so am i the only fan of the big black disc's? does anyone else wish these things were still made? how can one get in the groove with out said grooves?^^

The reasons why the CD overtook the LP in popularity were:
*Clarity of sound
*Ease of storage

ah but the record has a better sound quality, you just need a nice hi-fi^^ plus the record aka the phonograph the national standard for archiving audio becuase it is a simple format that is produced on a very stable medium unlike the cd which will degrade after 100 years vinyl will last 1000's of years before degrading. did i mention the sound^^

All I have is Their Greatest Hits by The Eagles on vinyl. I'd like to get some more.

I wasn't arguing against vinyl I was just noting why CDs have become more popular since they were first introduced in the late '80s.

Yes, but the needles on the record players were real pains.
I have several vinyls, being I grew up when they were still somewhat around... and because my parents were always behind the times technology-wise. ^_^
I did however get a CD player in 1990, which was semi-early. They weren't the standard quite yet. When I got one in my car in 1996, most everyone else I knew only had a tape player.
I prefer CDs, because of the storage space required for LPs and the player, and because I hate the dust and needle issues. Don't want to be bothered. CD quality is still good enough for me. ^_^

i think i got my first cd player in 98, and the first one in a car in 2003, cassettes were probably the medium i have used the most throughout my life, but i can still remember seeing records for sale in stores as a kid. i like cd's becuase they work best in car, but im sure in 10 years we will have switched to mp3 players in cars instead of cd's we'll use flash drive like devices for most of our music, and if things continue the way theyre going with downloaded music, the quality of sound will continue to degrade. that said i dont by any means think that records are supiroir to cd's or will replace them. i would never dtich my cd player in car for one of those under dash 45's, but they do offer better sound quality (if theyre clean) and are a format that i enjoy using^^

And it wasn't that long ago when 8 Track Tapes were the "In" thing.At least for cars.It seems that the Music Industry is one of the fastest to adopt new technology.

Speaking of vinyl I do have some classical records on vinyl and also there are some others.
My favorite old songs are:Lili Marlene(from WW2)and Waiting For The Robert E.
Lee(from the 1890s).

well i think its old things in general, music is just one of my antiquated interest. allthough i still think the record is a great medium for audio, 8 track.... not so much but theyre still cool

If it weren't for the invention of the juke box we would have missed one of the best opening credit scenes in all of sitcomdom:the opening of Happy Days,also the end credits with the juke box.
