Hello and a very warm welcome to you, ILurvMusic. I hope you enjoy it here. ^_^
Don't worry about not knowing too much about the forum, everyone starts somewhere. Two things that may help you out is to read the CAA FAQ/Rules here: http://www.christiananime.net/faq.php They also give you a general idea on how to work most of the forum controls.
And, for the less technical issues, this thread here may be beneficial: http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=52132
And if you have any other questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask. ^__^

I believe you are referring to "sigs". It's a bit of text and/or images that appear below every post. If the added text is too long, the sig will have a scrollbar added to it. You can edit yours by following this link.
EDIT: This topic may be helpful as well.
EDIT2: or you could be referring to the buttons
Those are so you can quote a single post (Quote) or multiple posts ("+) in your reply.
