Welcome to Corus

In this young world, humanoids have separated themselves by their respective races and inhabit their own nations. Each race always has its eyes on the other and suspicions run high but this kind of nationalism has resulted in the breeding of skills exclusive to certain races. Feeling the need for a union, a call has gone out from Coren from a new leader. He summons representatives from each race to meet and discuss the beginning of a new age of peace and understanding between nations and races.

The races:
The Aelira
These are the inhabitants of the sky. They appear completely human but have a secret ability to assume a ghostly form and can glide from place to place. Not many have this take place but those who have spread rumors of its mystery. The Aelira are the most technologically advanced of the races of Corus and live in floating cities enclosed in protective shields. They have not chosen to invest their intelligence in warfare, however, and instead live to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the world. They are nomadic and make their way from city to city, going wherever the wind takes them.
In spite of this truth, the most well-known example of the Aelira culture is still a floating circus created by lesser-minded members of the race for profit. This circus is visited frequently by members of all races and is one of the few amusements that they all share. Therefore, the Aelira have a reputation for being…well, air heads. (Much to their annoyance.)
Downfalls: A bit arrogant and elitist, they do not pair very easily with others.
Special skills: Wind elementals, high intelligence, stealth, semi-invisibility and gliding ability, use of moderate technology.

The Kayorins
Beyal is their homeland, nestled in the subarctic regions to the North. Under most circumstances, they appear completely humanoid as well, but in situations where emotions and tensions are high, their hair changes colors according to their feelings and their skin has been known to change subtly as well. They are a tenacious and energetic people with an immense capacity for handy work, the arts, and martial arts.
They originally lived closer to the center of the continent but their heated personas kept them in a constant sweat. (Plus things had the tendency to catch fire in the drier climate.) Now they make themselves comfortable in the hot springs and snowy peaks. Hunting is a big priority and family is central to their society.
Downfalls: Their short tempers, passionate feelings, and intense curiosity can sometimes lead them to trouble. Not to mention dehydration is a high risk.
Special skills: Fire elementals, strength and ingenuity, loyalty, martial arts-centered warfare, less vulnerability to poisons and sickness.

The Kachal
Undassa is the name of the desert that these people call home but most live in small villages. Fiercely nationalistic, they trust only those who are members of their clan and families. A little less humanoid than others, they have tougher skin with iridescent scales in patches to provide slight armor. They are generally thieves, mercenaries, or pirates but have a strict code of ethics nonetheless. They make their living by traveling in small groups to raid the nearby cities of other races and sell their goods. A dirty job, but someone has to do it as there is no official inter-racial trade. Without these fiends, necessary materials would never make it to the corners of Corus.
Although they are thought of as outlaws by others, they praise themselves as the only race with pure intentions. They hold no real grudges with other races and instead see them all as equal targets for their marauding ways. They are a very proud people and some would argue that they have reason to be.
Downfalls: Slightly ruthless, they have the tendency to be too cavalier in situations that require more…diplomacy.
Special skills: Earth Elementals, lessened vulnerability to weaker weapons, resilience to adversity, fewer needs, incredible physical strength, affinity for fighting with fists and heavy weaponry.

The Marpol
Ilosia is the most major city of these people, housing around 70% of the Marpol population. Situated off the coast, it has an underwater counterpart directly below it built to withstand bad weather. The Marpol skin tones fluctuate depending on if they spend their time above or below the surface but all have a set of small gills behind their ears. Frequent water logging has driven them to build enormous tanning decks and even more frequent sunburn has forced them to develop medical abilities far surpassing those of any other race. Their broad range of remedies and cures has brought up legends of healing waters surrounding Ilosia.
Although they do have the second highest intelligence of all the races, this is generally disregarded as they have a fascination with reflections and are a little vain. Most of them also have short attention spans.
Downfalls: Vanity and ADD makes them annoying at times and they do tend to burn easily.
Special skills: Water Elementals, healing, intelligence, swimming, breathing underwater, long range warfare, longer life span.

The Valira
Coren is their capital and largest city. These are a very versatile people and are completely human. Coren is home mostly to nobility, knights, priests, and their servants, but lately people of all classes have been flocking by the hundreds to hear from its newest leader speak about equality and a better world. As a result, a ring of makeshift homes have been raised around the outskirts of the city and is becoming more and more permanent each day. It is the center of progress for these people and outside of its walls only hunters, hermits, and monasteries exist.
Downfalls: Lessened potential for elemental magic, increased vulnerability to magical attacks.
Special skills: Creativity, fortitude, higher learning ability, wider range of weapons mastery, a little more neutral to all races.

