J-Dramas

Postby TrigunX89 » Fri Mar 17, 2006 1:42 am

Does anybody here watch J-dramas? (like, tv series...) I've started watching some, but I'm new to the whole thing. Any recommendations? Nothing that would seriously hurt my manhood or anything, please.

Hmmmmm. Dramas huh?

But, saying that you don't want to "hurt your manhood", that'd be pretty hard to find one you'd like (That I know of)! Since many of the the ones I've seen are based on romance. :P

BUT! Luckily I have this AWESOME site that totally will be your guide finding dramas that you'll like!! ^_^ (Thanks to my mom)

http://www.jdorama.com/

I have no idea if you speak Japanese or are learning it or anything, but, in Japanese there is no "DRA" so they say "DORA" hence the "J-Dorama". lol.
I think I've seen....about 10 dramas all the way through. I forgot some of them o.O but if my mom lists them, I can totally remember them! lol! Anyway!

Thanks! Yeah, I've been to that site and looked around. I think I'm the only white guy who watches these... Anyway, I've just started watching GTO, and before that I watched Stand Up!! I am trying to learn Japanese, and I find them interesting, as well as entertaining. ^_^;;

So out of curiosity, do you have any favorites?

Well, you would hope so after watching 10 of them! lol! XD
My favorite drama of all time, has to be "Virgin Road".
For a family one, "Hotman" is pretty good. Overall, it's my family and I that watch them, so we like (Especially me) family oriented dramas.
Also, a very very enteraining drama, that is actually not that romantic, and very family oriented, and REALLY funny, is "Son in law" or "Mukudomo". I beleive that actor who plays in "Hotman", is the same guy in "Mukudomo".

But anyway. Yeah, check the site out a little more. If you'd like me to give you the list of all the dramas I've seen, or have heard of so you can look them up and see what they're about. I'd be more then happy to help!! ^_^

Also. I'm learnin Japanese too. And watching dramas and animes is greatly recommened in helping you with the language! ^_^ I'm half Japanese, half white. So like, it's awsome to hear when a white guy, especially at like, 17 years old, is interested in watching J-dramas!! :D

I watched gokusen awhile ago and liked it, although it was rather over the top. I also watched GTO and now wished I hadn't.. It was rather trashy <.<

But I want to check out some of those series you mentioned Rose! Is Hotman also a manga? Because I saw someone scanlating it on some scanlation site. I wonder if its the same...

Thanks! I thought I was just weird, or crazy or something. :)

Also, thanks for the recommendations! I will look into them. I forgot to mention that I [accidentally] watched the first episode of Ganbatte Ikimasshoi. I thought it was something different, but it looks promising anyway.

Is GTO really bad? I've only seen the first ep... It's the #1 show on jdorama...

I am currently watching GTO (the live-action version), it's OK, I find that the actors tend to overact quite a bit :) Apparently the last episode was one of the most-watched in Japanese TV history. Did you know that the actors that played Onizuka and Fuyutsuki are married in real life?

I watch The Iron Chef on TV, but it's mostly dubbed, except for Chairman Kaga. My family and I love it :)

it gets pretty raunchy. I deleted all my eps and I somewhat do wish I hadn't watched it. Sure, he's a virgin but he has all this porn and there's pictures of half-naked women/men scattered throughout the show. Lots of sex jokes, if I recall correctly. Just the images that they did have in the show stuck in my head for awhile and I'm glad they're mostly gone now.

If you've ever heard of Gokusen, its an anime/manga/dorama that is alot like GTO, but I actually prefer better. There's a woman named Kumiko Yamaguchi who is the granddaughter of a Yakuza group (like the Mafia I suppose) and she decides to be a teacher. She's assigned to the worst class and struggles to get their acceptance and help solve their problems. On the outside its alot like GTO, but imo its alot better. There's MUCH less sex jokes, the romance is more clean, and Yankumi (her nickname) focuses on solving the problem instead of destroying it. The drama is a little... dramatic in parts. I personally prefer the manga, but both are very good.

Now you mention it, there is a bit of that. Not over the top, but it's there (what i've seen sofar anyhow), I guess it fits with his character being an ex-gang member.

I will have to look out for Gokusen, once my dowload limit resets next month :)

Oopsie! I mean "MukudoNo" lol, "N", not an "M". Anyway. You're so not alone Trigun, with the whole Japanese and all. I told my mom that I recommended Mukudono, and she said you would really like that. It's really really funny! I laugh every single time think of it! XD

And Tee! If you want a list of some awsome dramas, send me a PM. I have a list of good ones! ^_-
