Just saw the opening show at midnight.

It was good, more comical than the first, but also cheesier in some spots.

I disliked the editing in many spots, but I understand their reasoning HOWEVER some spots reminded me too much of the Hulk.

The action scenes rocked, imo. But some of the digital effects could have used more tweeking.

I liked how it ended but also at the same time kinda dissapointed about the little information they gave about the 3rd film (won't spoil anything for anyone)

Any thoughts/comments?

I want to see this movie so bad!

I also caught a midnight showing and I thought it rocked! I don't know if I like the first one for laying the foundation or the second one for truly building on it more. It's so refreshing to me to see a quality sequel. It certainly wasn't an all special effects-no story movie and it definately had some rockin' effects. I couldn't think of a single complaint against it, except maybe more of Spidey's sarcastic one-liners. I did not read the original comic series, but I've heard that's what makes him famous.

And how about the way they opened with the credits? Wasn't that fabulous?

I have not seen it yet, but am dying to. I heard they are made a new way to rate movies instead of a 4 star rating being the best there are know 10 stars. ( or something) anyway spiderman got 10 outa 10. This way it is harder to make a "perfect" movie.

I'm planning on seeing it, merely because I liked the first one, and I have a decent interest in Spiderman...probably due to the fact I was never allowed to watch it as a little kid...

I have yet to see this movie, and I am glad those in this thread spoke about it so vaguely. Most likely I will have somewhat of a commentary after I see the feature, which may or may not occur this weekend.

It's not that I wasn't allowed to watch Spiderman, I just never had the interest. But I have seen (and enjoyed) the first movie so more than likely I will go see the second one. I agree with Ashley that storyline is just as important as special effects but that's what I liked most about the movie (that slow-motion action gets me so excited! ). *ahem* Anyway, I wasn't into Spiderman as much when I was a kid but after seeing the movie (and playing his character in a few video games) he's quickly becoming one of my favorite comic heros.

Saw a 10am showing this morning with some new RL friends of mine... and we all agreed that the new movie rocked! (another sequal this year that outdid the original).

We where talking about the "one-liners" and the lack of them in the 1st movie... according to my one friend (they're all big comic fans, and this one is a big Spidey fan), the one-liners develop in the comic series as Spiderman matures as a character (much as it's been in the movies)...

Unlike the Hulk which had alot of really, really slow points, Spiderman 2 has a good pace. Hulk suffered from the slower parts because they didn't advance the story at an even pace, Spiderman does.... even when the action slows, the story keeps moving on.

Oh, it's also noteable that the casting for these movies have been perfect.... the actors who are playing the parts they are in are perfect fits.

Be interesting to see how 3 turns out when it's released (rumor has it that 3 and 4 are being made at the same time as well).

Not me, I was glued to the TV everyday at 4:00 when Spidey came on; neither earthquake, nor freshly baked cookies could move 2nd grade me from in front of that TV. I’m going to kidnap someone sometimes this weekend and am going to go reclaim my childhood.

I saw it...I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! I have no complaints with it whatsoever. The writing is superb this time around, the plot feels like a "real-life" story (albeit in the life of a superhero) and I thought the characters behaved and acted like real people. There were moments that many people complained were cheesy, but to me they made sense and sounded like what I'd expect normal people to say. In fact, the cheesiest thing about this movie, IMO, was the preview trailer for the new Anacodas movie. I laughed and laughed when I saw it, and I guess I wasn't supposed to. However, there are lots of genuine laughs and in-jokes in the movie. And yes, the action rocked. Much better than the first one and much cooler. There's so much more I could say, but Ebert's review (which you can find here ) expresses up my feelings on this movie very well. And no, thankfully there wasn't that "classic moment" in the end fight where the superhero is nearly dead, but the villain taunts him so much that the hero gives a glare and fights back with renewed vigor (in both the original Spiderman and Daredevil, for instance).

Having said all that, I don't think Spider-Man 3 will be as good as Spider-Man 2. [Spoiler] Many people complained that the Green Goblin's suit looked a bit fake, and since the second Green Goblin will be the villain of the next movie, it will probably also be a disappointment to them. Also, the first Green Goblin was the most menacing. The following ones were never as good. [/Spoiler] Still, here's hoping. And on another side note, [Spoiler] I hope they make Dr. Conners The Lizard in the next movie. [/Spoiler]

Someone mentioned a fourth movie prior in this thread. Fourth movie? As far as I knew, the contract was for three. Though with the movies proving as popular as they are, they might be tempted to make a fourth.

That would be a bad idea. Kirsten Duntz has already said she doesn't want to do more than three movies, and doing more Spider-Man movies without her seems pointless.

I might go see it on wednesday next week! ^v^ I can't wait! I really liked the first movie. I am used to Spiderman. There are some comics lying around the house... I read them again recently. I also used to watch the newer animated show, but I didn't understand much of it!

I saw it the opening night. Naturally I don't have any complaints. It's probably going to be my faveorite movie of the year. I'd say of all time, but I can't betray Star WArs.

So many critics have so much to say about the movie. Most of them say it was as good as the first or better. I would fall in with the latter crowd. Outside of what they have said, I do not have very much more to say, so I will not sing the movie's praises. Instead, I would discuss a few issues.

