I just saw this movie. It was really weird. Do you guys have any explanations for it?

I just read and faq and it said that Frank became a Manipulated Dead after Donnie shot him. He then went back in time and manipulated Donnie into stopping the place from being destroyed. Is this accurate?

You've got it mixed up a bit. Here.

[spoiler] After the first crash at the beginning of the movie, Donnie wakes up in a temporary universe. Everyone around him, with the exception of Frank and Gretchen are what are called the Manipulated Living. Backing up a bit, when Frank gives the "28 days, 6 hours..." speech, he's referring to the temporary universe which (if you watch the director's cut, there's a lot of explanations) only lasts for about a month.[/spoiler]
