Hey have any of you heard about the live action movie of Eva?? I don't know if it is actually going to come out soon or anything but I've heard some rumers. Yeah I've heard that WETA (the LOTR special effects dude's) Is working on it. I have also heard that there might be a live action Akira.

Sorry to cut in on your thread here, That Dude, but I gotta say this. (You probably aren't aware of the troubles we've had surrounding NGE)

Guys, KEEP IT NICE or this thread is gone. Period. Thank you.

hahahahah
Dude where have you been?

Yeah, this isn't news anymore :)

I agree with Inkhana, hows about we don't bash this series anymore and just let us fans of Evangelion talk about it in peace.

Yep, Evangelion is officially being made into a live action movie. ADV Films, Gainax and WETA Workshop are producing it. It is still in the pre-production stages. There are a few websites devoted to the production of LIVE EVA and handling rumors and official news.

http://www.ngemovie.tk/
I check out this one mostly

In the July issue of Newtype USA WETA released a couple concept art pictures of what some of the designs will look like. Pictures of Nerv, the 3 Evas in cryo-stasis, and Asuka in her plug suit. Other than that, they really haven't released too much more information about the production.

When that issue came out, I brought that with me everywhere I went to and showed it off  I was like "look look! Concept art for live eva! It's happening! My dreams have come true!" lol

I contacted ADV Films about the production, requesting the email of someone I could send a resume to try to work on the set. They replied that they didn't know anything at the time. It'd probably be easier to talk to Tiffany Grand who's husband is Matt Greenfield. He works for ADV and is on the prod. team.

There are lots of anime being turned live action. Akira, Ninja Scroll, Sailor Moon, Kite and some others are being tossed around trying to get a producer to produce it.
Ninja Scroll is going to be made by the same company who made Mortal Kombat. So I'm sure they are going to ruin it. In an interview they said they'll probably make it PG-13.

I'm a bit anxious. Most live-action incarnations of things I like (Street Fighter, Super Mario Brothers) have really missed the mark for me. I think it will be the same case for Eva.

I still have high hopes for the movie. Simply because it is being made by it's creator, Gainax. And then we got it's U.S. sister company, A.D. Vision and the masters of effects, WETA Workshop. Eva is big in Australia, which is a plus. I'm pretty sure that this will be filmed in New Zealand or somewhere near there.

Also, as excited as I am, this film won't even start shooting for a couple more years. They're taking their time on this;which is good, so they don't make mistakes, but bad for us 'cause we have to be really patient.

I am a bit skeptical about whether they can make a very good live action anime-to-movie.

Basing a movie off of a book is one thing. Basing it off of a 20-something episode anime series is another.

I still haven't seen the anime yet. I'm planning on eventually getting the box set. The movies I'll probably rent, since based on what I've heard here, I probably won't want to be permanantly adding them to my collection.

Yeah I figured lot's of you guys knew about it...But I just felt like posting something about it. I do not think that it will turn out that great. I think that it'd be pretty cool anyways. I'll almost definatly watch it if it has no nudity. I just hope the Eva's will look good. Especially Units 01 and 04 (if they put four in there.) I hope that they get good actors to do the Eva gang also.

Yeah I don't think that Ninja Scroll should become a live action movie. It (the anime movie) is just to perverted i think. So I don't think they should make a live action version

Believe me, if you buy the box set, you will WANT to buy the movie. If you like the series, you'll love the movie. If you don't like the series you'll probably not like the movie. But then again, if you don't like the series, then you probably shouldn't have bought the set ;)

i'm one of those people against the 'live action' movie that is currently under development. why? because Evangelion has ended already.

if it's a recap of things, and if the quality is good enough then i might as well watch it. but if it's another one of those 'side story' things, then no way i'm paying a cent for that.

kinda like adding more content to Revelations.

Gainax is screwed up in the head... Gainax, with the obvious exception of Anno, along with the whiny and dangerou Eva fans made Anno lose it... If it's Gainax without anno, that makes me wonder... I'll still see it, but it can't really be Eva without Anno...

I don't think that ADV is really that closely connected with Gainax... They are their own thing, and it just happens that their biggest product came out of Gainax...

I actually am anticipating this movie, but the fact gainax will have a bit of free reign actually scares me...

