Which one do you like better... the new trilogy or the old trilogy?

I think I still like the old ones better... But it's hard to say...

Easy to say. Sith was very good, but the story of the new trilogy was poor compared to the original.

The prequels lacked that core cast of characters you cared about (speaking of I and II), like the old. Not to mention, no Rogue (or Red) Squadron. ;) X-wings and Snowspeeders just rock.

the old ones were better... but I love the new effects and the Revenge of the Sith is my new favorite star wars movie... I'd have to go with the old ones though. The characters were all so much more likeable.

Special effects bring attention to the newer ones but when you get down to the core of it there's no way you can beat the classics. In my opinion the story and characters more than make up for the lack of super cool effects

*gasp* None? Never? O_O You must see them, they are SO good, especially Return of the Jedi. However I recommend searching eBay or Amazon or something and buying the original versions on VHS. Lucas, in the mid 90s, had them re-released in theaters with this stupid added material. It really makes them less enjoyable. And what's worse is the new DVD versions not only only include the versions with added material, but now some stuff is altered. I am so mad at Lucas for doing that. And he refuses to have the original versions put on DVD. Dang you Lucas!! :mutter: :comp:
Now back to the question, I highly prefer the originals (as you can tell from above, the original way). Thank God I recently won the original VHS versions off of eBay, hardly used. I can't wait until they arrive. Then I have to make DVD versions from them. I like the new ones alot (especially Episode 3) but they'll never beat the originals. There's a magic that the originals had that the new ones just don't capture. Plus, there's obviously a heck of alot more of Darth Vader in the originals, and he's my favorite villain in all of viction as well as my favorite SW character. It take a while to review it all, but the originals beat the new ones hands down.

i don't see what was so annoying about the special edition.... OH NOS!!! GREEDO SHOT FIRST! THAT MAKES HAN SOLO A WIMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 ITS HAS TO SUCK NOW!!!!!!!!

it had cooler stuff added into it, like Han stepping on Jabbas tail and stuff, more stormtroopers added, and pilots head moved and stuff...

sheesh, i enjoyed the special edition... the only thing i didn't like in the dvds was replacing Sebastian Shaw with that Hayden retard....

That was lame. It was OK putting in the deleted scenes (like Biggs), but the CGI was lame-- especially the sarlaac pit...

I haven't seen Revenge of the Sith yet (I'm seeing it Friday) but from seeing the other five I would have to say the original trilogy has better chemistry and comic relief between the characters and you care more about the characters. I prefer the storylines of Phantom and Clones to the others and the art direction I like better, but the chemistry isn't really there. I still enjoy the prequels though. I hope Sith is nice and dark!

Anyone else watch Duck Dodgers yesterday? They did the one where Dodgers
and the Space Cadet were trying to take down the Martian battlecrusier and
it had the scene where Marvin the Martian's shooting at them and he says:
"Yet another attempted imitation of the Famed Trench Scene, how many
more must that cursed movie bring down?"
Has to be the Original,no doubt about it!
"Luke.. I am your Father!"
"Use the Force Luke!"
The famous Cantina Scene.
And who can forget the infamous garbage scene!?

Two words: Han Solo

That alone is reason enough for the old to pwn the new. But for more than just that, definately old. Sith is great, but old on the whole rock the new.

Had one and two been handled with the care three was, it could have been a closer thing, but they weren't...

BTW, who voted for the new anyway

For me, it's all about the badly planned save-the-princess-and-escape plan, quickly followed by the trash compactor scene. I really wish that the new trilogy could match that

Ah, fun topic! My first I'll post on here on CAA.

I'll be honest and say it's really hard to say which trilogy was "better". I'm 37, so I definately remember all the hype, anticipation and fun surrounding the original series when it was new. I was 9 back in 1977 and since that time swearing I'd trade my sister for a lightsaber.

If I had to choose one way or the other, I'd go with the originals hands down. In my opinion Haydn Christiansen couldn't act his way out of a paper bag to save his life, but then again, Mark Hammill was not much of an actor either.

ANH, ESB, ROTJ are immortal in my biased eyes and I'm a bit more blind to seeing some of the faults in story line than I am the newer series. Well, except when it comes to the Ewoks. I remember thinking them a big detraction from the seriousness of the trilogy up until then. They just didn't fit well in Jedi and wasn't believable that they could beat Palpatine's elite forces on Endor in defense of the sheild generator.

Spears and hang gliders versus AT-AT's, yeah right. LOL.

One thing about the newest series is that, despite acting, I just didn't feel Haydn and Natalie had the same on screen chemistry that Harrison and Carrie did. With Han and Leia, you could believe it, not with Anakin and Padme Amidala.

But I will say that Episode III was BY FAR the strongest of the three newest films, despite acting at times. The visuals were incredible and the script a big step up from Episode II. I think in twenty years my son will look upon these as I have the originals. =)

Dems me 2 cents,

sukatto

I grew up on the originals, so I gotta go with the originals. Don't get me wrong, I like the prequels, because I knew going in that Lucas couldn't touch the nostalgia and love attached to the originals. There are holes in prequels, and holes in the originals, and there were some lame things in the prequels, and lame things in the originals. Nothing is perfect, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it.

Episode 3 was my favorite, but on the whole 4 5 and 6 were better than 1 and 2.

On an unrelated note,
Did anyone else catch palpatine saying "I've been waiting a long time for this - about a month" to yoda?

Episode III was the most emmotional and my favorite by far....

It had the best action, best plot, best opening battle, but my least favorite is 1 so I`d have to say, from order from greatest to least is:

1. Episode III
2.Episode II
3. Episode VI
4. Episode V
5.Episode IV
6. Episode 1

He waited a long time to fight Yoda because Yoda was a legendary Jedi and Palpatine was a legendary Sith. Also he was the Chaceloor for 13 years.

I am shocked that as many people as tow decided that the new were better. The only great thing about them was the special effects, and those will be outdated in a few years. What draw will they have then?

The old trilogy was way better, mainly because the comic relief was woven in better.
