Hands down the best Sci-Fi movies ever made in my book are:

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
2001: A Space Odessey (I play the theme to 2001 in my car on an almost daily basis! )
Joshua: Hebrew -The LORD is Salvation

I respect 2001 as a daring and complex sci-fi movie and I admire its slow pace. However for some reason this movie just 'does not work' for me. :)

Yeah, 2001 is a great movie, however it does slightly echo of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" in that it's mostly classical music and no dialogue. I read somewhere that the movie only has about 45 minutes worth of dialogue and the rest is covered with classical music.

I often use it as a sleep inducer. Works wonders!

Yeah, that first Star Trek was terrible, but Star Trek Generations? Nemesis? They aren't bad. I feel ashamed claiming to be a trekkie and I've never seen Insurrection yet.

Generations was so-so...I would watch it again if I didn't have anything else to watch. But Nemesis really wasn't as good as they tried to hype it up to be.

Don't worry about not seeing Insurrection--you didn't/won't miss much. It was really soft, had some funny momemts, but nothing to cry over missing.
