I like Justice League, the X-men, and The Outsiders. What about the rest of you?

I haven't picke up anything new in ages, but back in the day (late 80s-mid 90s) the Xmen were the top of the pops. There was such a dynamic between all the characters from love/hate to hate/hate and everything inbetween. Much more of a dysfunctional family feel then the pantheon of the JLA or Avengers.

About all I currently read is The Outsiders, JLA, and Teen Titans.

Who are "The Outsiders"? The last group of Outsiders I've heard of, was a gang of greasers from the 50s, with no super powers whatsoever...

They were a superhero team during the 80's that Batman was in for awhile. They had some third-stringers in the team, so I'm not surprised. Their most famous member was Metamorpho.

Wasn't The Outsiders a movie with Matt Dillon and Ralph Macchio? XD

Either the X-men or the Fantastic Four. As you can see, I'm mostly a Marvel kinda guy. The only hero from DC that I truely enjoy is Batman, so any group with him in it is ok by my watch.

You need to read Watchmen. It is a graphic novel written by Alan Moore and published by DC. However, I must warn you that there is some language and some sexual content.

wikipedia wrote:It was one of the first superhero comics to present itself as serious literature, and it also popularized the "graphic novel" format. Watchmen is the only graphic novel to win a Hugo Award, and is also the only graphic novel to appear on Time magazine's 2005 list of "the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present."

It really did change comics forever.

*end Watchmen plug*

In response to the thread: I think that the Watchmen were the greatest superhero team.

The Outsiders is still around, though the current series is quite different than what it was in the 80's. In a way, it's almost a much darker version of Teen Titans. The Outsiders operate on the premise that while other superhero teams such as JLA and the Teen Titans attempt to save the world as needed, the Outsiders hunt down dangerous criminals and capture them before they have the chance to do harm. The team was founded by Arsenal (formerly Speedy of the Teen Titans), and is being led by Nightwing.

Nightwing, who had led the Titans through all their incarnations up to a little while before the current Outsiders series starts, had completely dissaosociated himself from TT because he was sick of seeing his comrades whom he considered his family die or betray the team. (The Titans have had more turncoats than any other DC team.) His failing relationship with Starfire didn't help matters either. By becoming a solo hero, he wouldn't have the same emotional attatchments to anyone and wouldn't risk getting hurt.

Arsenal convinces him to lead the team by convincing him that it's just a job and he doesn't have to have any attatchment to anyone on the team. Nightwing reluctantly agrees, sticking to his hard-nosed policy of staying at a distance from his team.

Eventually, this starts causing tensions throughout the series as his team begins to come against him claiming that his hard nosedness is endangering the team. Things begin to worsen as it begins to become clear that one of the team is a traitor, and Nightwing uncovers a deadly secret about the Outsiders' info source.

One thing notable about the series is that it's not afraid to cross over into edgier material and real world themes, such as the horrifying but excellently written story arc where the Outsiders track a child trafficking ring.

Unfortunately, they were done in by their own skeletons in their closets.

Best is, of course very subjective. Does it mean most effective, favorite to read/watch, most powerful? Is it any team past and present?

I am currently reading comics for JLA, JSA, Teen Titans, Outsiders, Legion of Super-Heroes, Birds of Prey, and Shadowpact. My favorite title to read is Shadowpact. It’s very well written and the characters are all “likeableâ€

Of course everyone knows it has to be the FF.I mean over the last 40 years they've had the motto "World's Greatest Superheroes" as part of their title.

Superman and Batman. That's all you need baby...

If I can't pick just those two, I'd say the entire Justice League (the Bruce Timm version on Cartoon Network)