Basically, everyone’s going to be gathering in Coren to start off. Each of you will be completely free to set-up your own motivation for being there. You can be for or against this meeting, you can be protesting it, you can be a representative (and I’ll allow a few representatives from each race if need be), you can just be living there and observing…again, up to you. Just include a little description of what brings you there in the background slot so we kinda have a feel for what to expect. Things are going to take off from there.

Rules:
This is very important. I expect each of you to read and follow these.
1. I don’t want anything too occult coming up with the presence of this magic stuff. I’m leaving the magical side of this pretty flexible and open but don’t make this any darker then it has to be. I really want it to be fun for everyone.
2. No “adult” content. I don’t want gore, I don’t want sexuality. Just don’t go over the top, people. Jesus is reading this.
3. If you’re going to be posting something fairly sizeable that isn’t relative to everyone; A. Re-evaluate your reason for posting it and B. Make a little disclaimer at the top so someone can save some time and skip it if they need to.
4. Also, if there is no disclaimer, READ IT. There’s a lot of bloopers and “Ignore that’s” because things are skipped and I want to keep that to a minimum.
5. Please don’t make yourself invincible. I’d really like it if everyone would keep their weapons mastery down to maybe two weapons and their magical attacks down to about four but I’m not going to strictly enforce that unless it gets out of hand and then you’ll be getting a PM.
6. I’d like to make it known that it’s very likely that the GM’s will have precious little to do with this on Sundays. I’m not going to ban posting on Sundays but don’t expect too much forward motion with plot or battles or anything. With that said, do not plague our inboxes with pleas for posts on Sundays. We will be very annoyed and your character will be missing an arm.
7. Show some brotherly love and do not publicly bicker. I don’t want to see this:
OOC: OMG!! You’re such a jerk! That was my kill!
RE: OOC: Pwned.
^ Duel it out over PM.
8. There will be NO taking over someone’s character unless that person sends a PM to one of the GM’s specifically stating that you have his/her permission to do so. There will be flogging involved for this offense.
9. I’m going to have to put a two character limit in motion. Usually after two, one character gets completely neglected anyways but if you’re really going to have a need for more than that, PM a GM. We’ll discuss.

And that should take care of it for rules. Should anything else come to mind I’ll make a note for you to look over the rules again.

Other than that enjoy!

Profile Criteria:

Name: Kaze Weyvin
Race: Marpol
Approx. Age: 27
Appearance: Kaze. He wears a blue skin-tight shirt, for easy swimming. His trousers poof out at the bottom. ( like bell bottoms ) Normally, he has a purple poncho around him.
Background: Kaze has lived a sheltered life in Ilosia. He spent the majority of his time below the water, only surfacing to gaze at his own reflection in utter awe. Like most Marpol, he is arrogant. But this is shattered by his childlike eagerness to see the other races.
Abilities: Healing, of course. An expert swimmer, he is rather shaky on land.
Equipment: A flute given to him as a parting gift by a close friend. He also carries many scrolls, most about the other races, and a large supple of cosmetics. He forgot his weapon at his home... so he's looking for one.

Spiffy! I like that you incorporated the personality flaws I gave the Marpol.
In case you're wondering, there's cooky elements to all the races simply because I want to keep things light and fun. I mean, there will be lots of "epic" moments but there will be lots of comic relief too.

I want a little input, though.
Would it be alright with you two if I gave everyone semi-frequent opportunities to showcase their writing talent?
An example of what I mean is that I'm toying with the idea of having players (just whoever wants to) come up with folklore, history, poetry, national documents, etc for their character's race and then incorporating that into the direction of the RPG.
Basically it would be like what Tolkien did with Middle Earth...but obviously more interactive.

Thanks! I enjoyed reading about the races. Your races are all very diverse, which is neat and adds a sense of realism. ^^ I'm looking forward to the rpg~

Sure! I'm game for that! Just let me know what you need or want. ^.~

... *ahem* ............ I apologize for the... massive-ness... (has been working on this since this thread went up).

Name: Aadi Ly Mordeau (Ah-dee, Lie, More-Dough)
Race: Marpol
Approx. Age: 24

Appearance: Sports a pair of cliche-ly deep blue eyes, coupled with equally cliche, blue-tinted, black hair. On a scale of, 'Pale to Tan', she's somewhere in the negatives (with a slight -ever cliche- blueish tint) - since she spends close to zero time above water. She's about 5'8" with curves in all the right places, and sadly is not afraid to flaunt it when she sees fit.

