A back leg side kick from a fighting stance, or a jump switching side kick?

I don't quite understand the question. Don't you just put your foot on the floor after you've executed the kick?

That would depend on whether you want to land forward or not.

From my experience, there are several ways to do a side kick.
Generally, a rear leg side kick, in which you have to pivot your rear leg forward to execute the kick, you can drop your foot forward into somewhat of a back stance after executing the kick, or you can chamber your leg again and return it to your starting position.
In a front leg side kick, where you simply lift up your front leg and execute the kick, you usually drop the foot forward into somewhat of a back stance (body is facing one side along with rear foot, knees bent, and front leg is slightly past shoulder width apart, and front foot is aligned with your rear foot's heel.)
I'm not really sure about your question, so it would help if you explained further. ^__^

Heh...never mind... I meant from a fighting stance, but i think i've got it now. I do the side kick and step after it. It's just, in class when i just step, then it seems wrong 'cause I am only about to step into the person in the next row. okay, what i mean is when you step, should you realign to front stance or just stand where you'd naturally land. If y'all can't help, don't worry! That's what the dojang is for.

I think you stand where you naturally land, but if you're not sure of how to do a certain technique, it always helps to ask your instructor.

For a back leg side kick, you pivot your foot when you kick. Make sure for forms you use the
blade of your foot. In sparring or for board breaks you use your heel. After you do the intial kick re-chamber then land.

If you're still confused, you could always PM sanitysux13. He's good at this stuff, from my experience.
