Still having Task Manager problems...

Postby Sheenar » Mon May 12, 2008 7:10 pm

This has been going on for quite a while...
Everytime I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to open the Task Manager, I get this little popup that says "Task Manager has been disabled by the administrator".
I thought I was the administrator (it's my computer--I opened the box (that it came in from the store) and set it up myself.)
Any ideas how I can fix it? It's annoying.

For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Have you tried logging into Safe Mode as an Admin?

There's a setting to disable the task manager. Download the file that I have attached (taskman.txt), change the .txt to .reg and then double-click the file. It should re-enable the task manager for you. Then log out and log back in, and it should work for you.

Note: please do not just dig around in the registry unless you really know what you are doing - you can break more than just your task manager.

Also note: if the setting was changed by some piece of malware that has not been removed, it will probably change right back to block the task manager. If this happens, get rid of the malware and try this again.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

How do I log out and back in? I have no idea what my password would be --when I restart my computer, it goes straight back to my desktop after it boots --I don't have to log in. Should I just restart the computer after I try your file?

Yeah, a reboot should do it too.