Background: Aadi is rather pompous, and views herself as 'above' most people she encounters, which might explain why she walks around like she owns the world, mirroring the worst traits of her people 90% of the time (arrogance, vanity, narcissism, fascination with reflections... The only thing that seems to be missing is ADD - though that's not to say she's a patient person). Her mother and father are both prominent, and proficient healers, which makes it seem strange to said parents that, while she does know quite a bit of healing, she doesn't seem the least bit interested. Despite disinterest, Aadi's greatest asset might just be how extremely well read and intelligent she is, regardless of character flaws suggesting otherwise.
When hearing of this new leader in Coren, the thought of a single man urging others to bring unity to the races had nagged at her for some strange reason - One that she will only currently describe to you as an attraction to the ludicrisity the prospect presented.
Even though it's really the nobility that's attracting her.
It really did present itself at the perfect time for her though, seeing as on her 25th birthday - which is getting too close for comfort - she'll be completing a certain marriage ceremony she'd rather not begin in the first place.

Abilities: An extreme intelligence that appears randomly, and sometimes has flat out bad timing (As in: Oh darn, NOW I remember how to defuse that bomb!). The ability to turn into a giant, legally blind bacon crisp above water - apply sun repellent cosmetics, and eye coverings liberally (Oh, sorry, does that not count?). Skill with a bow that can be considered almost useless above water if it's too sunny out. Better night vision than most. Knows a great deal about healing.

Equipment: A big cylindrical bag to carry everything around her shoulders. Clothing, spare clothing, some more spare clothing (No, I don't know how she fit it all in there, so don't ask), a giant jar of sunscreen, Some medical supplies, snacks, her engagement ring (Never know when you'll have to flash a, 'Yeah, I'm sadly taken'), some parchment and pen, and a knife, along bow and arrows (Just incase).

Extra: Allergic to shellfish. Yes, it's tragically ironic. And just incase you didn't catch it, she's highly sensitive to bright light - in all aspects.

I really like this class, I think they would appeal to me the most. Perhaps it is cause you said 'Knight' maybe not, really not sure. But seems like this will be a awesome RPG to become a spectator for, or maybe I will be able to jump into it as well.

I would love to create a political knight, if I could in Coren. Does this mean that the Valira cannot use magic at all or? Maybe with weapons once in a blue moon mix it together.

Well, anyways I am interested and just wondering if anyone could join, I may have a couple questions if I can.

Also, what if my mother was a Kayorin? And father a Valira?

Thanks

Hmm, in the case of the Valira, I would encourage you to think of yourself in a middle ages, fantasy kind of setting and imagine what you would come up with in that capacity. Your magic ability will be limited in comparison to other races but you're still capable of using it.
You're free to figure out how you want to deal with that on your own but if you want my idea of it, I would say that you would rely heavily on weapons mastery and your magic use would be something like potions or learned lesser magic from mages/wizards/whathaveyou of other races.
Because this is an rpg based on the coming together of races, I would say as your exposure to others increases, your magical ability will as well.
I'm going to make this all flow very easily in the RPG by having all the characters bump into NPCs who can offer new materials and skills and broaden the world vision. In the beginning, things'll be shaky and maybe a little boring but as we go along and the story and the fables and mythology build, a whole array of things will open up. Nothing is going to be static. We may even have new races to discover.
This is going to be up to everyone, though. This your RPG, you build the world.
About your character's parents; that can happen but what you want to remember is that the races aren't friendly with each other yet so a half-race mixture would probably bring a lot of judgment and prejudice to your character and you probably wouldn't climb too high on the social ladder but...I don't really care if you want to have a political knight at all but you may want an interesting story for his background in that light. (Maybe no one knows he's kayorin?) Up to you. Do whatever you want with it.
Anyone is free to join at anytime. Any other questions, fire away.

About your character's parents]

Alright, i sortof already imagined the world to be set in that time period.
This is well put together as it is already, I like it! I already have an idea for my character, not going to be much of a magic user could i perhaps switch your weapon/magic system for me. You said 2 weapons to 4 magic spells. What if I was 4 weapons to 2 magic spells since I am a Valira? just a thought.

I won't have my character use much magic, so don't worry about me changing your idea's. Actually leaning on him only using potions.

I will write something up and see if I would want to role with the idea.
Thanks again!

