young boy, whose curiosity arouses the anger of the Inquisition under Pope Innocent III. Comes with an encyclopedia of the middle ages, over 150 pages long. It's better than some of the other old PC games.
- Koudelka (Infogrames)
This old PSX RPG is a GEM, if only for the brilliantly-voices cutscenes. It's also great if you like to play priests. You can play up to three characters in a party. It's a cross between Resident Evil-style exploring and standard RPG random encounters, with Fr. James O'Flaherty really playing out his part for all it's worth. The manual is nice too.
- FF VIII (Square Enix)
Ah, sorry, this PSX game is still my favourite, it's very pretty. So I had to put it in. Ah Squall is soo cute...
- Tactics Ogre (Ogre Battle Saga, formerly Quest games)
If you haven't done so already I would Strongly Recommend you play either the PSX or GBA version! A Battle-strategy game. Not only is it possible to raise a powerful army of Priests and Exorcists but you can also, with skill, create the secret Angel Knights to fight alongside you. Fantastic Medieval scenery and hundreds of different classes to choose from...get engrossed!
- Final Fantasy Tactics (Square Enix, strategy)
Fighting in a variety of locations from evil monastery crypts to giant castles, you'd think you were in Britain. Fantastic play, lots of Job classes and wonderful spells. This is a gem.
- Hunter: The Reckoning (White Wolf)
Now, I don't know about you, but I'm in love with Fr. Esteban Cortez. How often do you get to play a priest with a sword AND a crossbow? Not very often! Get the Cube version or XBox and expect a real challenge.
- Baten Kaitos (Namco)
Winged people, pretty graphics and nice voice acting. If you can get used to the random "cards" battle system, this is a beautiful story with angel-like characters in it whose wings pop in and out. Let's see those wings!
...um, can't think of any more. Are these reviews any good?

Um, I think most of us were thinking of an actual Video Game Review Forum. It's good to know it's still a possiblity, though. ^_^

The database system is easiest for us to work with, because it allows for us to have a unified format and a way to approve of reviews before they are posted. Since our name is on the line, we want to make sure everything said is accurate and truthful.

Ah. OOH. Oh well. Sorry. Gomen. I dunno...sorry and stuff...I thought it's be nice to write reviews too. (I wasn't here! You didn't see me! GYAAH!!)

Are you referring to the way some people will put things down and say it's not so good simply because they don't like it, or do you mean something else?
