1,016 posts'll have to do, apparently I was asleep when I hit 1,000

In commemoration of my 1,016th post, here are a few little facts about me.

-I like the Twilight Zone, though I have only seen about seven episodes.
-I like American cartoons and comics just as well as Japanese ones.
-I have a LiveJournal. But no myspace.
-My favorite anime at the moment is Boogiepop Phantom, though Giant Robo will be stealing its spot relatively soon, for about the 15th time.
-I just recently purchased Le Portrait de Petite Cossette and was blown away.
-I like vampires.
-I'm working on a comic with some friends about vampires. It's gonna take forever, but it's gonna rock.
-My favorite actors are Gerard Depardieu, John Malcovich, Gabriel Byrne, and Jeremy Irons. Ironically I have not seen Man in the Iron Mask.
-Michael Wincott is my other favorite actor.
-V for Vendetta the comic and V for Vendetta the movie are BOTH good.
-I haven't purchased or burned any new music in about 6 months.
-I draw Greek gods in my astronomy notes.
-I'm an aspiring writer who intends to write many novels, and quite a few comics as well. I also draw. I also want to paint some more.
-My commemorative piece for my art class this semester will be an homage to Kohta Hirano and Tim Burton.
-Soylent Green is people.
-I like blackberries.
-I do not own an MP3 player.
-I still run on 56k.
-Cingular sucks.
-Lawrence of Arabia is the best film ever made. It achieved this despite not having any romance in it. Or women, for that matter.
-Metallica makes good background music. So do Lord of the Rings installments.
-I've been a Christian for 14 1/2 years now.
-My best friend is he whose appelation is Joshua Christopher.
-I need to start writing my novel again. Still stuck on chapter one. Finished prologue, though.
-My dog is cuter than yours.
-Probably stinkier, too.
-My mouth twitches when I'm thinking.
-I still have to wear retainers.
-I go to college.
-Really, I should have just said that, and it would have explained anything.

Ask a question, any question!

Dogs make good Vietnamese, cats Chinese. (j/k)

Depends on what I'm wearing. (My cat is white and my dog is black.) No, seriously, it doesn't matter. I'd rather have a bird or a snake.

mitsuki lover wrote:My dog's dead so there!

Ah, so it IS stinkier than mine! Mine's still cuter though.

A discussion that I started, no less.

On CAA or in real life? This seems to imply the latter.

Yes, it's about as traumatic as hearing that Vader is Luke's father.

Hmmmm. Only now do I notice this...

10 questions:

(1.) Would you ever dare attempt to eat that questionable South African delicacy that floats by on the accurately discriptive name of 'mopani worms'?

(2.) How about that other questionable South African delicacy, biltong, which basically is a type of jerky?

(3.) Or howabout bôkkoms, another SA delicacy best described as fish jerky?

Okay, enough with the gross food questions.

(4.) What languages other than English can you speak, and what languages would you love to learn?

(5.) What countries have you visited and what would you like to visit?

(6.) Did the Boots get away with the murder of the Baker simply because their comrades assumed the latter met a Boojum?

(7.) Vegetable, animal or mineral?

(8.) Are you going to destroy me any second now? Any second now? Any second now....?

(9.) What do you consider to be the best opening paragraph ever written for a book?

(10.) Would you have gone to the cinema to see Terry Gilliam's The Man who Killed Don Quixote if it hadn't folded after five days of shooting?

bigsleepj wrote:(1.) Would you ever dare attempt to eat that questionable South African delicacy that floats by on the accurately discriptive name of 'mopani worms'?

It can't hardly be as bad as blood stew, which I refuse to eat. As long as it's not alive, I suppose.

(2.) How about that other questionable South African delicacy, biltong, which basically is a type of jerky?

I like jerky. Is it elephant jerky?

(3.) Or howabout bôkkoms, another SA delicacy best described as fish jerky?

I eat dried squid.

Okay, enough with the gross food questions.

Thank you.

(4.) What languages other than English can you speak, and what languages would you love to learn?

English and bad English. No, I know a smidgen of pidgin Ilocano, food items in Spanish, and rudimentary American Sign Language. I'd like to learn Italian, German, and Romanian.

(5.) What countries have you visited and what would you like to visit?

I've been to Canada, the Philippines, and a few random states. I'd like to tour europe someday, maybe New Zealand/Australia, maybe Africa. Also the Middle East so I could stir up trouble.

(6.) Did the Boots get away with the murder of the Baker simply because their comrades assumed the latter met a Boojum?

Woohoo! Bowel movement.

(7.) Vegetable, animal or mineral?

Extraterrestrial.

(8.) Are you going to destroy me any second now? Any second now? Any second now....?

Any second now.

(9.) What do you consider to be the best opening paragraph ever written for a book?

Probably the opening to Stephen R. Lawhead's Empyrion.

(10.) Would you have gone to the cinema to see Terry Gilliam's The Man who Killed Don Quixote if it hadn't folded after five days of shooting?

I wasn't aware he attempted to make a movie by that name. If it was better than Brothers Grimm, I probably would.

