Battleship. Yes the game with little plastic pegs. They made a movie. The trailer has finally arrived!!!

Who'd have thunk it? I guess this is what you come up with when you've ran out of every idea twice and already remade everything else... I seriously wanna know who looked at the actual game and thought, "This would make a great movie!!" I mean, it's so sad it's actually hilarious.

Yay, aliens ruin my childhood memories yet again!
Seriously, the whole alien thing is getting overplayed.
I'd just rather play the game with my family then see this. XD
What's next? A family travels around the country to see sites while having to buy properties to make money to continue doing so but somehow land in jail because they didn't have a get out of jail free card? Oh I can see it now "MONOPOLY - The Game of Broken Dreams." Then after that "The Game of Life!" XDD

I have an idea: No one see this movie. That way, Hollywood won't make any more movies out of board games.

I thought a Monopoly movie was in the works...

I'm not sure how this relates to the game with pegs but it's an awful idea. The action looks decent though. No, I'm not going to see the movie.

I wanted it to be a joke when I heard this movie was made... but alas...

This looks terrible and not in a good way.

This looks awful. It is pretty funny that the alien ship shot out pegs, though. I wonder if they will bother explaining why the US suddenly decided to use a battleship again?
It's unfortunate, really. Even movies based on board games can be great:

Awww, the aliens only want to play a game. What's so bad about that?
Except they were cheating because THEY could see where the ships were, but the humans can't. :<
Looks like a run of the mill story, though. So that's sad. I'm going to go play Battleship now.
Am I the only one who thinks Monopoly would actually make a good movie (if they played their cards right, so to speak)?

An adaptation of Clue (or Cluedo as we call it) makes a certain amount of sense since the game is structured to have something resembling a narrative (find the murderer by eliminating the suspects). This is just a bit of a STRETCH.

But thank goodness it's not a movie about checkers, yahtzee, scrabble, etc. I mean what kind of story would those have?
However, I think Risk might be a good idea for one considering it's about taking over the world! Almost reminiscent of Pinky and the Brain. XD

I might see this just for the lolz. I-it didn't look that bad to me though.

Lol, a movie about scrabble would be awful. "ONE MAN'S LIFE DEPENDS ON HIS ABILITY TO USE ALL SEVEN LETTERS! DOES QA REALLY COUNT AS A WORD!? TRIPLE WORD SCORE!!!!"

Connect Four the MovieNot captioned, so I have very little idea of what the characters are saying in the trailer.

Lol. I actually, I have this strange feeling a Connect Four movie would somehow be a spy thriller.
It makes as much sense as Battleship = Aliens.
When I first heard of this adaptation, I thought it was a joke. When I realized it wasn't, I thought it'd be a taught cat-and-mouse naval drama.
And then I saw the word "aliens." The darkest corner of my room has never been so damp with tears before.

Now all of my friends will revert from quoting "Release the Krakken" to "You sunk my battleship." Seriously. I hope they somehow work that quote into the movie. It would be delightfully awful.

There is so many things wrong with this movie I don't even know where to begin.
No 1: A movie about Battleship. Really? Board games don't exactly have a plot. The only reason the Clue movie was so good was due to the fact that it was a campy comedy and it had a slight outline of a narative. Battleship is just about a couple of ships blindly firing at each other.
No 2: The alien invasion genre is really a dead horse at this point. It's been done so many times and so horribly that I doubt a movie like this can revive the genre.
No 3: Another dumb military love interest where the military dad doesn't like the Ace. We've seen this a million times. It's dumb, it's not original in the least. In fact, I'm sick and tired of Hollywood action movies throwing in dumb love stories period! You might as well replace all the love scenes with scenes of a dude getting kicked in the groin and it would still be better than Hollywood action love stories.
Romance is great and all, but only when it's done well, like in Spice and Wolf for example.
Hopefully this movie will be one of those so bad it's good movies.

Actually, I don't think the problem is that they are starting with Battleship. I think the problem is that the only way to make money on innately expensive properties is to make it a big, dumb retread of an action movie.
Without being forced into this corner, I think that a good movie could have been made. After all, there are two elements in the boardgame:
1) Battleships
2) Blindfire
That's it. With so few forced elements, you would think that it would lend itself to a lot of creativity.
It could have possibly made for a really great thriller, actually, if the battleship was trying to fend off the unseen enemy submarine.
EDIT: Of course, there's also the issue that this is basically just one giant two hour commercial for a family boardgame... that people will pay to see.

WHY!!??? Hollywood why are you doing this to us man you used to be cool. Call up Jesse Ventura because I think I have a real conspiracy theory, Hollywood wants to turn the planet into complete idiots! (which seems to be working I might add) think about it, it all adds up Micheal Bay, Nic Cages career, They Gave Aaron Seltzer and Jason Freidberg Jobs every year!!! I'll try to stick to older movies from now on, imagine all the Classic films I haven't seen yet!

Will Smith: "We tried that but these bricks won't stop coming"!!

I'm honestly disappointed. XDD When I heard they were making a Battleship movie, I kind of thought it was a joke. XD Or at least, I thought it'd be
something like this. XD
This just looks
so bad though. XD Also, I feel like Liam Neeson is a great actor who keeps taking the most terrible roles. XD Either way, if they want to make movies out of games, then they should make a film version of Chip's Challenge. I would totally watch that. XDD

Radical, it feels like your level of XDness is increasing with each post. I approve.
I feel the same way about Neeson. The dude is such a fantastic actor but he gets involved in so many crappy movies, it's insane. You'd think he'd be a little pickier after being in the business for so long.

They couldn't even make a decent episode of King of the Hill with that premise. Granted it was mostly about Peggy, who I can't stand, but still.

Hey, no giving KOTH a bad rap. It's a good show and that episode was just fine.
