I think it could work.After all the main point of Speed Racer is auto racing and if they emphasis the racing aspects to it it should draw a lot of race fans.Then you build the rest of the movie around the racing.

One problem: The Wachowskis have a penchant for dark movies. And Speed Racer...isn't dark.

You have to remember that auto racing is the new in sport with many people so that a movie based on an anime where the title character is an race car driver makes sense.