Gouda. 'cause I'm DARN gouda.

I'd really have to say my friend Josh. Also, God's been teaching me things through people I meet, things that happen to me everyday.
Are you shepherding anybody now?

Not that I know of, but I might be indirectly.

Yes.

I'm not sure, but I've been in Maryland during the mid-fall and early spring months. DC mostly. Go to the International Spy Museum. May I ask what prompted this question?

Well, they're dried, so I suppose they'd be crunchy. No, I never ate them myself.

SirThinks2Much wrote:I like jerky. Is it elephant jerky?

No, just normal beef. Elephants are an endangered species. However the process of preparing biltong is different which makes it distinct - here's what the Wikipedia says.

Biltong is distinct from jerky in being air-dried rather than smoked or heated. It is typically dried out in the cold night air (rural settings), dry boxes (urban) or refrigerated chill rooms (commercial). A variation of biltong is droë wors (lit. "dried sausage" ), thin strings of sausage dried in the same manner and similar to cabanossi.

The sad demise of the movie was well documented in a movie called Lost in La Mancha . Johnny Depp had a roll.

Oh deary dear. I suggest you go read "The Hunting of the Snark" by Lewis Carrol as quickly as possible! Get thee to a library or just click here!. The Hunting of the Snark is "an agony in eight fits", a mock-epic poem filled with the most bizarre poetry you'll ever find. The ending though is murky, bleak, and the meaning of the poem (if, indeed, it has one) is opaque as well. Enjoy.

Well, I do have a review here...as for "how it develops," I don't know how exactly to state that...how I like to view it is as a selection of standalone tales, that all intersect, rather than as one streamlined narrative. So yes, it does form a coherent whole. I still needed a bit of help figuring it all out though.
Have you seen Cyrano de Bergerac with Gerard Depardieu? Or for that matter, have you read the play?

No, and no. However I have seen Jean de Floret (and its sequel) and 1492: Conquest of Paradise, both of which star Gerard Depardieu. I think he was in the 1970's Three Musketeers, as well, but I don't remember who he played.

I'm going to a community college in California, and transferring to a university this fall, provided they stop being such *beep* and let me in without trying to get me to pay outrageous fees I already paid. And I'm studying art.

Ah, another Samurai Jack fan. Those seem to be a bit rare. When I first saw the show (one of the episode with the Irish guy) I was convinced it was a joke. But after watching a few more episodes (especially the first two) it began to grow on me. It is a terrible shame that it will never receive a proper ending.

Oh, and that Anakin kid? He turns out to be Darth Vader. There, now you have no reason to watch the second trilogy either.

Haha, I like those episodes (he's a Scotsman, by the way). Man, that show's got some really epic episodes--the first two, like you mentioned, and the one with Jack fighting with the Spartans (I could watch that all day). What are your favorite episodes?

I have the first 2 seasons on DVD 8D

Some more questions. :)

1.) Book-loving aside, what books would you really want to set fire too, and for what reason?

2.) What movies would you love to see dissapear into a space-time wormhole?

3.) Your thoughts on Milos Foreman's Amadeus?

4.) From what is your current avatar?

5.) What do you get when you travel through space?

Okay, that's all for now. :)

Generally speaking I like the earlier ones better. Later on I felt that the series dragged a bit (or became slightly too episodic). Now, I've only seen Samurai Jack at random times, so I am having trouble remembering specific episodes. Two come to mind:

The one in which Jack meets the monkey creatures that have enslaved the bigger, docile looking creatures. I just liked the fact that it was unclear which creatures were good and which were evil.

Also the one in which Jack teams up with (but first fights) the two monks. Spinning! Really, I was impressed by those fight sequences; they had actual coreography.

bigsleepj wrote:1.) Book-loving aside, what books would you really want to set fire too, and for what reason?

The DaVinci code. For obvious reasons.
2.) What movies would you love to see dissapear into a space-time wormhole?

The Stuntman. Curse Leonard Maltin for giving it four stars.
3.) Your thoughts on Milos Foreman's Amadeus?

Quite honestly, one of my all-time favorite movies. I don't care that it's not accurate, it was based off a play based off of a rumour. I love the costumes...and the music...and the acting was great. I can quote the Emperor's "too many notes" line. And let's hear it for the Mozart laugh!
4.) From what is your current avatar?
The anime Samurai 7, the character being the leader of said samurai, Kambei.
5.) What do you get when you travel through space?

Bored. Wanna trade socks?

I like the earlier ones better myself. The Woolie episode was excellent, and I was cracking up at the Chritchelites (the little blue guys, all with the same voice). I don't think I've seen the two monk one.

The first episode I ever saw was "Jack and the Baby". I loved it because of the total Lone Wolf and Cub homage, and it got me hooked on the series.

If you could exchange your body for a mechanical samurai body, would you do it?

Would you be intrigued by the concept of a phone with an A.I. in it that could take calls for you?

Would you drink something that would give you wings, if it meant that you'd lose your arms in exchange?

Do you believe that it would be alright for a human to marry a space alien?

What is your favourite flavour of Pocky?

Have you ever beaten nethack?
