I have a problem that has been occurring more and more as time passes. More and more of my professors are posting reading assignments/other things on Blackboard and in email attachments in docx format. Which Office 2003 and Microsoft Works cannot open.
Does anyone have any tips? I have a reading assignment for class tomorrow and I can't open the darn file!:mutter:

That's the newer format, spit out by default from word 2007. Try this:

HIH!

Sweet. 64 seconds from OP to reply - less than 30 min to resolution. Now THAT'S service.

;)

Hehe.. XD

For the record, I've had a few things put up in docx format by lecturers too, and despite having Word 2007 to open it, I think it's a very bad practice to do! What happened to PDF? On the odd occasion that it needs to be edited, make it DOC (2003/XP)...

Insomniac sent me their internship test in docx... You'd think a company that worked for Sony wouldn't cater to only those who keep updated with the latest Microsoft stuff, but instead may use something more people can read, like word 2000 .doc

I use OpenOffice.org 2.0... I should check to see if they've updated Writer so it'll open word 2007 files... Apparently, 3.0 is in beta, but only in French. Ah, well... I'll have to wait either for the English beta or the public release so I can open all the new MS stuff... I hope openoffice doesn't change its format to fit MS Office... I honestly prefer OpenOffice and use it over MS office whenever possible.

Completely off topic, but I'm a bit disconcerted with Microsoft's attatchment to the letter x as their brand identity. Xbox. XNA. DirectX. Docx. pptx. Probably not a discussion for here, though. The lowercase i is pretty annoying, too, but it's not just Apple that does that, anymore...

A lot of my friends on campus have been having the same issue.

Lame move on Microsoft's part. They should have made it compatible to begin with, I think.

Lucky for me though, cause Pages opens them. =)
