Chris Nolan admits, he's directing Batman 3

Blastr wrote:Everyone's always assumed Christopher Nolan would be back to direct Batman 3, but the man himself has been cagey about it pretty much since completing The Dark Knight back in 2008. Well, we can at last breathe a sigh of relief: Nolan confirmed that he will in fact be getting behind the camera for his third go-round with the Caped Crusader.

Of course, he wouldn't say it straight out at first, telling Empire, "It's becoming inevitable, I'll put it that way. I feel myself falling into it, I guess. And getting it all figured out and I'm pretty excited about what we're doing, so ... If I haven't announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that I'm doing it."

When asked if we could take that to mean he's officially, really, truly directing the thing, Nolan replied, "I think you can at this point, yes."

The director also confirmed that he is currently working on his own draft of the script, which has been written by his brother Jonathan.

No word, of course, on villains, plot, or anything like that, but apparently Michael Caine told BBC Radio 1 that he's been hearing about a May 2011 start date for production and that he assumes he'll be back as Alfred Pennyworth. Batman 3, or whatever they end up calling it, is scheduled to arrive on July 20, 2012.

Let the speculation begin!

Ed Norton in Batman 3? The actor 'would not say no' to a role

Blastr wrote:Edward Norton may no longer be playing the Hulk—the baton having been passed to Mark Ruffalo for The Avengers—but he could soon be channeling a DC Comics character instead. Because Norton has revealed that he'd love to play a role in Christopher Nolan's upcoming (and untitled) third Batman movie.

Speaking to IGN, the actor first mentioned that he had no hard feelings regarding his split with Marvel, that he loved playing Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk and that he was ultimately more interested in playing something he hadn't done before.

Does that mean ruling out superhero movies? Not so according to Norton, who, despite the debacle with Marvel, doesn't seem put off in the least from making more superhero movies. The actor even showed a particular interest and admiration for director Chris Nolan's work on the Batman films.

"Chris Nolan's making the best ones out there by far.'' Norton said. ''I'd do one with him. He's set a new bar for sure, and I think he's done a great, great job."

Asked whether he would consider playing a villain in Batman 3, Norton's reply was: "That would be fun. I would not say no to that."

The one role that comes to mind is of course that of the Riddler, who's rumored to make his appearance in the next film. When asked whether he would play THAT specific role, Edward Norton apparently smiled and replied: "Your guys can put their votes in on that."

Norton as the Riddler? That could be interesting. But with both Norton and Christian Bale's track records regarding their, let's just say intensity on certain movie sets, the two of them working together would either make for an intense movie or turn into a disaster.

XD I pretty much always assumed that he would direct the third Batman movie; my question was always whether or not he would choose to make it at all. XD But Ed Norton? And possibly as the Riddler? I would be so down with that. XD

Hmmmm, I haven't seen alot of movies with Norton in them. I can't wait for te next Batman film, though. Nolan is such a good director!

3rd movies in trilogies rarely measure up to the second, because the second is the climax, and the third is the denouement. I think there may be some backlash with this movie, just thinking ahead.

I'm not too sure about that. The Batman movies haven't really been telling a continuous story. You could pretty easily watch The Dark Knight before Batman Begins and still understand what's going on, even if you only had a slight idea of who Batman is. XD

Also, in a good trilogy, each movie should have its own exposition through denouement, and the climax of the overarching story really ought to happen in the third movie, while there should be smaller climaxes in the first and second installments. A third movie should never be just the falling action and denouement. XD I'm not sure which movies you have in mind where the third film doesn't have a proper climax, but all the major ones I can think of (Star Wars OT, LOTR, etc.) all have the major climax of the overarching story in the third movie. XD

American History X is good, if unsettling (if you have the guts to sit through it!). You might also want to try The Illusionist, a good movie overshadowed by the similarly themed The Prestige. He's also pretty good in Fight Club (though I'm not a fan of the movie itself) and he's also very good in Spike Lee's The 25th Hour.

Morgan Freeman on Batman 3 villains: There may be more than one

How can Batman 3 possibly top The Dark Knight? One of the deciding factors will surely be the choice of villain ... or should that be villains? Because as we all debate which bad guy director Christopher Nolan should choose, Morgan Freeman just hinted that Nolan may end up choosing more than one.

Freeman, who played Bruce Wayne's armorer and technical genius Lucius Fox in the previous films, has been talking up bringing back Catwoman, and when asked recently if Nolan was on board with that idea, he said:

"Well, yes and no. But I don't know if that's going to be his choice. There's been talk of the Riddler, talk of the Joker—I don't mean the Joker—the Penguin. Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin, and that sounds interesting to me. So we'll wait and see. And there just may be more than one."

We definitely need THREE major villains who have little or nothing to do with each other. Also, if Batman gets possessed by some alien and starts doing ridiculous dances in the middle of the sidewalk, it will be cinematic gold. I'm voting eyeliner for Christian Bale! Heck yes!

I vote for The Riddler, Harley Quinn and Black Mask (never heard of the latter before but having read up on him, he seems pretty interesting).

Yeah, because we all know how great superhero movies are when they cram in as many villains as they can! That's why Spider-Man 3 was the best Spider-Man movie ever! It's also why Batman and Robin was the best Batman movie ever! And why the...okay I can't keep up this sarcasm, it's just too much.

I'm telling you... emo hair for Christian Bale! Really fake-looking crying that looks a bit more like constipation than anything else! Topher Grace as a villain! You know it would make a great movie.

Again, this isn't surprising. Both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight had multiple villains.

Yeah, he didn't say "as many villains as possible," he said "more than one." XD The Dark Knight, which was a fantastic movie, handled both the Joker and Two-Face rather well, same with Batman Begins's Falcone, Ra's al Gul, and Scarecrow. If this third installment were to feature, say, Catwoman and the Riddler, I will do nothing but get stoked. XD

Yes, Nate. Three would be too many. Two is a good number. Please let it be Harley Quinn!

I still say The Penguin should have a role. That way it could be a whole "battle of the multi-million dollar pimps" thing going on. XD But Edward Norton is baller.

Am I the only one that thinks The Dark Knight left a lot of threads hanging loose that they should probably tie up? I know the series doesn't exactly have tight continuity, but I would actually like to see them bring back Two-Face rather than bring in someone entirely new. I care about the story, not about seeing how many villains they can cram in just for the hell of it.

I was under the impression that Two-Face died, actually...I wouldn't be surprised if they started off the third movie with Harvey Dent's funeral. But that's just what I was assuming from the way TDK ended. XD

You know you could put "I hate 3D movies and love people who hate them" in your signature and save yourself at least a post per movie thread.

But I don't hate 3D movies. The Muppets in 3D or whatever it was called at MGM Studios was amazing. Also there was some Three Stooges stuff in 3D that was fantastic.

I just read about this! I'm interested to see who the new villain will be, now that it isn't the Riddler! I'm hoping for Catwoman. XD Not sure what I think of the title, but I'll hold off on judgment there until I see if it fits the plot. XD

Casting and villain update!

Anne Hathaway is Selina Kyle, Tom Hardy is Bane.

I am excited for Bane, but impartial to Hathaway as Selina Kyle. We'll see how that works out.

I'm trying to figure out what to think of Anne Hathaway in that role. XD She's not my favorite actress, but I know that she's talented. Here's hoping that she pulls off a performance that doesn't have me thinking "she's still that girl from The Princess Diaries" at the end of the movie. XD
