the movie is gonna officially show on my birthday dec. 5th.
I'm not so sure if it is gonna be shown on the exact same date though, cause here in vegas we get our movies pretty late.

I love Tom Cruise... That being said, I almost laughed when I saw the preview for this movie the first time... All the build up and then, you see
him. THE LAST SAMURAI! He turns around... and there's the last face you expected to see! Tom Cruise of all people!
But the idea is growing on me.
Japan + samurai + Tom Cruise = I'll be first in line!
hehehe.. I got all excited when I realized I could read some of the characters that were in the preview.

I'm 19, so there's no problem for me.
Unfortunately, I won't be about to see it until at least the 15th of December, because I'm at school (i.e. no car), and I don't come home until then. So I will definitely see it, just not the first day (December 5th around here).
That will be a busy week for movies: Return of the King + The Last Samurai.

It's a screenshot of Super Sonic vs. Perfect Chaos from the new Sonic anime.

There was an advance screening on Wednesday at a theater within walking distance of my dorm, but it was sold out!
Oh well...I guess I will have to wait until the 15th after all.
Call my cynical, but it kinda bugs me the Last Samurai is a white guy.
Well, he's not supposed to be playing an Asian, and he might not even be the "last samurai" from which the movie gets its title. I suppose the more interesting question is why all of the Japanese people speak English...

That's what I thought too! (Why is he white?) But I'm gonna give it a try anyway...
Do they all speak English? Or is it just in English so that we understand it? (And we just pretend its in Japanese.)

I saw the trailor for The Last Samurai before The Matrix Revolutions, first I'd heard of it. Looks good, I think I'm going to see it.

Obviously no-one's paid attention to the commercials for it.
Tom Cruise's character is a US Civil war Vet who is hired to do training in the western style of fighting (war)... in turn he get's captured and falls for the people of this country (or something like that).
My mom says it reminds her of the old TV mini-series (back when they ran for a week) Shogun.
I'm not much of a Tom Cruise fan (some of his newer stuff is fine)... but this looks really, really good. I might just have to see about making room in my schedule to see it big-screen (the only movie I'm planning on seeing for sure before the end of the year is the 3rd installment of LotR).
Now you know the rest of the story.

I laughed in the threater when I saw the first preview. "Tom Cruise, the Last Samurai"... I was like "What the..?" Then, I saw a later preview about him being an American merc., etc...
Anyways, I'm not really sure if it's going to be good or not, but heck, I'll see it anyways... I love war movies.

Props to Phil, you hit it right on the mark.
The movie is looks like it's very similar to Shogun, but with lots of action. The story seems solid and it's got my vote. I think this will be a winner.
Tom Cruise, as a side note, was almost beheaded during rehearsal. A machine was supposed to lower as a sword was swung at his head. Well, it didn't, and luckily enough the swordsman stopped the blade an inch away from his neck. Just thought that was pretty interesting.

My friend said it was really cool. And it was like Rurouni Kenshin.

*ahem* Yuh, I did pay attention to the commercials. All I'm sayin' in that you just don't expect to see Tom Cruise in a samurai movie. Good grief Charlie Brown.

I suppose it is a bit unfair to me... I think the shorter commercials/trailers didn't cover the basics of the movie as well as the longer ones..... even so, they do show him in his Civil war uniform.
I don't think it's all that unusuall, esp. when you know the premise behind the movie itself.
Now all I have to do is decide if I'm going to go see it tomorrow when it comes out or wait for the DVD.