I don't mind having a lot of weapons so long as there is a kind of balance somewhere. For instance, let's say you're very proficient with a sword and daggers but you also have a bow and a staff. Why, I don't know but let's just say you're cautious and OCD about always having back-ups. A normal person probably wouldn't be a rockstar with ALL of those. You would need to lean more on those two main weapons and be a little more vulnerable with the others.
I say this because I don't want any one character being dwarfed by another. I'm not trying to be a control freak but I do want this to be equally fun for everyone so that everyone is the star of the RPG in their own sense.
So just keep that in mind.
Does that seem fair?

More then fair!

That's what Jak would be like. Two mains and one well, backup that sortof would get him in more trouble.
Sword and Dagger thats all, I would give him anyway, and his bow is at home! lol.

Profile Criteria:

Name: Jak

Race:
Valira

Approx. Age:
25

Appearance:
Black Hair, medium length and spiky with a bandanna keeping it from his face. Green eyes, Jak wears a cap (brown inside) (red outside) wrapped around his shoulders, and a metal plate strapped across his his left breast. Underneath that he wears a tunic of blue and trimmed in gold, with two flaps that fall lower then the rest in the back. It also extends to his jaw line with extravagant collar showing his nobility. The tunic is also short sleeved bearing his elbow to his wrist. His hands are covered by metal gauntlets, shiny chrome like his one sided breast plate. His pants that were once white, look light brown. His chins are protected by metal boots, which are covered by a black leather boot, and the only metal you can see is where his toes are. To Valira he would be seen as a Quick knight, with less armor then others. Jak also lost his brother at a very young age, making youth a hard topic for him.

Background: Courageous and Brave. Jak would never stand down if aiding a firend. He often travels outside of Coren for adventure. Before he could remember Jak was put into the training yards of weapon mastery. There he was able to learn to defend, protect, and attack. His father Ark, was once a High Knight and Protector of Coren in his younger years, now owns a small windmill, and jokes how he wished he were Aelira and owned his windmill and the grains he grew. (Since they use wind) His mother, Jil, a kayorin stopped practicing anything of magic when meeting Ark, making it impossible for her to teach anything to young Jak. He is extremely intelligent military wise. He has no quarrel with any other races, and finds it interesting to meet them.

Abilities: While training, Jak, was very creative with his sword. Sword master level.
Sword Ability: Skyward - Jak, positions himself by sliding in front or behind the enemy, then slashing upward with all his might, sending them into the air simultaneously he jumps into the air following his victim at this point, giving several more slashing's up down across right across left, then with his weight and momentum downward as he goes downward as well.

With his bow, he can shoot anything 12 ft. by 12ft. and 3 inches in front of him.....(Yeah, hopefully he doesn't get his sword knocked away.

Equipment:
Two-Handed Sword strapped to his back, golden hilt that fans out in sharp edges with a black steel like blade. In the middle of the golden hilt is a red gem that has potential and well wanted from magicians and wizards. One dagger that hangs from his belt, its holstered in a dark brown sheath. His bow, not sure where he put it, must be home.

Also, do we have some sort of enemy that is trying to stop peace and rule the young world?
Like the DarkForces or something?
Cookie cutter soilders that attack? All wearing black or something with something tatoo'd on them? lol just popping ideas at you, thats all.

Thanks!

That'll work for a map since it's all one continent.

Beyal is farthest to the north, Ilosia would be in the ocean probably closer to the south, Undassa is in the west, Coren is kinda central to everything, and...wow, I didn't name the Aeliran nation. Uh, well, their cities spread across the east.

I'll be back later with a list of all the NPC's introduced thus far and their descriptions. Make it a little easier to keep up with.

Awesome, take your time. If you want, I will put in names of the Nations if you wanted me to on that map I gave you. I just made it since, gimp can generate those things in a matter of 10 seconds. And somehow they all lined up completely. Well almost, perhaps I will put them all on one file or something.

So, just tell me what you want to do!

OOooo~ Wow a map! o.o Someone's getting into this already...which is a good thing! :DD

Anyway! I have finally sucuumbed to my desire to try out this rp ever since it was first posted, as in Danyasaur told me about it. If I'm accepted, one of my characters will be her character's fiance cause...well it'd be awkward for her to have conversations with herself all the time. XD
But I'm sorry I haven't posted here sooner! I've been busy also since I've decided and I don't really have my character(s) down yet. So if me joining won't make too many people, I'm interested! :D
