I encountered the mysterious box of nothingness.
It... wont go away....
It haunts me.

9 minutes earlier...

Have you tried scanning again, Bethany ^___^? is the box still there o.o? What's the scanning process exactly ^__^?

The box is gone because i restarted the computor. But when i tried again, it happened again. I just won't try on that computor I guess. But I can't scan anything in for a while then. So sad. BTW, We have HP solution center.

If I understand this correctly, you were trying to scan a picture and this black box appeared on your screen?
And you say you used HP solution center to scan in your picture? I haven't had any experience with the program.
But several things you can look into are, one, is this the first time you are trying to use the scanner or have you used it in the past and it was successful (aka: no weird box)? If yes, check to see what changes have been made to the computer since you last used the scanner, that may have something to do with it not working.
And two, are you running any other applications when you are trying to scan? Sometimes computers will be picky about running a scanner and other programs at the same time and freeze up stuff (at least my compy is XD). Also, if the program came with a FAQ file or a troubleshooting pdf, that might warrant a look through to see if the issue is addressed in there.

To me, it sounds like you have a splash screen or some other kind of frame-based applet that has stopped responding. Try opening the task manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and browsing through the Processes tab for anything that looks like it might be used for your scanning program, or just anything that looks like it's using an above-average amount of resources that you don't recognize. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you know a little about the system processes, tho. You can cause trouble if you close the wrong thing. XD
