Basketball

Postby Zar » Thu Dec 16, 2004 10:24 am

I was going through the sports center section and I didn't see anything about basketball. Or maybe I just didn't look hard enough. Well anyway, Since this is my favorite sport I just got to start this thread. So how many NBA fans are in CAA and what is your favorite team.

I got to go go with the Grizzles, basically cause there in Memphis. I gotta represent the M-town :thumb:

Basketball? I love basketball, it's one of my favorite sports! I was going to start a thread about it towards middle season because I didn't want to post continually for 100+ games. Anyways, my favorite team will be the San Antonio spurs. Given I live in Texas that makes it that much better. Also, other teams I keep an eye out for are the Houston Rockets, Minnesota timberwolves, Milwaukee bucks, as well as the Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavs--they are fun to watch.

But yeah, I play basketball all the time. If i could get about another 2inches in jump height I would be able to dunk :(. But oh well. I love making and beating my own records.
My record for continual free throws is 21 straight. I hold a philosophy that if you can shoot from the free throw line, the medium of the court, you can make almost any shot.
and for continual 3-points would be 12 straight. I love playing one-on-one or two-on-two exhibitions/games. Though, if you don't have enough people a game of 21 is also fun to play. Better set a max number of free throws or I may be there all day. :P
I took it up around 8th grade as a hobby and just took off from there.

I haven't play for about 2 months so I may be a bit rusty. But now that my friends are back from school I can start practicing and playing again. It sucks to play alone :(.... :P

Edit: Love the thread!

SONICS! :thumb:

I live in Eastern Washington and Spokane has been fairly split between
Sonics and Jazz fans because Spokane is the hometown of the Great
John Stockton of the Utah Jazz.So you get a lot of people who are fans
of the Sonics and others fans of the Jazz here,as a result whenever
the Jazz play the Sonics in the preseason in Spokane it's guaranteed
that not all of the crowd will be rooting for the Sonics.

I am not a big basketball fan...more an NFL fan. But I will say this. I was thrilled with LA lost last year. I hated there uber team. But, I respect Shaq for trying to lead a new team. So for now I hope the Heat do well. I can't wait to see the Lakers and the Heat play this saturday. Kobe is gonna realise that he was not the reason the Lakers did well....

LA, I've never big a big fan of them... Probably because they are one of San Antonio's biggest rivals. Like you said Shatterheart, the Heat-Lakers match up will be quite interesting. ALthough I'm not the biggest Kobe fan, I think he'll open a new bag of tricks against Shaq and the Heats to try and prove something. I always thought that team relationship was a bit odd. Two people always fighting for attention and the ball...

In my opinion, it's sad when a team has to focus their entire offense around one player. Sure you need your star player, but when is focused around getting one person the ball, well arguments are bound to break out. Hence the Kobe vs. Shaq battles. Take the spurs for example, one of their star players is Duncan, but that's not their only player the center around. They have a killer defense-- among the best (not "the" best) and I've seen them win countless times were Duncan only scores 2-5points in a game. The key is you need to have a equally balanced offense, because if your star player gets injured you can still move a few things around and continue to win. There are also a few other teams like that -- last years Pistons would be a good example. OVerall a strong team, not focused entirely around one-two people. A team with the strategy of getting one person the ball may win many games, but when they get hurt/injured or whatever, the rest of the team suffers.

yeah, I used to have the same problem where I could only make shots in practice. The thing is, when your practicing by yourself no one is there to block your shots-- in a game here are 5 people on the other team to try and stop ya. When we start competing against another we sometimes we "get in the zone" and loose focus of the techniques we have been taught/learned. Key is to remain calm.