A brief warning. If you have not seen the movie this spoiler will ruin a great many things for you:

[spoiler=Spider Man 2]One of my few complaints was the partial loss of his powers. There's such a thing as suspension of disbelief, but this seemed far too dodgy for me. On the other hand, it did a relatively good job of making the point.

The following line was classic: "Hey! Spiderman stole that guy's pizza!"

One of the better moments (humor-wise) of the movie was the scene in the elevator. The uncomfortable silence and the element of both of them not looking at each other made it very enjoyable. [Strangely, there was a person in the front of my theater who would cackle extremely loudly at moments that weren't all that funny. When Parker catches the wall that is going to fall on MJ and they greet each other. Amusing, but not that amusing.]

Once again, the character of Jonah Jameson has a brief moment of true character... cut short by blasting hatred against Spiderman. I like the actor playing him; he fits the role well. "He stole my spider suit! He's a threat to the entire city!"

Randomly, I do feel vaguely sorry for the guy that MJ stands up at his wedding. He didn't seem to have anything wrong with him (despite being rich and fameous he appeared to be nice and actually cared about her), yet he just wasn't the protagonist so it wasn't meant to be.

I found the ending unsatisfying for a single movie, though it was acceptable for the second movie of a trilogy. But the final shot of MJ's face put all of it in a very different light, and tainted the waiting for the next movie darkly.

However, I've saved my favorite element of this movie for last: the villain. This aspect was what I felt made the second movie superior to the first. In my opinion, Doc Ock was many times the antagonist that the Green Goblin was. In either of the comic series I never considered Otto to be that great of a villain, but the movie version made him great.

For one, he was decently developed as a good person prior to being controlled by the claws. Speaking of those, the CGI work for them was extremely well done, and they worked quite well. Also, Doc Ock was an intelligent villain (a trait I like well). He made no arrogant speeches, took no stupid risks and always seemed quite aware of Spiderman before he could attack.

Furthermore, I loved his ending, all in all. Whereas the Green Goblin killed himself, Doc Ock was redeemed. It was nice to see him understand immediately ("Peter Parker... brilliant but lazy?") and I appreciated the force of character shown in making the claws submit to him. Though I severely doubt such a thing, it would be nice to see him survive as a hero.[/spoiler]

Also, I must wonder about the third contracted movie. There is a set up for the Hobgoblin, but I would be very disappointed if the third movie did not contain a better villain. Now Venom and the Hobgoblin would be cool.

I mostly agree with what uc said. Of course, Venom is one of the nastier spidey foes unless I'm mistaken, so things might get kinda messy for the little kids who want to watch (like my brother)

Some of the stuff about Doc Ock confused me...
Basically all that crap about him and his tentacles being able to control eachother was really weird, and the instant they showed the little "firewall" on his neck, I'm sure everyone in the theatre knew it was going to break! XD

And like UC said, the loss-of-powers was really weird. When the doctor said it was all in his head, I started laughing in his face, but felt really annoyed when I found out that the dude was right.

I dont remember. Come to think of it.. I dont remember who conners was in the movie.. was that his teacher? On a side note, it would seem stupid if everyone peter knew besides aunt may and mary jane turned into a supervillain

Wow! Seems like a lot of people have already seen the movie. I hope to see it this week.

Venom brings back memories. I have been one who always flipped through/read the spidey comics at comic stores. I really like Venom's character for some reason.

Just wait... Aunt May will become a superhero too. It's a law... once one person becomes a superhero, everyone around them starts as well. You are right; Venom was one of the nastier villains.

I agree about Doc Ock... there was never any question if it would break or not. Personally I didn't find the entire business confusing and rather liked that part.

i went to see it last thursday with a friend after the softball game...after bible study haah it was funny we were both in red shirts since red is our teams color and she was like now they are going to think we are a gang and then some more of our softball team showed up it wasnt that bad of a movie i kind of liked it but it was little too much of a love story for me

I saw it on opening day, I thought it was an awesome movie...a bit phony on some of the visuals in particular during one of the crucial fight scenes between Spidey and Dr. Octopus. To me this one had a better story focusing much more on Peter Parker as a person, those who aren't partial to love stories might not enjoy it as much as the first since there isn't as much action as the first movie.

One of the odd things about the special effects is that the Spiderman suit looks fake even with it isn't a CGI. I am continually generally surprised when I see him put it on at the change. This makes all the actions scenes slightly odd.

After one initially poor section (which I believe may have been mentioned by Zedian) I was a bit worried about the film's overall quality, but both the CGI work and the film itself proved otherwise.

I absolutely loved Spiderman 2. It was much better than the first one (much!).

I liked the ending very much but this is coming from someone who hasn't read the comics yet... I should. I know that Peter/MJ's relationship is very different in the comics. Err ya..

Me again. I still haven't seen it yet (I'm planning to go on Sat.). But is it just me or is the Dr. Octopus character too cool-looking in the movie? I mean I like it but at the same time it's odd because Dr. Octopus is nothing like the Doc Oct in the cartoons (I never read the comics). Doc Oct is suppose to be a nerdy mad scientist type dude, not Neo from the Matrix!

That was pretty much to be expected. Many of the heros looked stupid as well.

Let me assure you that Doc Ock retains his humanity. He's not a mad scientist, but his character comes across very strongly. Even when battling as a villain, that character doesn't entirely go away. Also, though he has a cool trenchcoat and glasses, it isn't like he suddenly gets a muscular, trim figure.
