American Idol 2005 - the best so far

TV, Movies, Sports...you can find it all in here.

Postby meboeck » Fri Mar 25, 2005 10:45 pm

How have I i not seen this thread yet? Anyway, I love American Idol. Last year Fantasia was one of my favorites. But my very favorite was Jennifer Hudson. This year, My favorites are Bo Bice, Nadia Turner, and Carrie Underwood. I didn't think Nadia did as well as she could have this week and I hope she is stronger next week. I am so glad Mikayla is gone. As soon as she stopped doing upbeat songs she stopped being fun. That was a lot of random bouncing around. I'll add one last comment. I don't always agree with Simon but I think he's awesome, and he is usually right. I get so mad at Paula when she cuts him off. And that's just about all my opinions on American Idol.

Hey Meboeck, nice to see you join us American Idol fans. ^_______^

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Sorry to all you Constantine fans, but...he freaks me out. That thing he does with his jacket when he sings...when he yanks it back, y'know? o_O So I've started to call him Greek Freak. 'Cause that's what he is. :P

Every time I see him, I can't help but imagine him singing "I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt"......it's the perfect song for him! He should sing it. Or at least, when (if??) he gets booted. Everyone thinks he's so "hot" and "smoldering" (Simon said smoldering) and "gorgeous". I don't get it...I don't really think he's cute at all. But maybe that's just because he drives me crazy!! :headbang:

Ooo, maybe another Christian will win this season...so far they've all been Christians...and I especially want...him...to...win...yeah... ...he reminds me of a great big lion.

So...

Go Bo Go Bo Go Bo waaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiii! *runs*

I personally believe she was trying to sing older than she was. You notice how she opened her mouth wider her last few songs? It's a technique that's supposed to make your voice sound more mature. The thing is, she didn't have the talent to back a grown-up voice, so she missed a zillion notes and was off key. I'm very glad she's gone.

Truer words were never spoken. And the thing is- American knows it. It was pretty tacky for Simon to point it out, but it is true: American listens to him. A surprisingly smart move for America, because he's the only one with sense. I'm really starting to get annoyed with Paula- she is seriously getting upset everytime Simon gives a bad review. Last episode sounded like she was in tears the second half of the show- I mean, come on, Paula, toughen up!

Anyway, my dear true_noir_chloe, I can happily say that I am not married and may make many wonderful plans concerning my darling Bo. Nyeah Nyeah Nyeah.

 You win! ^_____^ I'm not much of a fighter.

Anyway, about this weeks show. :shady: Man, only deaf people voted this week. How sad.

Hey, how many of you noticed Paula at her inebriated best? My goodness, I'm surprised she didn't fall off her chair. It's a good thing Randy and Simon kept trying to hold her up. She was slurring her words and her eyes kept doing those fluttery things eyes do when you're totally snockered. Dang, someone needs to tell her to get drunk after the show, not before.

This week, I missed Bo's song. :( I was so bummed about that.

Constantine has surpassed my irritation quota. If he smirks once more at the camera, I'm gonna be sick. He's not sexy, and he needs to get over himself. :shady:

This week surprised me because I didn't agree with Simon for the first time. He told Nikko that he was very good - *gag* - and that Constantine was better than... BO?! O_O Oh my goodness, he's gone deaf too. I think he was distracted by Paula's drunken stupor - he was stuporfied.

The 3 worst performances were all male, so I was surprised O_O when two girls were in the bottom two. Too many fangirls voting. (-__- )\;;

The 3 worst performances were Scott, Anthony and Anwar. Let's face it, Randy was actually right for once when he said that Anwar pays no attention to the first half of his songs, and then tries to win over the audience with a big close. Scott was off tune for the first half of his song. And then Anthony, well he's the weakest link.

In order of best to worst from this week:

1. Vonzell
2. Carrie
3. Bo - I'm giving it to him even though I didn't hear him, just because :eyebrow:
4. Jessica - she didn't not deserve to get booted off simply because she's unlikable or a little overweight:shake:
5. Nadia

I'm tossed with these last ones, they've all gotta go:

6. Constantine
7. Nikko
8. Scott
9. Anthony
10. Anwar

Now, it's unfortunate that Jessica left the show, because there goes a promised good vocal performance every single show. Now, she wouldn't have won the competition, but it will sorely be lacking her talent for the next few shows she should have been there to entertain us.

