I'll have to see what the reviews say. I liked the books so-so, so I'm not sure how much I'll enjoy the movie. It certainly does look interesting, though. ^__^

I might see it, I too am a huge Jim Carry fan,
but I found the books... just... terrible, so I don't know.

Over here, my critics gave the movie 4 stars...I knew it would get 4 stars...when I first say the preview for it, I said to myself that it would most likely get 4 stars. Anyway, I'm most definitely not seeing this movie. Because, I think it looks really dumb, and I can't stand Jum Carrey. :thumbsdow He thinks he's so funny, but he isn't. Plus, I very much dislike him all the more when I heard he purposely became an American citizen just so he could vote for John Kerry in the election this year. No, no, I will not throw away 8 bucks to see one of his movies.

I'll definately go to see it, though perhaps not tonight. Probably after Christmas. It looks...intersting, to say the least. I think it will either be wonderful or terrible. I don't see this movie falling in between the two.

Whilst I disagree with the politics of most in hollywood, I am a big Jim Carrey Fan... Actually, the truth is I"m a big "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" fan, and he just happens to be a great actor in that... He's really sucked in some of his movies, and his comedy style gets old really fast, but he's a good actor when he's able to get out of his Ace Ventura schtick...

As for this, I love Roald Dahl stuff and Harry Potter... The dark children's stories are usually great (and you can't deny, Dahl fans, that "Charlie" is a bit sadistic), but I haven't read any of these books. I just got the impression it was in that vein, so I'll likely see it. I guess this series is rather longrunning. This movie covers 3 of the 11 books.

That's too bad about the whole election thing, though it's respectable to vote and take a stand for what you believe in. I do not agree with John Carrey at all, mind you. I pretty much despise him. Go Bush! Still, I don't really judge an actor's talent and work on his political beliefs.

Oh yeah, I wanna see this movie! Jim Carrey is very funny, and the movie looks interesting, as many have said before me.

I saw the movie two days ago, and I thought it was pretty good. Jim Carrey was a good casting choice for Count Olaf, but the way he kept popping up and none of the adults believing it was him got old. I love the way they subtitled Sunny. And I couldn't decide about the "Happy Elf", I didn't know whether to be annoyed, laugh, or be scared of it. (if you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about) Now I'm rabbling. I could never be a movie critic.

I saw this movie and I can say with confidence that this movie is one of my favorite movies to come out this year.

Although I must say the happy elf bit scared the crap out of me.

Well, I just saw it, and I have to say, they did an amazing job jumping from book 1, to 2, to 3, then back to 1 again, and they made it pretty good all in all, I've seen Jim Carrey better, but I think he's great in this still.

I plan on seeing it, although I don't know much about it and I haven't even read the books.. some people I know said it's kinda like Harry Potter, and since I'm a big HP fan it sounds like it would be of interest..

I saw it and I thought it was a good movie. Didn't like Jim Carry in it though. He played the Count as Jim Carry not as the Count. The Count from the book was more evil then funny.

This was a really good movie, IMNSHO. I loved Sunny's subtitles. Mr Snicket certainly has a unique way of writing, an dI love the books... though I only have one...

From what I'm reading, it was Snicket himself (Snicket is obviously a nom de plume) who wrote the screenplay -- at least the first draft, anyway. See if you can figure out his real name. ^^

I saw it last night and it was so good! I really liked the kids and the thing that they stuck together so well as a family was great. Olaf was the role Carrey was made for. He did such an excellent job!
I know this is a book, but is it a series? If it is does anyone know when the next one comes out? ^^
I loved Sunny's subtitles too! I liked the ones like "Someone's brain has been removed" and "She has been to crazy town.... shes the mayor of crazy town!" LOL

Ah yes.. I saw it... My brother wanted to see it since he loves the books. I'm a fan of Jim Carrey, and went with him.

The movie was pretty good.. I don't really think it was a kid's movie, though.. Kind of.. morbid? XD;;; *o*/ I loved the ending credits!!! @_@ So awesome.. I'm going to buy the DVD when it comes out just for the credits.. XD;;;;

I don't like how it looks from the commercials. It seems to have this spiritually dark, almost Harry Potter-ish feeling to it. >_<

Local article interview with the author lists 13 as the goal for the number of books, but no telling if that's where it'll end.
