Did anyone else see this film? I was absolutely blown away by it. I think Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck turned in some of the best performances of their careers in it. Unfortunately, it won't get nearly the recognition it deserves because I don't believe it had the backing of a huge studio, though I think it was probably the best film to come out last year. It's dark, moody, and slow (I prefer "deliberately paced") and it's definitely not a movie for anyone who only watches films for action. It's well-written and thoughtful. Just incredible. It's on my list of movies to buy.

Also, Nick Cave helped to compose the music, and he has a cameo at the end as a singer in a bar. :3 Good stuff.

Saw it. Liked Pitt's performance. Affleck was driving me crazy. And it definitely is paced slower than you'd expect. I kept thinking it was gonna end soon, but nope. It kept going. Mind you, this thought occurred more than once.

Carla - Yeah, I know what you mean about the length though I must disagree about Affleck's performance. I thought he did a great job playing his role. He's this kid who is just continually invalidated and spit on by life and he thinks he's destined for greater things but he's always held back. I was really impressed with the way Affleck played him. As for the length, I thought it was just so emotionally gripping that it didn't really bother me when it kept going. I wish I'd gotten to see it in the theater.

yeah, I adored the narration for the most part. My only complaint is that there are a couple of scenes where I think it would have done better without narration (as this is a film that actually thrives on silence), but that minor quibble really is superfluous and didn't hurt my opinion.

No, but it really is my favorite western, too. I love how brooding and thoughtful it is. I need to watch it again.
