I hadn't heard about this one...

Amazon.com is out of stock, and it isn't out it my local theaters, so I guess I won't be able to see it right away. :(

Btw, the link at the top of your post doesn't work, if that is what it is supposed to be.

How much time do they give to the resurrection?

The Passion of the Christ was about the violent end because every other movie downplayed it, even though it was very important. The whole reason Jesus came to earth was to die and be resurrected to offer us freedom from our sins.

I'm not saying this movie was bad. I'm just saying that the attention PotC got was deserved. "I become all things that I might reach some for Christ" and some may not be able to handle the violence in PotC. Of course, for those, I think that it's worth showing the "Jesus Film Project" because it has been translated into hundreds of languages, including obscure languages like this one mexican language I can't spell, but I think it has an x in it somewhere (I mean native mexican, not Latino mexican because they all speak spanish)

There are many movies of the Gospel story out there. The Jesus Film project was one of the first meant entirely for world evangelism, and Passion of the Christ was teh first to really show at least the physical side of what Jesus went through on the cross. Does this one offer anything new, other than being on John rather than on one of the synoptic gospels... I suppose that in itself is worthwhile, because John had much more of Jesus time with his inner circle of Disciples. Well, that's good then . I say we bundle them together.

BTW, PotC wasn't "just the Violent conclusion." Every few minutes, it was interrupted by moments from earlier in his ministry (except the scene with Mary and the carpentry thing) Besides, the violent part of that showed Jesus love to us. No greater love has any man than this, that he gives up his life for a friend. And that's what he did. That's the pinnacle of his Love, in his own words.

Is it John word for word, or do they make a movie based off of all the events listed in John?

Concerning Walmart, That is a geocities site (you know homemade, only someone paid the like 10 bucks to get a domain) and I don't put much stock in it. People are upset with Walmart because it takes business from smaller stores, for sure, but other than that it's just sour grapes. I'm sure there were some serious things going on, but the things listed were individual stores, as if that's going to reflect on the whole company... Whatever. Believe what you want.

http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/walmart.asp to show you one of the stories they didn't do backchecking on (and snopes lists all of their sources, so you can look them up yourself)

Also, 4 discs doesn't mean 8 hours of video. It could be 1 hour a disc with 2 discs of extra stuff... Trust me, crappy Christian movies of yore have used that same trick... You'll often find 4 tapes that are each single episodes of some show, so the whole thing amounts to 88 minutes which could have all fit on one tape. Now, that's not necisserily the case with this, but I've seen it way too much to discount.

Of course, it sounds like I'm totally against this movie. I'm not. It's probably a great film, if it goes word for word from John. I guess I just got miffed by the assertion this film = good wheras PotC = bad because it was just the "violent conclusion." The "violent conclusion" was a very important part of the story, that coupled with the resurrection was the MOST important part. The Cross of Jesus (and subsequent resurrection) is what our entire faith rests on. Don't believe me? Read I Corinthians... It is a stumbling block to the Jew and foolishness to the Greek (really, he meant all Gentiles here) but for those in the process of being saved, it is life. It is the cross (meaining the sacrifice of Jesus) that is to be our focal point and model. "Take up your cross and follow me." Be like Him, and we can only do that if we have SOME understanding of what went on.