Anyway, I hope she is able to get a recording contract, since she was one of the top five vocalists in this competition.

Man, only deaf people voted this week. How sad.

HEY!!! *glares evily*

Twice during this show Simon said EXACTLY what i've been thinking. The first time was with Jessica. Ever since the semi-finals I've been of the opinion that she just doesn't stand out enough. I could barely remember who she was before she got into the top 12, regardless of her performances. I'm glad she's gone, although this week I might have preferred to see Anwar go. I don't think she got kicked out because of looks. If everyone were voting based on looks Scott would probably be out already and Constantine would be the most likely person to win. The second time Simon said what I was thinking was with Anwar. I really didn't like his song this week. Is it just me or does he look and talk (when he's not singing) like a male Woopi Goldberg? That's not an insult, its just weird. Pf course simon had to ruin it for me with his comments on some people later on. Why does he tell someone their song was "ecruciating in parts" when he really means "the whole thing was bad" why doesn't he just say he hated the whole thing?? And is it just me or did he use that EXACT same insult on someone else in a previous season. It sounded so familier. I think the best performance was Carrie's. She's become my favorite girl singer. Nadia always looks good no matter what she is singing. she is definitly my second favorite girl.

Please explain it to me. WHAT has happened? WHY did everyone turn against Anthony-sama all of a sudden. Its weird, because I, my mom, and my friends all figured that he was a contender to win, because A) as my female friends said "he's the hottest thing ever" and B) his story of having that throat operation makes him likeable, or something. My mom predicted that he'd be the next "Tween Idol". I don't really get it and it's not just a phenomenon of this message board, the polls i've been seeing for the last two weeks have consistantly ranked him as most likely to be kicked off next. I havn't noticed any particular drop in talent since he did that AWESOME version of "I want to know what love is" and Randy and Paula have given him mostly good reviews. This week was also Simon's first really bad review of him, up until now it seems he only commented on the style of song Anthony picked (like in the semi-finals when he had a latin song) or his "sexy routine" like in top 11. I can only think of two explanations. Either A) Constantine stole all of Anthony's potential fanbase with his "Smoldering Idol" act, or B) the rabid Clay Aiken people (the most likely people to be his fanbase) are all ready to burn him at the stake for DARING to even think of being compared to the great Clay Aiken. Considering how a lot of Clay fans are, I don't think possibility two is all that far-fetched ^^. I still like him, and i thought his performance was the second best of the night, after Carrie. My Mom likes him too.

*waves around a home-made sign attached to a stake that reads "ganbatte Scott-sama* I just joined a Scott group on yahoo this last week. I voted for him 12 times this week. I think that should tell you all you need to know. *impales Simon through the heart with the stake from the sign* ^_^.

id anyone else notice that last week in the top 11 eliminations Ryan took Simon's comment to Scott COMPLETLY out of context? You know how Ryan goes through each contestant and recaps what the judges said about them? Last week Ryan's "recap" of Simon's comment on Scott's song was "Simon said "Thank goodness it was only a minute"". (something like that). However, Simon's full comment was "thank goodness it was only a minute song or we would have had a full striptease". It wasn't a comment about the song itself, it was a comment on the fact that Scott was throwing his stuff around the stage as the song went on. Stupid Ryan ><.

I also did not think Jessica should have left. She does have an amazing voice. In fact, even though Anwar and Nadia haven't been doing their best lately, they're better than Constantine, Scott, and *deathglare* Anthony.

However I disagree with Chloe on Nikko. I think he's a pretty good singer. But he's not my favorite, so I don't care too much either way. But Anthony. I am so sick of listening to him. And I am SO tired of the blind, tonedeaf fangirls clogging up the phonelines when I am trying to vote. >.<

My brother said this HILARIOUS thing about Constantine's smoldering eye contact with the camera. He says that Seacrest is wrong (not surprising) when he says that Constantine's fanbase is a bunch of teenage girls. Constantine's real fanbase is Camera Man #6.

