I think the "Online Users" on index.php is messed up. it says no one's on, and then I go to forums.php and it says people -are- on.

Does it always do that for you? What if you come back to this page after looking at stuff?

It's not doing it for me, so I guess I'm confused...

I did some testing with this. I can remember one time when I returned to CAA and this occurred. However, even refreshing windows in a variety of modes I have not gotten the same results again. It could be a fluke (or a bunch of people all logged on very quickly).

yeah, it always does it...I haven't figured out what's making it do that yet. sometimes it's normal but sometimes it only shows me a few names or no names at all. right now it appears to be normal though...

I find it happens when I leave and come back.

Maybe nobody was on and then a bunch of people got on real quickly.

It refreshes itself every 15 seconds or so, methinx. The other thing that I was thinking was that Mithy had disabled it for bandwidth reasons or something, but apparently that isn't the case.
From the pic, it seems to be working, cause it sees guests.

This strikes me as an accurate observation. It is difficult for me to test that (as I rarely log back on to the same terminal), but if someone else was able we might be a step closer to knowing what is going on.

Wednesday I noticed it as well. When I clicked on the forums-link which displays all the forums, it shows everyone on-line. If I go back to the main menu it shows no users online. Strange...

Hmm... Is everyone going to the new address? (Don't go to the IP ADDY any more). No one has the old IP address thing bookmarked, right?

I never use bookmarks, so no. Also, I've never had the error when first logging into the .net site, either.

You mean 66.92.1.159? I'm guilty of that, since it runs faster on Firefox...

The system may be confused when your client goes from an IP based homing to name based. Since all the URLs on CAA (well, and non-relative URLs) point to the named system, it might have issues. Try it using the (slower) name version for a week and see if it still does it.

Actually, if I have a second tab open and tell it to go to CAA when I have the first one there already, and I go to CAA's home, it runs as christiananime.net but when I log on originally it goes to the numerical address which is slower. Don't know if that helps...

Actually, I have run into a similar problem in the past. Sometimes that Online Users box in the index.php page will only show online users whose usernames starts with the letter 'A' (upper or lower case). For example, if AnimeHeretic, Mithrandir, and uc pseudonym were on, then only AnimeHeretic will show up in that box and only count him as an online user.

That might be related to what ShiroiHikari originally pointed out.

Oh, so it's my fault?

j/k ;)

I've had the same problem. In fact, it just happened a minute ago. XD;;;;; It's happened on all the browsers I've used: Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera. Annndd, I use the http://christiananime.net/ address.

Have we ever explored this further? I still don't have the problem, nor have I at any time recently. I have an additional question for those who do have this problem: if you refresh the window, does the listing become accurate?

Nope.

OK. One more question: does anyone care?

Orignally, I wanted to eliminate all errors from the site, but lately I'm becoming less of a perfectionist. I hope this doesn't sound really negative, but if it's not something that actively contributes to a negative experience, I don't know if I care enough to fix it. What with all the other things I've got going on right now...

I've noticed this error before but it didn't bother me enough to voice it out. I guess if it isn't hindering everyone's activity in CAA, it shouldn't be on top of the priority list (unless you've been zoning out in front of the computer screen and chirping along with the crickets, Mith) hehehe

Similarly, I think the problem is negligable. Unless someone who does have this problem is seriously inconvenienced, I think there would be nothing wrong with letting it go.

Seems to me nothing will be 100% working with everyone, so I have no objections if you see good enough as good enough so you can devote your attention to something you view as more importsant-- or maybe even take some time to rest...

What is this "rest" that you speak of?
