Hi, everyone. Ben Avery here. I just registered.
Let's see, I'm a former English teacher, but I'm currently working as a comic book and animation writer (comic books: Marvel's The Hedge Knight, two of the Zondervan series, some small press stuff; animation: a PBS series you've probably never heard of and my main day job that supports my family with insurance and junk is adapting a fantasy comic of mine into an animated feature).
Um, currently reading: Seikai Trilogy, Satsuma Gishiden, and re-reading Nausica.
Currently looking for Samurai Commando v. 2.
Currently watching: Escaflowne
Favorite anime: Gatchaman and Robotech. (Sorry.)
Favorite manga: Planetes, Pretear (don't know why -- it was charming, I guess), Lone Wolf and Cub & Samurai Executioner (but HATE Crying Freeman), Tezuka's Adolf & Barefoot Gen (got me into manga), Nausicaa . . . I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
Um, I'm a father of four. I love C.S. Lewis.
That's about it!
~ Ben

Hello and a very warm welcome to you, Ben. I hope you enjoy it here. ^_^
Though, I'm curious now, what PBS series have you worked on? You don't have to say, but I was just thinking that I might have heard of it, I watched too much PBS for my own good sometimes. XD;
See you around the boards!

I worked on Auto-B-Good.
It was a "character building" series that had 80% coverage of the U.S. markets. Unfortunately, my PBS station was one of the 20% that didn't carry it!!!
I sold them a couple story ideas and I only scripted one episode for them. (That episode is on the newest DVD release, though, available at Family Bookstores.) They then had me work on some comic books based on the series. I now work for them full time, although not on Auto-B-Good.
BTW -- Auto-B-Good was in production and on the air BEFORE Disney's Cars. Unfortunately, when Cars came out, Auto-B-Good was assumed to be a rip off of the Disney movie!

Punished is not the man himself, but the evil that resides in him.
Welcome aboard Ben. We could always use another C.S. Lewis fan.

Heh, yeah. I'm actually working on a project called "Music of the Spheres" that uses a TON of information culled from Lewis' "Discarded Image". I have to be careful, though, because both Lewis and Tolkien ALSO used some of those ideas.
(Discarded Image is about the literature during the pre-Copernican times, when the earth was the center of the universe.

Oh I forgot to mention another currently watching:
Panda Z.
I'm really enjoying it.
More than I should . . . perhaps . . .

Yeah, I haven't seen the anime (I believe I've heard mention of an anime), but I loved the manga. At first, I bought it just because I had a project that seemed similar (a follow up to Lullaby), but there were two bonuses:
1. Nothing like my project.
2. It was a lot of fun! So I got 2-4!

Welcome, welcome! Gives Ben some chocolates for him & his family.
Another Pretear & C.S. Lewis fan, eh? Ditto, I liked the manga too. A few weird parts, but overall message was nice.
Do you just do scriptwriting or are you involved in any other aspects of production as well? Family & I work in media too.

SIGN MY SPACE TRILOGY MOVIE PETITION - er - I mean, welcome to CAA! ^___^ In case you couldn't already tell, I'm a slightly obssessive Lewis fan myself (not to mention a fan of Nausicaa and Pretear).
And hey! I've seen ads for Auto-B-Good in a Jeep catalog! Looked a lot like Veggie Tales. You worked on it? Wow. I'm impressed. O___O Ahem... *Hands movie contract for Space Trilogy* XD
Enjoy your stay,
Temulin

AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHH!!!!!! Now that theme song is playing in my head AGAIN!!!!!!!!
"Gatchaman.... Gatchaman....."
Be sure to hang out in the Manga and Anime recommendation threads, Ben. We need all the help we can get. Some of these kids have yet to discover that there's really good stuff older than "Naruto" and "FMA"
BTW, "Seikai" .... are you reading the Manga or the Light Novel? Because the manga's okay, but the Light Novel rocks.

Sure thing. Of course, with the new Gatchaman movie coming, we may be looking at a brand new day of science ninja AWESOME!!!
(Hey . . . "Science Ninja Awesome" . . . sounds like a cool series.)

I haven't read the novel. Just the manga.

Yeah, it was a lot like Veggie Tales in some ways. Only with cars. 3D animation, positive values, Christian production team, etc. There were a lot of differences, too.
Space trilogy movie?
I've always thought Till We Have Faces would make a GREAT manga. So would the Space Trilogy.
The Lewis estate, however, seems to be not too enthusiastic about comics. (We've tried.) (And will try again.
)

Naruto isn't that bad u_u You just have to really watch it and try to catch the themes behind it
I'll admit, I haven't been watching it as of late ^ ^; Well, I did take a little peek last Saturday and it wasn't that bad. One of my favorite voice actresses was on there (her voice I mean)
As for FMA, that one can be pretty deep as well. There's a HUGE message in that one. Although, I heard it's totally different from the manga o.o I wonder if it as the same message O.o
Awww, cute avy. Is that Mucha Lucha.. or was it Lucha Mucha ^ ^;

Welcome to the forums. First jaems and now you... Christiancomics.net is invading.
Also, I've merged your posts. If you want to respond to multiple people, the easiest way is to use the Multiquote button (just to the right of the normal one). Or you could memorize the code, which is vBulletin standard.
