Is the Sin City movie ok for Christians?

I've been waiting for this one to come out because it is based off a very popular superhero style comic book, and it has alot of very familiar actor/actress faces in it (Bruce Willis, Elijah Wood, Jessica Alba, etc.) but some of the content sounds a little edgy to me, so does anyone have any advice on what to do with it? I hear it is very true to the comic books and very well made, and alot of people on another board I go to for Superhero stuff really like the comics and want to see the film (infact, the comic's maker is co-director or something of the movie
). Here is the final poster if it helps at all:

I'll be keeping up with this thread as well, since I'm such an Elijah Wood fan. However...I looked the preview and it looks...like it might be a little rough around the edges in the "adult" content area, so I'm not so sure.

Anything with "Sin City" in the title will make me be cautious despite good actors being in it.

I'm going to keep up with this thread too. We watched the trailer in my video production class and it looks interesting but I need more info to decide if I'll see it or not.

Well, since this movie is base on the comic that Frank Miller did, then adult content is going to be norm here.
I have a like and dislike for Frank Miller's work really and I just don't see myself seeing this comic book movie.

The stylization of the previews is amazing.

I'm going to watch it but that's because I can tolerate a lot of violence and swearing. Robert Rodriguez's movies tend to have those (Spy Kids being the exceptions). But I'm looking forward to it. It might end up being one of the years best movies if Rob Rod can pull it off.

Hey, Dark City was a good movie!
Previews for this movie look good, but since its called Sin City if one were to watch it they should proceed with caution and be strong in their faith. I won't see it though.

The only thing that worries me about this film is the sexual content, because it looked like there was at least a moderate amount from the trailer. My question is, is there any nudity, and is it a scummy film in that department in general?

.........its called Sin City.......nudity would feel norm for a story like that.

I just want the details. I want to know to what extremes it is taken, how much of it there is, etc.

well, thanks all. I think I will see it, I just wanted to double-check. from what I hear of it it is supposed to be displaying the effects and existance of a dark city full of corruption and greed, but is supposed to preach good themes as a result of that. I'l probably see it with a bit of caution, and tell you guys what I think.

Its hard to say without someone going to see the movie. But I say this, Sin City is base on the comic done by Frank Miller. Now, Frank Miller has done some good work in comics, but I also see some bad too in his work. Miller did a good job when he was at Marvel, but I think they somewhat could put a no on what he wanted to really do. After he left and went to DC, just about all of his stuff were dark or very dark. Some people think he is a smart writer, some thing he is a bad writer and to me, I think he was lock up in dark room when he was a child.
So, I just say that Sin City is one comic that he really got to do what he wanted to do. I like his work when he was at Marvel, but when he want to DC and did what he did with batman. I started to have a dislike for the man's writing and art style.

I don't follow comics too closely so I wouldn't know, but what did he do to Batman?

yeah, I don't like his art style with Batman, that's for sure, but I've still seen worse comic art. The most menacing as the almost rubbery/shiny plastic looking stuff where everyone is gigantic (not just applying to Batman). That and I hate the wiery shrimpy looking Spider-Man art.

yeah, I know, some sites (such as
http://www.superherohype.com) count it like one though, since they cover comic book related stuff (mostly on comics-gone-movies and stuff)

Just go to Pluggedinonline.com
and read the review. They are usually the ones I turn to. BTW I don't plan on seeing this movie. Violence doesn't really bug me. It just looks too dark. But I have to admit the whole black-and-white/comic book thing looks cool. Whether or not you see it is between you and God.

i hate the over-critical nature of Plugged In Online, they even got nit-picky over lord of the rings. i gave up on them when i read some reviews for things I saw out of curiosity and they slammed almost every good film.

A warning about Plugged In, both to those that critize and those who suggest it. Be aware first of all that Plugged In is a ministry from Focus on the Family, who aims primarily at parents of children to make educated choices. While I agree this may not be the best source, I do expect everyone to treat them and their ministry with respect. We've had FAR too much FotF bashing in the past, and it simply won't be tolerated. To put it simply, if you make an arrogant or ignorant post bashing FotF, it will just be deleted.
