Opens March 2006 in Toronto. It was originally supposed to open in London, but they couldn't find a theatre big enough. Apparently, it's the most expensive musical ever.

Hilarious but its not necessarily milking it for all its worth. Musicals of classics have been made for years and until the movies did well they wouldn't have known if they would get there many back from the show because it is a fantasy and a big budget is a huge risk. The movies did well so they proceeded.

I can imagine it now.....Frodo singing at center stage with a bunch of hobbit extras dancing about in the background.
"It's the One Ring to rule them all! But we're gonna make it in the end! Gonna take this show to Mordor, yeah! I'm gonna take my chance and be a staaarr!"
Then there's a huge hobbit dance number headed up by Samwise and Rose Cotton.
Following this, it cuts to Gollum's hit solo "Yes, My Precious".