I laughed so hard when I heard my brother say this, cause its so true! Constantine always has his eyes on the camera, and it's always zooming in on his face! But maybe Camera Man #6 is getting as creeped out as I am after a while, cause after a few seconds of zooming in the camera backs away REALLY fast. I don't know. I just thought that was funny.

I haven't even seen a whole performance yet, but I just had to get on for a second and say "YES!! MUSICALS!!"

I'm am so excited. I was actually jumping up and down saying "It's what I always wanted!!"

Let's see if the contestants can live upto the songs.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

SOMETHING HAPPENED TO MY CABLE AND I MISSED NADIA! :o I am very sad now. :( Actually, the whole performance made me sad. I love musicals, but most people picked bad songs.

Scott: Mediocre(sp?) as usual; totally wrong song

Constantine: He's just wierd, and another horrible song choice

Carrie: Great vocals, wrong song

Anthony: I hope he goes away; wrong song, baaaaaaaaad performance

Vonzelle: Good vocals, okay song choice

Nikko: Good song, great performance

Anwar: Okay song choice, very good performance

Bo: YAY! Finally an up tempo song! Besides, how could Bo go wrong?

Nadia: Good start, but my cable died on me for about a minute. I hope she did welll.

Best to Worst:

1) Bo
2) Nikko

These three are up for grabs
3) Nadia (I hope)
4) Anwar
5) Carrie

6) Vonzelle
7) Constantine
8) Scott
9) Anthony *waves goodbye*

So overall, really disappointing week. It had a lot of promise, and they killed it. :(

I've decided that this season's American Idol has some new staple statements which the judges use each show. These are phrases the judges seem to say each and every show. Listen next time... yeah... you'll see what I'm saying.

AI Judge Phraseology <--is that a word?:

Randy: Whoa dude, that is the... ABSOLUTE BEST... performance you have done so far in this competition. The BEST man!

Paula: *while slurring* I loved you. You're just YOU. You're so beautiful. You really are. You're just... YOU... :sniffle:
Only to males: Oh man, I'm desperate - want to go out with me?

Simon: Has been overwhelmed by Paula's drunken persona and continual cutting into his comments. He's staying short and sweet these days and barely able to comment. I'm half-expecting him to walk off the show. He'll of course, take Carrie with him. XDDD

My picks for best and worst are next. XDDD;;;

I agree with you Meboeck, the song choices could have been so much better with what they had available. I mean, SHOW TUNES!!! I'm with Osaka, I was very excited with the theme tonight, but it was a let-down.

Anyways, these are my choices, with unwanted opinions, as always :P :

1. Carrie - WOW O_O, she had the absolute spot-on vocals of the night. There was not one missed note and no pitchiness. She made me feel as though I was watching her perform the song back in the late 60's. She truly captured the song.

2. Nadia - You missed her, Meboeck, and she was great. The judges seemed to miss her performance, as well and barely gave her the compliments due her. I give her a BRAVO! She pulled off a beautiful song, beautifully.

3. Vonzell - She's no Barbara Streisand, but her version of "People" was not too bad. It was a very good performance, but not a "blow me away" performance.

4. Bo - Only because he's Bo. I'd say it was my least favorite performance of his, but darn, he will always get my vote because he's REAL, unlike another rock poser - yeah, you know who you are... begins with letter "C" XDDD

5. Anwar - He did the best male vocal of the night. He finally sang the ENTIRE song, and not just the end of the song. I think he listened to Randy and Simon last week.

6. Constantine - He only beat out Nikko on my list because he sang one of my favorite songs "My Funny Valentine." However, he loses major points for totally destroying my favorite song and will forever live in shame for this abusive act. Shame on you, Constant-teen! LOL Oh yes, and Simon gave him a 7 for vocals, I gave him a 61/2.

7. Nikko - I agreed with Simon. Nikko was off tune the first half of his song. I mean, he continually falls flat at the end of his notes - CAN NO ONE HEAR? Paula is too drunk to hear it (that and he's male) and Randy is too sold on him being a fellow "dawg."

8. Scott - He didn't get worst performance of the night only because I like him more than Anthony. He, however, did sing as badly.

9. Anthony - He's OUTTA" HERE! Simon says, "Hideous!" So true. I am almost positive he mumbled the first half of his song. Let's hope all the people voting for him because he's a "nice boy" lost their phones.

