How do I color...

an anime picture like this one?

I've been looking for a tutorial forever on how to do it, but couldn't find anything like this!

I am skilled (enough) at Photoshop CS.

Wow...for a minute I almost thought it was gouache or watercolor, but yeah, the background looks 'photoshopped'.

I don't know where to find a tutorial for that style, it looks very time consuming. My best guess is they carefully selected soft colors and painted them in. Then they did a lot of erasing, smudging and bluring! This is a skilled artist who is very familiar with lighting and shading on the human form. It takes practice and some experimentation.

Hmm.. If i was going to try that style I would probably USe the brush tool for laying the main colours then set it to Airbrush( with the hardness at 0%) and the eyedropper tool set at 5x5 sample area and use that to blend the colors... I have a book that explains but not a tutorial.. Maybe i should make one!

Wow. If I had any idea on how to colour like that I would tell you... but as you can probably already tell, I don't know.

Still, if you find a good tutorial or any good advice outside of CAA could you post it here? I could definitely make use of it also. :)

I think he did in his latest picture of shia! Im pretty sure there were links to devart tutorials on this!
