Weakest/Strongest

Every tv show (save one that is exceptionally brilliant) has some regular characters who are stronger, and some who are weak. I'm talking about personality, screen presence, and likability. So pick a tv show or two or five and tell me who you thought the strongest regular or recurring character, and who you thought was the weakest.

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Strongest: With Sir Patrick Stewart in the lead, it's pretty obvious who your strongest character's going to be. But I also think Data and Worf were strong, interesting characters. If an episode was Data or Worf-centric you knew it was going to be fascinating and thought-provoking.

Weakest: Again, this one's a shoe-in. Everybody hated Wesley Crusher. Honestly, I didn't mind him that much, but he is quite a weak character. The only episode I really liked that featured him prominently was the one where his teammate at the Academy is killed in an accident. But that episode doesn't shine because of Wesley; it shines because of Picard. Patrick Stewart is possibly the only person who can deliver a full-blown sermon on a sci-fi show and not seem totally disingenuous and irritating while doing it. XD
I also think Troi deserves an honorable mention for being a weak, irritating character.

I have more, but I don't want to tl;dr you guys. What comes to mind for you guys?

Firefly? Because there are no weak characters in that show.

No, I'm mostly kidding. XD Kate's not the weakest character as far as writing goes, she's just a little obnoxious. XD

Anyways, seriously weakest:

There are more, but that's all I'll do for now. XD

Is that Sawyer?

Also, Firefly is the only TV show I've completed so I can't do that one.

Since Yuki did Next Gen, I'll do classic. Remember, this is my opinion.
Strongest: Gotta be Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.
Weakest: Chekov. It seems at times the writers had no idea what to do with him, other than "let's make him think the Russians are so awesome". Also Nurse Chapel. They really didn't give her much to do most of the time.

I've been wanting to watch some M*A*S*H reruns lately (alas, no cable!), so here goes:

Strongest: Hawkeye - I considered Wincester for a moment, since there are terrific episodes which reveal the depth of his character, but, c'mon, Hawkeye gets most of the screen time and we become most intimate with him. Alan Alda led one of the great casts in television history, and he was great at drama, and amazing with humor.

Weakest: Trapper John - I liked Trapper John, but he wasn't on the show long enough, I think, to be differentiated from Hawkeye very much. And as his screen time decreased, his development worsened, despite Wayne Rogers doing a great job. Nonetheless, still a terrific character...just less so than others.

Star Trek: Voyager

Strongest: By far, the Doctor. Robert Picardo brought life to the character, and despite his namelessness, he left the strongest impression. He was passionate, articulate, unpredictable, and hilarious. Tuvac was also a fairly strong character at times. They used him to explore the depth of Vulcan culture and emotion, far more than they had with Spock, and far better than they later did with T'Pol. Tim Russ was a good enough actor to carry on the Vulcan legacy.

Weakest: Harry Kim, despite the fact that he was my childhood crush. I mean, really, what is there to say? He wasn't written well, and he wasn't played well most of the time. He was the ship's boy scout, which made him fairly uninteresting to begin with, and when he did have interesting storylines they were ruined by subpar acting. There are other characters that were just irritating, like Neelix, but Harry Kim is just a weak character. Though Kes was on par with him in terms of weakness. Possibly weaker. Kim has the advantage of being an item of fond nostalgia for me. But I never really liked Kes.
