I just went to see Iron Man today and before the movie started some advertisements were being shown. Apparently some local movie theaters are going to be showing the Death Note movie for a few days.

Anyone else's theaters doing this?

They only plan to show it in 300+ Theaters in May 20 and 21 only.

And the event will be English dubbed.

They also plan to show the first Bleach movie in June and Death Note 2 sometime later this year.

They put ads for Death Note in widely released movies in theaters?!

Why?

Isn't Death Note only playing for, like, two days, limited release? (and during my exam week?)

Seems silly. Would go watch it on the big screen, but I don't really like live-action dubs. Like Crouching Tiger; it just looks silly.

Hmm...I wonder who will be voicing the dubbed version.

I've already got tickets!! I can't wait!

It kind of sucks that its dubbed, but hopefully they'll release bi-lingual DVDs later. I wonder who's distributing this movie. Does Funi have the licence along with the anime?

Its the same voice cast that was used in the anime.

The live action movie was pick up by ViZ Media, which is no shock, since they have the anime.

The dvd of the live action movie will be release on September 16.

Aww...that's sad ChristianKitsune. I'm close to two theaters playing it and the most I would have to drive is 20 minutes to either one. I must live in a good location.

It's playing within an hour of me, but I don't have a car...so I won't be able to see it either.

*hoping for a direct-to-video release*

I feel your pain, Kurama and Kitchan...

Hopefully I'll be able to see it. By the way, is it about as bad as a PG-13 rated movie?

I heard about this from my sister.

VIZ never rates their live action movie releases. I've seen most of the VIZ films that go straight to DVD and I would say all of them would be considered a PG-13 rating. Though Death Note may not be due to what it's story entails. Plus, the live action version of Ryuk is pretty creepy and would most likely scare someone that is young. It's different from it's animated and manga form.

Light and L both look kind of creepy...did Tim Burton design this cover? ;)

Not sure how I feel about a live action movie...but I'll give it a shot.

It's so cool that they're finally releasing it to us deprived English peoples, but it's so INFURIATING that it's showing NOWHERE near me!!!

So did anyone go and see the movie yesterday?

I went today, walked out shortly after coming in.

F-bombs dropped everywhere, and the violence felt much worse than the manga. The voice acting was terrible, also.

All in all, a terrible waste of money, for me anyway.

I saw it. I was dissapointed that it was in english, and that they didn't sub any of the japanese text (and there was a lot of it) but I thought it was pretty good. I can't wait to see the 2nd movie now, and I'm going to buy this one as soon as it comes out on DVD.

That's a great DVD cover.

Are they showing just the first film, or both together?

Oh, and by the way, is the language that intense in most subs? I'd much rather watch it if it isn't.

in all honesty I watched both movies, and I don't remember the language being all that bad...however it has been a few months since I saw it and language doesn't bug me too much. If i remember it was roughly the same type of dialogue you'd find in the manga/anime.

I think the subs were pretty clean. We watched them in a club and usually they don't allow for a lot of bad language...