Unfortunately, this is how tomorrow night will play out. The bottom three will all be females, or the better male singers. Bo may even make it in the bottom three tomorrow night.:shake:

my order:
1. Carrie
2. Vonzel
3. Nadia
4. Anthony (hides under the bed to avoid the other forum people)
5. Bo
6. Scott
7. Constantine
8. Anwar
9. Nikko

I feel the same way about Nikko that I felt about Jessice. Plus, I can't help thinking that, if things had gone the way they should have, he wouldn't even be there. He's Mario's understudy, he didn't really earn his way into the top 12. It kind of makes him less enjoyable, for me. I liked the theme, but people needed to pick more up-beat songs.

Okay, Anthony's act like a drunken DISCO BALL!! The whole time we was singing I had this mental image of his poor little disco ball stumbling around on its two stubby little feet and then falling over and crashing into a million pieces. It. was. terrible.

If he doesn't go home this week, I'm burning down Fox headquarters.

About the show overall: Can we say "DISAPPOINTING!!" When all of them were saying "I hadn't ever heard any of these songs" or "None of us had ever watched any musicals," I was like: :wow!: AND YOU GUYS CALL YOURSELVES PERFORMERS!!

They were all choosing the lamest songs. There were all those incredible songs to choose from, and people (who shall remain unnamed, although his name does begin with a B and end with an O) were just picking random songs with their eyes closed!? What's the world coming to!!

Well, with that off my chest, here are my ranks:

1) Carrie-- Props to the girl for choosing a Rodgers and Hammerstein song. Not their best song, but still a respectable number. (Maybe it's just me, but I was stunned that she didn't choose a song from "Oklahoma!)"
2) Vonzel-- The sister sounded good this week. Again, there are a million songs I would have chosen instead of this one, but it was a pretty good song anyways.
3) Nadia-- She was good. Miles better than certain other said disco ball murderers.
4) Constantine-- He's probably not the best voice in this thing, but he did do pretty well last night. Even if he was just dying to burst into a refrain of "I'm too sexy."
PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE A TIE FOR NUMBER FIVE:
5) Anwar-- the man sounded good last night. Even if he didn't do anything that really broke him out of his shell.
5)Bo-- Yeah, he looses about a thousand brownie points for not hand picking a song. Bad Bo. But beyond that, he sounded pretty good. The song was a little boring and all (And Paula comment about him crossing his legs was somewhat disturbing. . . ), but it wasn't really that bad.
6) Nikko-- there was this one note at the beginning that made my ear star bleeding, but once I got the blood under control-- he sounded okay.
7) Scott-- Lame. With a capital L. Honestly, he hasn't really realized that this isn't, "Let's all cry 'cause Scott has had a tough life Idol." Man, move on. And watch some musical!
8) Anthony-- I shall not repeate said "disco ball" comments, because disco balls have right, too. What I will add, though, to my former comments is that I think if Anthony had sung this song instead of the Nun in the sound of music, I think that Julie Andrews would have gone out and hung herself.

Get your torches ready Mangafanatic ^_^.

YAY! Scott was safe. I was worried that certain factors external to the competition might count against him, and they probably did, but he survived. I think the whole speech he gave to Ryan was really talking about that stuff, rather than his performance. I was surprised that Vonzell was in the bottom three though. I think she was one of the best last night. I liked her song choice better than Carrie's (People is a nice song) although Carrie sang her song better.

a paraphrased earlier quote I wrote before the results show wrote:
Unfortunately, many of the hearing impaired will vote and rather than the worst vocalists, which were all males, i.e., Anthony, Scott, Constantine and Nikko in the bottom, there will be a female and possibly even Bo.
Fortunately, Bo was not in the bottom three, :forehead: schwoo! However, one of the top 3 singers of the night, Vonzell, was. Let us hope next week people will vote for the best vocalists - not the ones they feel sorry for.

I was. And coming from me, that's saying something. I used to hate her- but ever since she made top twelve she's been getting better and better, so now I like her a bit. I have no idea why she was in the bottom three- the judges even agreed that she didn't deserve to be there. Rocketshipper's right, it is all one big popularity contest.
