Downtime and SLOW speeds

Sorry about all that downtime everyone! Looks like we may be back up for a bit here, so I'll post a hello for anyone who checks in. The PM system may not be working quite right, and I don't know about searches, etc.
We've got the server moved a bit here, so we're looking to see what kind of stability we'll have on this system. Can anyone/everyone check in and let me know how things are working for them and how unbearably slow it is?
During times when the previous system would say, "There seems to be a slight problem with the database" it now will simply slow down your connection (what it should have been doing all along). If you see ANY "THERE SEEMS TO BE" KIND OF ERRORS LET ME KNOW AT ONCE. The primary reason for our current install is to eliminate those errors.
A few other things:
1. Are there any links over at the other URL that aren't working?
2. I'm sorry, but signatures are off for now.
3. No, I can't do anything about that right now.
4. No, I won't respond to your PM about your signature.
5. It's going to be a little slow for a while.
6. No, I haven't changed me mind. I'm STILL not going to respond to your PM about your signature.
7. Volt's "Sidebar" probably doesn't work for now.
8. Email functions are not working. You may not receive notification of new PMs. - FIXED 4/10/2005
9. I REALLY hope this is a quick-fix operation, but it looks like we can't handle new user registration right now. We'll get this up and running as soon as we can. - FIXED 4/9/2005
FIXES:
1. "There seems to be a slight..." error smacked in the head. *smacks error* We're getting them sometimes, but not always now.
2. Attachments. SOME attachments are working, and others are not. I guess we're still ironing out some wrinkles. Please be patient! (Anyone have any experience with GD toolkits not processing jpeg images? lol ) OK. THIS IS FIXED NOW. 4/9/2005
3. PMs go through, but there is no email notification. ( Well, technically I'M getting all the emails. You have NO IDEA how annoying *that* is. ) - FIXED 4/9/2005
4. OK. Looks like the reviews area is fixed now. I hope that stays the case.

Everything works for me at the moment, actually. I've used the "Get New" search and got coherent results, sent a PM that didn't give me an error message, posted a few times and made a new thread. It is slow, but it's existent. Good work.

Fine for me, but I have a high-speed connection.

Doesn't have any images in signature.
Just so you know, OP, all systems appear fully functional for me.
I won't be able to complain about the slowness until I get to my near death computer at home (using college campus pc at the moment.).
Nice work OP. :: gives MacGyver plaque...again::

It works the same for me as it's ever been. Slow as a turtle.
Maybe I could donate a couple hundred dollars towards really fixing CAA up quite a bit?

Woo-hoo! It's working faster for me than it ever has before! ^_____^ (But that's likely because I've switched from IE6SP1 to Netscape 7.2, of course.
)

Amen *high fives MM*
It seems to work fine for me but I am on a college machine with a high speed line. I'll try it on my home dial-up later.

Strange. Very strange. It's faster on this temporary server from my home dial-up than my original server.
Strange, strange...
Other than that, good job getting verything back on-line again!

Seems to run faster on my dial up also. I went to the review section about sending off a review and it appears to be nonexistent.

This was briefly tested on IE 6.0
Home link: OK
Forums: Sometimes OK. "Page cannot be displayed" on the comment forum and once, in the general forum.
Reviews: Not OK (Database down with following errors on top of page "Warning: mysql_connect(): Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client in /var/www/html/reviews.php on line 136")
The list: OK
Arcade: OK
Calendar: OK
Get New: OK
Search: Seems OK (found my threads without any hassle)
User CP: Looks OK
Attachment function: Somewhat OK, it displayed only png files and neglected my jpg files. I still see my jpg file within the attachment manager (there are actually 5 files).
http://66.92.1.159/showthread.php?p=371310#post371310
PM system: OK. I can send PMs off just fine. Not sure about receiving.
Speed: Significantly slower but I won't complain about it...(oh wait, I just did
)
I'll add more if anything comes up. Hope this helps for now. Thanks oldphil for your hard work! (^_^)\

So how is this "CAA" different form the other CAA??? I mean, excepted for the fact we can't use certin things??
I just don't get what you did.

Let's see, what did we do...?
We moved CAA approximately, what, 8.5 million meters? (Or would that be metres?
)
We had a server meltdown caused by a lot of circumstances we could not control. Rather than leave the box down for a few weeks while we figured out what to do, we've moved it temporarily. If we decide we can't do anything about the other box, we'll have to make some significant changes to our current setup and live with it like it is, I guess.

Hey hey I got some weird stuff going on with me. For awhile it was changing on and off from black to white backgrounds and then it wouldn't let me log in until just now, I kept getting a server error. Yet when I clicked on your profile to e-mail you, I was suddenly logged in! And yes it IS slower than normal but not by much. In anycase, I'm here now until it randomly decides to boot me off again! I don't relish your job, love! i don't understand pc's at all! ^_^ God bless and give you patience!

Ok the reviews section works for me though it randomly flashed a warning page before switching to the review section. When it switches to white background I have no quick reply box. This is so weird! XD!!!!! I'll post nething else I find but so far all the links work for me!

Here's something to report: I got notification of a PM from myself (nothing marked in PM section though). Not a big thing-- but in case you want to be informed about oddities.

A bit slower, as you said, even with a high-speed connection, but fine. ^o^/

I've been curious about this; which direction? Whose box are you using, for that matter?

Let's just say that my connection to CAA has never been faster.

This has got to be the first time I have gone over an entire day without seeing a 'There is a problem with the Database error.'
I like.

I second this. I deeply appreciate this improvement.

YEAH!!!!! That was arguably the only real reason we moved. The fact that it's acutally running FASTER for some people is rather mind bending to me, honestly.
Anyway, I'll say it again ( because inquiring minds want to know -
I want to know! )
If anyone ever get's the old "There seems to be a slight problem with the database" error again, PLEASE TELL ME IMMIDIATELY!!!

I would. As of yet, I haven't ever gotten it. Occasionally I have gotten a "Page not found" error, but it has always refreshed easily and I've never lost anything.

Most of those are the result of my rebooting the server (and other maintenance). Once I iron out a few more winkles, I think we'll be all set.

Question!!!
Okay, my sister is trying to register for the site, but once we get to the page when we're suppose to type in the word in the registration image-- well, there is no image. *evil database. . .*
Any ideas on how I can sign her up? Or do we have to wait until the original CAA is back online?
