Yeah! Fellow AMV-lovers! Woo!
I use Windows Movie Maker. I tried a couple others, but if you want easy-to-use and user-friendly-ness then I very highly recommend Movie Maker.
Sometimes the quality turns out...icky...but for the most part, I think it's good.
Do I get so see any of your finished works? *cheesy grin*

If I'm able to on the comp I plan on making a few amv's. Could somebody who makes them tell me what you need to have to make one?

I have no clue on how to make an AMV and even if I did I don't have room on my comp to do it. But if I could it would probably be use Neia_7, Noir, or Kino's Journey.

^_^ Elementary, my friends!

INGREDIENTS:
Anime ((any kind, all kinds--preferrably ripped brutally from a DVD))
Movie Program ((such as Windows Movie Maker or Visual Basic))
Patience and Time ((the kind where one is bored in Comp Apps best!))
A song ((format can vary. MP3 or WMA are what I use though))
DIRECTIONS:
Open Movie-making program
Import songs and Anime clips
Choose a song. Apply it.
Using various clips of Anime, paste them along with music
Save da video
Lastly--give ME da video! XD Cuz I lurve 'em!!

Yup....Well, I'm not a teacher...so I guess I'll go now...Sozzy...

AMV Help

I -love- AMVs, especially movie and commercial parodies.

I have been making them for a few years and I'd consider myself lower-intermediate.
Some people with the $$$ can buy all the professional software like Final Cut Pro and hammer out heart-stopping digital effects, but I''m not in that class of artiste myself.

You can do a LOT with Adobe Premiere and only then, add After Effects if you need to. Some software stores have student deals on Premiere for around $270. You might also need to buy a sound editor like SoundForge if you can't find a good freeware equivalent. You can do a decent anoumt of sound editing in Premiere as long as you start with a clean .wav or mp3 file. Most CD ripping tools will get you decent enough audio, unless you want to edit the music or sounds as well as fitting video clips to audio.

Most if not ALL of the other stuff you need can be gotten FREE at places like http://www.doom9.org If you're on Windoze, nab a copy of DVD Decrypter and a copy of VirtualDub 1.5.10 or so, NOT the latest.

Get the latest XVid codec and PUH-LEEZE do NOT encode in WMV. The compression is cruddy, plus you make it needlessly hard for folk running non-MS stuff like Mac or Linux (me!) to see your work. The quality of WMV is FAR less than AVI anyways Use Xvid codec to compress to AVI as a good start. Do -NPT- use DiVX encoding past 5.05 because they insert an automatic web bug that pops up in the lower right hand corner. This means that if you have a video work in which SOME of the clips are DiVX and others are not, the web bug will pop up EVERY TIME a DiVX clip goes by. This is annoying for viewers, as you can guess.

You use Virtual dub to select video clips from the VOB files decrypted from the DVD. Edit the work in Premiere, but export UNCOMPRESSED, and finally VirtualDub again to compress. I can help you make VirtualDub obey if you PM me.

My latest AMV ideas in the cooker:

- Chobits to 'Electric Barbarella' (Duran-squared) I really didn't like Chobits, and illustrating the travails of the drippy boy using the lyrics of a song about tripping out with a cyber-blow-up doll named for a cheezy 60's/70's SF movie character should lampoon it just about right.

- A spoof trailer made up from dialogue from the movie 'The Highlander" ("there can BE only ONE!") to MAI Hime. (Further explanantion might spoil the series.)

- A WW2 project using period music such as Richard Rodgers 'Victory at Sea' to illustrate the fates of 30 - 50 Imperial Japanese Navy ships whose names we might all recognise, from destroyer Ayanami (Rei) to Katsuragi, the ill-fated Aleutian diversion with Asagiri (no Miko) and Kasumi (from X?) plus fleet oiler 'Naruto,' not to mention the loss of the Akagi (Ritsuko) at Midway - Asuka (Souryu) was also sunk there, despite Arashi ('X') doing her best to drive off the USS Nautilus - and at the end, poor ol' Hibiki (Vandread) got hauled off to the serve in the Soviet navy....

- And ONE more I'm keeping a SECRET!

What AMV(s) are you thinking of making?

*gazes up in awe at Geirr's post* *bows, humbled* Wow! O Talented AMV-maker!! Where might I be able to view your wonderful AMVs? When do you think you'll be finished with your Secret Video? May I see it? Goodness gracious, where have you BEEN all my life!? :jump:

1. Go to http://www.animemusicvideos.org, and search for member 'Geirr' - I've got about 8 up there now. - Enjoy!

2. Depends - I have a few projects going, plus some non-anime related A/V projects as well, AND my tuner card jusdt DIED so I have to go back to a 320x240 Dazzle DV80 (Don't worry - I'll be using ripped footage from other tools.) But I need the SOUND off of some old VHS sources. Anyways, it could be this fall or winter.

PS I might abandon the 'Barbarella' project because in listening to Duran-squared's lyrics I detected some possibly objectionable words (from a Christian perspective) - "Wear the fake fur, the fake balls** for me..." and unless I can turn that into a CLEAN and FUNNY moment, fully distanced from the implied depravity of the original work, then I just might cancel and try something ELSE.

** Some CLEAN ideas here are a shot of those pom-pom things on Japanese traditional men's garb - you can see these in Tenchi Muyo (Tenchi's grandfather) or a few Yakuza-types (Gokusen, perhaps?) But I want to stick with one show as much as possible, so I'd have to composite-edit the clothing onto the K-drip in Chobits.

i made about 10 AMV using Window movie maker they turned out ok, but the best video editing program is Adobe premier 1.5 pro, you can downlaod it for free and use it for 30 day trail, though it mighttake you 30 to figure out how to use it. Another good editing program if you use mac is Final Cut pro which is identical to adobe premier. Ive only made 2 music videos (for local bands) with premier and they turned out good. The only thing thats is hard in premier is it doesnt break the video down into clips unlike window movie maker. And make sure your PC can handle movie making it take up alot of RAM and HD.

Is anyone going to Kumoricon (Portland, OR) or Cascadiacon (Seatac, WA) on this upcoming Labor Day weekend?
