My official hello

Some of you know me already, I've been here for about a week. Whenever in a new place, I usually don't come out with a big hello right off the bat, I lay low and listen to the people. But in this case there were few discussions I felt passionately about and just threw my opinions in there (getting warned several times)
I am a born and raised Christian, attending many different churches. My last church I attended for several years was an Assemblies of God. The pastor changed along with most of the staff and with that, people left along with it's style I loved so much. So I've been keeping an eye out for a new church in my area.
I have studied many other religions, including mostly Catholicism, Judaism, and a little of Hinduism, Islam and other eastern religions.
Taken classes and attended different churches with friends. Even my Mormon friends

After studying the world around me, I began to use logic with my beliefs. One must understand that many things written thousands of years ago do not apply to today. The technology of then is not what it is today. No, I'm not saying that the Bible is wrong. I'm saying some things said I feel don't apply as much as they did back then. Remember, MAN wrote everything. Yes, God spoke to them; But then there's man's fallible interpretation. As Chris Rock once put it "Don't eat red meat? No, Don't eat GREEN meat."
If you haven't noticed from other posts, I'm a sarcastic person. I channel many emotional feelings into comedy (sometimes good thing/sometimes not) Best thing to do is don't take it personally.
I love arguements/debates/discussions. (Think of the Penny Arcade strip where they discuss the Matrix Gatorade commercial; that's like me) Everyone thinks an arguement is so bad. Why? Two people can discuss a controversial issue in a calm manner without flaming each other. As long as you LISTEN to the other person and try to UNDERSTAND where they are coming from and they're point of view, you won't become angry because of their different view.
At work the other day, I was discussing Christian beliefs to a non-religious friend. In the middle of conversation another co-worker passed by us and said half-joking "You're not supposed to argue on the set" People automatically assume a debate is a bad thing. He was telling me why he believes one thing, and I was telling why I believe another. We weren't bashing each other for that.
And I know some of you are thinking right now "Speak for yourself, I don't believe the same things as you." I know the differences between my beliefs, and what MOST Christians believe. (such as the cussing issue)
Like I've said before, how can one learn more about oneself if there is no one to test them?
I like the way Fight Club puts it "How much can you know about yourself if you've never been in a fight?"
I think that anyone can argue any point so long as you have facts or valid points to back you up. You may not agree with that person, but if he's got valid points, he has proved his opinion.
Being a film student I watch a lot of movies and I hear lots of different opinions on films. (if you look at the JOBS thread, you'll see what I do)
What pisses me off though, is many people will say they like or dislike something, but they will have no idea why.
Saying "I like it because I like it" works for some things, but not all. Saying "I just don't like it" never is a valid answer in my book. You should always have a reason why you don't like something. That's just a pet peave for me.
So if you are ever trying to argue a point with me, you need to actually know what you are talking about and be able to prove what you're saying.
I can tell you exactly why I hated the Matrix Reloaded and why it is not a good movie (I use that example because it's the most recent movie that everyone loved except me and a select few) If you want to know then Email, PM, IM me and we'll talk.
Lets see, what else? Currently 21, Born in New York, raised in San Diego.
You might be wondering what kind of living environment I was raised in. Growing up, I had two older sisters, a father, and the most loving mother I have ever known. I learned everything I know about Catholicism from her, because she was actually a Nun for 5 years when she turned 18. So Yes, I was raised in a religious household, which is why I wanted to get an understanding of other religions and the world around me.
In conclusion (sounds like I'm writing an essay),
I have strong opinions; best thing to do is to not take them so personally, I try to respect everyone's opinions. When I argue I'm not saying "YOU'RE WRONG!" I'm just trying to show you my point of view and why I see differently.
I like to think of myself as a nice guy, I just get passionate about some issues.
Oh, forgot to add this: (if you already don't know)
I love movies of all genres, used to be a hardcore gamer, and I'm a computer geek. I'm making my way into the film industry and plan on editing movies. In about a year I plan on moving to LA and start off with music videos.
My favorite anime is Neon Genesis Evangelion and I can explain in detail why I love it so much. And if you've seen it and are still confused about what's going on, come to me.
Well that's that. If I think of something I forgot to add, or if you ask, I'll add it.

I do too... but in the proper context. Since OldPhil already gave you the skinny on that, I won't repeat himself. Except to say that there are plenty of other forums out there that are all about debating, and this isn't one of them. One of the great things about CAA is that it stays fun and uplifting and very rarely gets ugly... which is difficult to do with debates going on.
