Well I dont' think many people on here have used both (myself included) so you're going to have problems finding people who can "compare" them. And I'm certain this topic has been discussed before in the tutorials section. If you have both just try them each for a day and see which you prefer, I don't understand why you need our opinion. o_O
Actually it's not that fair to compare them in the first place. Gimp is a graphics program for free download, Photoshop is a expensive program used by professionals. If you're going to compare I'd say Paint Shop Pro is closer to Gimp, and even then I'm not so sure. Basically you are going to be able to do about 100 times more things with Photoshop.

Yeah, I'd have to reitterate MyrrhLynn's comments. I've never used GIMP, I don't know anything about it. I think photoshop's pretty easy to use, but that's probably because I've been using it since version 4. If you really want photoshop but can't afford the $600, you could look into an academic version ($200) if you're a student, or I think there's a version called 'Elements' or something for around $100 which is like a cheap dumb-downed version. Don't quote me on that though... it's been a while since I was PS shopping.

I am just here to say: Photoshop all the way. Tried the GIMP, didn't like it.

I cant afford photoshop so I use GIMP. It's a pain to learn and tempermental sometimes but I manage.

Photoshop is way easier, Gimp's ok, has some good points, but has a few abnormalities that annoy me (like the floating tools aren't always on top - if there's a setting for this, please tell me).
Maybe it's just because i'm used to Photoshop more (since v5 to CS) (although I use gimp on my linux box) Paint Shop Pro is excellent if you can't afford Photoshop, and has better vector tools and easier photo touchup than either Photoshop or Gimp, if I remember right.

Photoshop is obviously more hardcore program, but I can't afford it, so I'm going with GIMP.

It depends. Do you really NEED the photoshop extras? The fact that it's easier to use does not, in my opinion justify hundreds of dollars. Of course, this is coming from the man who went out and bought his-and-hers matching G5 towers in response to the headache of windows.

Objectivity at it's finest, I see.
It depends on what you want to do. Gimp is awesome at animated gifs...

ImageReady comes with Photoshop, and is also great for animated GIFs, seems everyone overlooks ImageReady.
