Mulan

Postby Lady Arianrod » Wed Jan 19, 2005 5:03 pm

I enjoyed the movie Mulan when it first came out... and I still love it to this day. It was quite well-done... The adventurous plot and character motives were all fresh and original.

I bought the DVD just for nostalgia... but this movie has a lot of replay value. I still enjoy it even if it's supposed to be a children's film,

Does anyone else like Mulan? Just wondering ;)

It's my second favourite Disney cartoon! My first is Lion King. I love how Mulan is a movie with a different culture, fighting style, drawing style from all other Disney's. My favourite scene is probably the avalanche or the Hun Leader on the Palace roof and Mulan fights him off with a fan. Awesome!

I love Mulan! So what if it's not at all historically accurate, I love it all the same! Cool animation style, fun characters, and good music. ^__^

I got the Special Edition DVD and watched it in Madarian Chinese out of boredom. Wow, the Chinese Mulan has a nice singing voice. ^^
Think happy thoughts.

I liked Mulan a lot too. Although the bride song and the "I'll make a man out of you" both got stuck in my head REALLLY easily.

I saw today, ironically enough, they are making one of those direct-to-dvd Mulan II. Ugh, I don't even want to imagine what it'll be like.

I enjoyed Mulan as well - I own it on DVD and the 2nd disc has a reading of the original poem (in English) which amazed at how good it is. I don't know however if the poem on the DVD was abridged in any way, though. The only thing I disliked about Mulan were the songs which did not fit entirely even though they were occasionally well written.

O.o I collect the Disney pins for this series...
so yeah I liked it.

And Jazz... I know what scene you're referring to actually. XD

The soundtrack is nice too... the orchestral part specifically, and true to your heart is pretty good.

Mulan and Beaty and the Beast. My favorite Disney movies ever!

I love Moo-shoe (Beat me for the misspelling, if you must. ;) ) is so hillarious!
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

OH, I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I bought the DVD a few weeks back - for me, not the kids. XDXD I also had plans to have my favorite Disney DVD's for my grandkids.

Hey, Osaka, Beauty and the Beast and Mulan are my two favorite Disney movies, also. You know what they say about great minds.... ?

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

The Special Edition has the movie in Mandarin!? I might have to buy (or at least rent) that just to hear it.

I liked it. Very impressive animation, good characters, and plenty of humor and drama. My personal rating would be about ***2/3 of *****. Not near Lion King's greatness IMO, but one of the best Disney films I've ever seen.

Just be happy that they didn't translate the names. Mulan is awsome. Though I don't like showtunes, I liked these.

My only fit with this movie is hardly anyone sounded Chinese. I don't have any Chinese blood and I swear I sound more Chinese than Mulan. Her actress didn't even try. The only character I can think of who sounded believable was Mulan's dad. Personally, I would like to see a Chinese dub of it (subbed of course). I'll bet it's alot better.

Are there other language options on the DVD? I'd like to watch it in Chinese. ^__^

This movie is amazing... It is about a girl that isn't a princess or a mermaid or a perfectly beautiful blonde Barbie (sleeping beauty... ugh). She's just a person, and an honorable one at that. Her attempts to save her family's name and defend her country are unique to Disney's storytelling.

I would like to hear the original poem, so I'm off to watch the second DVD! :)

Yeah, Donny Osmond's big comeback. That and his appearance on Johnny Bravo.

The kids and I all like Mulan and usually catch it whenever it's on the Disney Channel. I found a discription for Mulan 2:

"The spirited Mulan gets the thrill of her life when General Shang asks for her hand in marriage, but the surprises are just beginning. Throwing a wrench into their plans is the mischievous Mushu, who tries to keep the happy couple apart as long as possible in order to retain his job as her guardian dragon. Adding to their adventure is the fact that Mulan and Shang must escort three princesses across China to their own arranged marriages. When she discovers that these three women aren't looking forward to their upcoming weddings, Mulan makes a bold decision that will change the course of history."

Doesn't really sound like it's going to live up to the original.

This is an extremely late reply, but I watched it! It was a very cool look at the original legend. :)

Okay, so I'm late posting this.... But Mulan is so awesome!! It's my third favorite Disney movie (after Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King); I got the special edition of it last Christmas ^^ My friend who knew I was getting it looked a little weird at me when she found out,but that's ok-I still love it to death :)
I didn't know until reading these posts on Mulan that I could listen to it in Chinese on my special edition dvd.... That's something to look forward to ^_^

I have not yet watched Mulan in Chinese but I have watched the extra DVD (that happens to include an interesting segment on the translation of various Disney movies).

Is it available in Japanese? I'd hope so, but it probably isn't. :(
