I love this flick.

Now, I'm not *NOT* going to tell any of you to see it. It's got tons and tons of mature content... and I didn't at all agree with the philosophy of the film..

But in the end, it was just awesome.

Anyone else seen it? It's a mind-trip.

Ooh yeah, has one of the biggest plot-twists in movie history. The visual effects were awesome as well ("My eyes are open."). Also a fav, very memorable even though I don't agree with the philosophy as well.

We all know the first and second rules of fight club, don't we? :brow:

It had a few mature things...but I did not think it was really horrible in that aspect. I own it, love it. But it is an R rated film. Thus that should be taken into consideration before viewing it.

We watched a clip of that in my video production class. It was a part when the main character was fighting some guy in fight club. The crowd wears black or dark shirts so they are in sharp contrast to the fighters and that dutch angle used so the fighter falls to the ground vertically and...Whoops. I've started deconstructing film scenes again. I better stop...

I loved this movie even though I also thought the philosophy was a load of crap. it had a lot of great dialogue and humor in it.

Yep, great flick, IMO.

Great plot twist, too...though it was one of those plot twists that you either thought was totally awesome, or the stupidest thing you've ever seen.

Yeah it was a real cool movie. Pitt and Norton were both really good together there. And yes that plot twist was crazy nothing could of prepared you for that and the philosophy was a bunch of bull, but hey I can live with it.

It wasn't a bad movie - at least the plot was interesting, and it wasn't the stuff rehashed in 90% of hollywood movies.

A little different. Decent. Not my favourite.

It was cool when I first saw it, the dialogue was great.

Philosophy's bunk of course.

A Good movie but after I saw it once the whole thing had a very unpleasant feel to it.

I disliked it as well. Admittedly its well made and the twist is good and a lot of thought went into it but I'm afraid it just is not as good. Off course the philosophy is dreadful but this movie left me very cold.

I kinda liked it but like bigsleep here, I also feelt cold afterwards. I did like the philosophy to some extent though... "You're not the clothes you wear. You're not the contents of your wallet. Your lifes ending one minute at a time and then you WILL die."
I think thats very appopriate to hear and get a wake-up call, particularaly some of my mates.

Or do you guys mean something else by philosophy?

The movie really does embrace nihilism in a large way, and I think that's what doesn't sit well with most of us.

It didn't sit well with me either. However, I can forgive a lot of sins of a movie with clever visual style, and I thought Fight Club's graphics and style were immensely entertaining and well done. The Dust Brothers' score is also clever, and I've always loved the intro where the camera is ducking around brain cells.

It was a lot better than, say, Serial Experiments Lain on that front.

Ah.. I just looked up Nihilism on google or better said I googled nihilism & you're right shooraijin, the movie did certainly embrace that philosophy. Thanks.

In fact, if you look up nihilism in the Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihilism , it even references Fight Club.

The only gripe I really had with the movie was the part with the porn splicing. The idea was sort of funny but I really didn't need to actually see it, if you know which part I'm talking about. >_>

If you all liked the movie, the original novel was good too. I read it and was pretty impressed.

yeah the porn splicing was bad....but I really did like the movie....it had just a cold feel but those movies are something I embrace....I guess...the whole idea of nihillism in the story doesn't sit well...but it doesn't take from the story for me

OK, so I am behind the times, I saw this movie for the first time last night, and I LOVED IT.

True, it is *very* flawed, but the passion behind what is being done is amaizing. Its the whole mis-guided thing... We were created for a grand reason, and when we reject our origional purpose in life, we wander aimlesly, until a few may find other causes to dedicate themselves to... I thought it was a great movie.

I didn't like the "twist" tho.
Give me a brake. ALOT of movies lately do the "oh ha, it really was me" in the end.. and that doesn't take as much thought to me, to do, as to really develop both character... but whatever.
The "twist" was alright, I saw it coming though. (although, that could have been because someone spoiled it for me...I forgot the twist but as I watched it came back)

I can't really say much about the philosphy in it, as I was staying more focused on what was happening on screen, and also to stay awake, as I was watching it late. It's worth a second viewing, I suppose, but I'm in no hurry.

Has anyone seen The Machinest

I saw it a couple months ago, and didn't like it at first, but started to like it after I thought through all the symbolism... A friend said it was just a rip off of Fight Club... Has anyone seen both movies and can say whether that's true?? From what I had heard of Fight Club and seen in the game (supposedly scenes out of the movie) I don't see how that's possible, thouhg
THe big twist in Fight Club is the same as the twist in Machinest, I know... That of two people both being the same person... The main character
Is that the only thing that is the same, or is it the same in terms of symbolism througout, too?? Machinest has nothing to do with vandalism or protest or a fight club, very little fighting, and actually reminds me of Silent Hill... Very deeply psychological... I can't really watch Rated R movies at home... I am limited to the Theater or people's houses, and I don't know anyone who has this movie...