And, no, being an Eva fan will not mean you'll like the (already made animated) movies...

Eva is a midrange to high PG-13
End of Eva is a midrange to high R rating...

Eva is somewhat coherent
End of Eva is completely incoherent

Eva is heartwarming at times and you feel for the characters and want to see where they go...
End of Eva takes what you feel about the characters and stabs it repeatedly with a rusty spoon, then it spits on it and drags it over sharp rocks until it decides to dip it in the sewer and volley it with tennis raquets made of razor wire, then feed it to Cerberus (the three-headed dog from Hell).

If you can't tell, I don't like End of Evangelion... Besides, the show ends weird but that is the REAL ENDING. The movie is the product of contractual blackmailing and death threats and a mental breakdown... It's not the real end to evangelion, it's a big bloody and tainted work of fanservice (the non-sexual kind)

Gee what a way to put it Bob I don't know if I should cry or laugh. Anyway it looks like the live action movie is gonna be cool. But they really haven't made a live action movie based on an anime on a large scale so it could end up good and bad depending on where they take it. All the fancy special effects will be no good if the story is all messed up and makes no sense. Anyway the one person at Gainax I think is sick in the head is that dude who wrote the scripts for FLCL if it wasn't for the director FLCL could have been much worse Fan-Service wise and could have been like Hentai.

I'll agree with you on that to some degree.

One must understand, however, that what happens in the movie DOES happen in the ending to the series. Know that when you watch it.
When you take into account everything that was implied and said in episode 25/26, and then what you saw in EoE, they are very similar.

You don't "SEE" it in the series, it is implied. You visually see it in EoE. Anno didn't really change anything, he just explained it better and with more detail.

That's just my 2 cents

I like eva,but making a live action eva is not so good.I prefer Gainax to make another anime instead of remaking eva

I just don't know after the fiasco that was Final Fantasy. If they do an absolutely excellent job on the CG, then it shouldn't be to bad. It's got a good plot in place already.

I think that movie was proof that the best animation in the world does not make a good movie. I hated Spirit's Within...they put all their money to animation and forgot to write a script.

redkorn wrote:well far as i know the kid from the sixth sense movie is playing as shinje akari

I haven't heard that yet, but I heard rumors that Harry Potter might play Shinji Ikari. These are rumors though, there haven't been any official statements thus far.

hopefully it's someone who no one knows that only when we see them act can anyone know if they are good actors or not.

even then, i won't watch it, unless i get enough time to watch it. which i currently don't...

Why would a kid named SHINJI be ANYTHING but JAPANESE? Just wondering...

They may change the names to make them Americans, though... The only one I could accept as a caucasian is Asuka... Not Rei or Shinji (and it would really screw things up if they were different races from one another...)

Unless they're gonna do something screwy and change alla the names ala American Sailor Moon...

PostPosted: Thu Dec 04, 2003 10:28 pm

exactly. in fact, why don't they do some really good work and make all the characters CGified, so we don't get to see the 'true' actors. like, made out of polygons. it'll just be 3D version of Evangelion. that way, everyone will be happy :)

of course, then there's no point in 'live action' filming, is there?

and who knows, maybe they'll change the name from Shinji to Sam. Rei to Raichel, etc etc. it'll be one annoying little movie, i tell you, from a perspective of a person who already has seen all of the series and the movies over and over again.

If they change the names I'm going to be ****. I hate it when movies change the names from the original.

Rei can't be anything but Japanese? What you've never heard the name Ray in America? The spelling is different but it's the same pronunciation.

Bobtheduck wrote: (and it would really screw things up if they were different races from one another...)

Don't forget that Asuka was half German half Japanese.
And why would it screw it up anyway? They are The Children. They get picked from all over the world, not just in Japan. After they're picked they then transfer to the highschool.

A lot of girl names are also guy names now. Kim, Shannon, Kelly, and Tracy are examples. You can add Ray/Rei to that list as well now.

Hech Rei is a transgender name in Japan...Rei from Mars=guy. Rei from Eva=girl...I do hope the people are Japanese...If they aren't they should at least look like the Eva chars...It would really suck though if they changed the names...I'd slap the director with a wet noodle.
